I am sure everyone who attended Monday’s assembly would agree that we have a fancy looking vehicle and will be looking the part in our team shirts. With Mr Friebe as “The Boss’ and Mrs Snooks as “The Coach” I am sure the team will be well lead and cared for. I would also like to thank the numerous parents that have assisted the program and also will be attending the event. I am sure there will be much to report back on in next week’s newsletter. Go KPS! I would like to wish one highly respected and long standing staff member a happy 60th Birthday. Mrs Jones celebrated this special milestone on Saturday with her family and friends and again here with the staff at the school. Thanks Kerrie and Betty for organising the cake. It was beautiful! Position Vacant - School Gardener Can anyone who is interested or knows of someone that would like to be the school gardener to please contact the school. Keeping in mind that this position is largely a part time, out of school hours position. Reminders Repeats Could parents also note that if there are any parents who are contemplating a child repeating a year they MUST discuss such matters with their child’s class teacher. These matters are only carried out if there are very strong educational reasons for doing so. The HPV Team getting presented with their t-shirts (Continued on page 2) Principal’s Report cont. (Continued from page 1) Shekere Beats Incursion Student Placement 2014 On Monday the school was treated to a wonderful performance by Jonas called Shekere Beats. This incursion was all about beat and drumming styles, as well as dance and movement based around African Rhythms. Interspersed among some great music were stories about life in Ghana, as well as demonstrations of how songs are taught in African countries. All students were involved in singing and movement and individual students got up to either dance or play along with Jonas throughout the performance. I had a blast and learnt loads of new techniques as well as enjoying a great session of music and movement. Many thanks to Jonas for bringing Shekere Beats to KPS! At this time of the year we are heavily involved in planning for next year and making decisions about our class structure and placement of teachers. Although we have not yet formally determined our class structure or, which teachers will be in which classes, we do however at this time of year invite written requests from parents regarding class placement. Any such requests need to be made on sound educational, social or emotional issues and must be in writing. It is not appropriate to make requests for individual teachers, particularly as teachers have not yet been assigned to classes. There are many factors to consider and it is usually not possible to accommodate all requests. Be assured, however that each and every factor in the decision as to where a child is placed next year is given our utmost attention and teachers take great care in making these decisions. Any requests for class placement are to be addressed to the Principal and marked ‘confidential’. The specific content of any such letters will be kept in the strictest confidence but the intent of the request obviously will need to be discussed when class lists are generated. Any parents who may have concerns about student placement for 2014 could also make an appointment to speak to either David Gray or myself. The opportunity for parent input for 2014 is only available for a brief period. All requests must be in by Friday November 22nd as there is a lot of time, effort and consideration put in by teachers to arrange appropriate class groups for the following year. Exact Numbers Enrolments and Planning for 2014 At present we are heavily involved in planning for next year and need to have accurate figures on how many students will be enrolled. Therefore we are asking any parents who know that they will be moving prior to the start of the 2014 school year to let us know so that we may base our planning on accurate figures. It is also important that if any parents who intend to enrol a new Prep student please do so as soon as possible as again we need to have accurate figures for our planning. Important Dates & Reminders: Grade 5/6 Boys Basketball State Finals – Thursday 28th November 11th December Volunteers Morning Tea 2014 Book Buying Day – Thursday 23rd January 2014 Curriculum Day (Staff only) – Tuesday 28th January 2014 Term 1 starts on Wednesday 29th January Nathan Pirouet Principal Parents and Friends You know it’s getting close to the end of term when your second last meeting of the year centres on Christmas raffles and Christmas trees! This week your children will be bringing home a very important P and F notice, which contains information about our two remaining fundraisers for the year. In past years these have been stapled to the newsletter, but now that most people read it online, we will need you to specifically check your child’s bag for this notice. The first item concerns our Christmas Tree fundraiser. For new parents, each year we sell beautifully shaped, fresh Christmas trees at $35 each. This is becoming an increasingly popular way for KPS parents to start off the Christmas season, with families turning up on the Saturday morning with their kids, to take their tree home for decoration. This year, tree collection is on Saturday the 7th of December, from 10 am – 11 am, outside the admin block here at the school. As always, a BIG thank you to the Hughes family from Korumburra Garden Supplies, who collects the trees for us every year and has them ready for pick‑up on the Saturday morning. If you would like to support KPS by purchasing one of these fabulous trees, just fill out the form that will come home in your child’s bag, and return to school, with your payment, by next Friday, the 29th of November. K.P.S a UNITED Community School WELL DONE AWARDS Nick Fowles Liam Thomas Joshua Clinton Breanna deBondt Jacquline Turton Samuel Brown We are also holding our very popular Christmas raffle, which is drawn on the last Monday of the term – the 16th of December. Raffle tickets will be attached to this special notice in your child’s bag. They are $1 each or 3 for $2.
