Greetings Masters and Instructors,
I hope you all well and peace. I am very excited to inform you that the Kukkiwon cup is coming
to Eastern United States. I am especially excited for the upcoming event as it will mark the first
time I have had the opportunity to host the prestigious Kukkiwon Cup.
This year the cup will be hosted on Saturday, May 30, in Greenville, North Carolina. As you
know, the Kukkiwon Cup is a tournament that attracts and is open for all Tae Kwon Do students, from the white belt to high-ranking black belt, young and old alike. In addition, it is very
rare to find a tournament that both welcome and encourage beginner students and high level
practitioners of both sparring and forms. It is my sincere hope that both, you and your students
will be able to attend this year’s cup as we are hoping and working to make it one of the best
years in memory.
As excited as I am for this year’s cup, I know that I cannot do it without your help. In order to
live up to the greatness and title that are the Kukkiwon Cup, we will need the support of many
of the region's premiere Tae Kwon Do schools, yours included. I humbly request that you encourage your students of all ranks and skill levels to attend this year’s event, and if you have
any black belts capable of refereeing and judging who would like to volunteer their time, we
would love to have their assistance. On behalf of myself and the entire King Tiger organization,
I thank you, and look forward to celebrating and competing together as a Tae Kwon Do family
at this year’s Kukkiwon Cup.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Qualifications
Taekwondo practitioners ages 5 and up, all ranks including White Belt, who have
trained and understand the Kukkiwon Taekwondo competition rules.

POOMSAE COMPETITORS MUST PERFORM ONLY THE POOMSAE DESIGNATED FOR THEIR SPECIFIC RANK AND
COMPETITORS WILL CHOOSE ONE FORM. Scores will be based on: Proper order, beauty, grace, rhythm, accuracy, power, technique and attitude. Authorized Poomsae are those approved by the World Taekwondo H.Q. Taeguek 1-8, Palgue 1-8 and black belt

Authorized Poomsae refers to the Poomsae standard formulated by KUKKIWON
* Contest time : more than 30 seconds, less than 90 seconds
* Attire : Approved Dobok (Taekwondo uniform), Black Belt: Black V-Neck uniform, Color Belt: White V-Neck.
* Members of contest: Individual, Pair-two people, Team-three people
* Divisions are by Age and Gender
1) Individual poomsae: Qualifying run consists of a group of two or more color belt competitors separated by age and gender for gold,
silver, & bronze medal.
2) Pair & Team Contest
*Color Belt: PAIR & TEAM may execute their poomsae regardless of the sequence of gender.
*Black Belt: PAIR- Is required to have the gender sequence of one male and one female. TEAM- Is required to execute their poomsae together and must have a mixed gender sequence of both the male and female sex.
**Black belt pair and team contests will be scored according to point system.

Demo team performance guideline

Demo Team Fee: $200 ( Minimum requirement in a group: 15 people)

Everyone involved in the demonstration will be considered a member regardless of how small or
large the role.

At least 75% of Demo Team Members must also be registered participants in the individual competition.

Your performance must be 7 – 8 minutes long, plus 1 minute of set-up time and 1 minute of cleanup time. The performance timer will automatically start after 1 minute of set-up time, so if your
team exceeds the set-up time limit, in addition to losing points, you will be using up your performance time.

The Demo Team competition will be judged by a panel of judges composed of representatives
from each competing team. Each team must send 1 representative to serve on the judges’ panel. It
is preferable that your representative is a Black Belt, but you are welcome to send someone with
no or little TKD experience as long as he/she understands the judging guidelines.

Demo Teams should be made up primarily of students. The number of participating Masters/
Interns must not exceed 25% of your Demo Team member count. (Remember that members are
anyone participating in the performance, including board holders, helpers, etc.) Any Master/Intern
performance CANNOT exceed 25% of your demonstration time.

Special breaking materials need to be pre-approved. If you plan to use special breaking materials
(concrete, fire, ice, or anything other than standard wood boards), you MUST get preapproval or
take a chance at disqualification or point deduction.

A music player will be provided with CD and digital options (such as iPod). It will be the responsibility of each team to test out the player ahead of time. Any technical difficulty that occurs during the performance is not the responsibility of the Championship host. The ONLY available
times to test the system are Friday, May 29, 7-9pm or Saturday, May 30, before 8:45am. We will
NOT allow you to play with the system after 9:15pm on Friday.


We will be holding a Meeting for Demo Team Captains at 10:30am on the day of the championship. Please send your demo team captain or a team representative to this meeting.
