GET ORGANIZED!
Does opening your bathroom cabinet result in an avalanche of dental floss and face creams?
Nothing will help streamline your get-gorgeous routine like having your gear in order. Here, tips
from organizing guru Laura Cattano, who tackles three tricky spots. BY LONI ALBERT

1. LIP GLASS Recycled candle
holders make pretty storage
cups. (We organized gloss, but
get creative—eyeliner, makeup
brushes, whatever!) Once a
candle is finished, put it in the
freezer overnight. The leftover
wax will pop right out, and you
can wash then reuse the glass.

2. FACE PLACE Edit your stash
of makeup and store everyday
staples in acrylic drawers (like
this Muji case, $17.25, muji
.com). Special-occasion makeup
gets its own place (see page 58).
3. MANI CUBE A sturdy gift box
keeps nail lacquers contained.

4. DISH IT OUT Repurpose shot
glasses and decorative plates
to hold rings and small earrings.
5. SCENT STAGE Show off
fragrances on a cake tray.
(You can even wrap cuffs and
bracelets around its base.)

Kitchen supplies
and a little
creativity create
order behind a
closed door.
1. BALM SHELTER How
many lip balms have you lost
in your lifetime? Stuff them
into a short vase or juice
glass, and always be kissable.

4. GET A LIFT Acrylic risers
(get them at The Container
Store, $4) create multiple
mini shelves. Ditto wooden
boxes—just turn them onto
their side (see lower right).
5. SMILE SAVER Like nail
stuff, dental gear is best kept
in a tall glass or tin—upright
and away from germ-laden
surfaces.

Bulky hair tools
and unsexy stuff
(tampons, TP)
can look cute.
Just add color!

1. HIS AND HERS Divvy up
your toiletries inside a bright,
two-drawer organizer (like
this Bigso Classic Stockholm
Paper Drawers, $25,
containerstore.com). Prop it
on a metal dish rack; levels
create more space.
1
2. ROLL WITH IT Place toilet
paper in a woven basket, and
slide it under the dish rack.
2. MAKE IT MAGNETIC
Remove the shelves of your
cabinet, hot-glue a sheet of
metal (available at hardware
stores) to the back, then use
magnetic spice tins (like
these from Bed, Bath &
Beyond, $3 each) to store
vitamins and elastics, so you
don’t take up shelf space.
3. NAIL IT Stash files, nail
brushes, and clippers in
a tall glass for a fumble-free,
last-minute mani.
no stress!
3. SECRET STASH Lose the
cardboard box, and stuff
monthly supplies into a cute
clutch or cosmetic bag.
4
4. POT LUCK Planters and
vases: perfect for hair
brushes and styling tubes.
5
5. TOOLBOX Keep hair
dryers and irons untangled
by storing them in sturdy
magazine files, cords down
(and secured with elastics).
2
6. STICK UP Adhesive utility
hooks ($3, containerstore
.com) create a place for
headbands and combs.

DON’T STOP THERE!
Bonus tips for the overachiever in you.
MAKE A BACKUP BAG Everyday makeup goes on
the vanity, but special-occasion stuff should get its own
bag (below, Sonia Kashuk Small Train Case in Geo, $15,
target.com) and drawer below your staples.
RACK UP YOUR TOWELS Roll them
up and slide them into the slots of a
wine rack (we used the Addition Wine
Rack, $89.95, crateandbarrel.com) to
free up space in your linen closet.
PLAY SPIN THE BOTTLE
Put XXL products (hand soap,
mouthwash, body butter) on a
lazy Susan under the sink.
DIVIDE AND CONQUER New
use for an over-the-door shoe
holder: fill pockets with hair sprays,
brushes, styling tools, and more.
STUFF A SICK-DAY KIT All
those random, space-sucking,
first-aid supplies? Toss them into
a plastic-lined cosmetic bag too.
COLLECT HAIR TIES Put them
onto a cute key chain and hang it
from a medicine cabinet magnet.
