 About Joanne DiMaggio
Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Joanne DiMaggio, MA, CHt
is a graduate of the University of Illinois with a B.A. in History. A
freelance writer with a background in marketing and public
relations, Joanne worked in the Chicago media market for many
years until moving to Charlottesville in 1995. During her long
career, she has had hundreds of articles published in newspapers
and magazines.
Joanne has been actively involved with Edgar Cayce’s Association for Research and Enlightenment
(A.R.E.) since 1987. In 1990, she became one of the founding members of the A.R.E. Heartland
Region. Headquartered in Chicago, the Region encompassed nine states with over 5,000 members. As
a member of the Region’s Executive Core Team during its formative years, she was responsible for its
public relations, newsletter, and special event programming.
In August 2008 she became the coordinator for the A.R.E. Charlottesville, Virginia area. Several
months later, she formed a partnership between A.R.E. and Unity of Charlottesville to co-sponsor
esoteric lectures and workshops centering on Edgar Cayce’s work. She went on to become a member
of Unity of Charlottesville in October 2010 and in April 2013 founded the Unity Holistic Healing
Center—making Unity of Charlottesville the only Unity Church in the country to have a holistic
healing center on its campus.
Joanne earned her Masters in Transpersonal Studies degree and her Spiritual Mentor certification
through Atlantic University in May 2010. Her culminating project (thesis) was on inspirational
writing and served as the basis of her book, Soul Writing: Conversing With Your Higher Self. In
September 2010, Joanne formed the first Atlantic University Alumni Association for which she was
named president in November 2010 and served in that role for two years. In April 2011 she was
honored at the 2011 Distance Education Training Council’s annual conference as Atlantic University’s
Outstanding Graduate of the year.
Joanne presents lectures and workshops on the subject of soul writing and past life exploration for
audiences across the country, including being the guest speaker at several A.R.E. conferences in
Virginia Beach and for A.R.E. audiences elsewhere in Virginia, in Chicago, Milwaukee and Bethesda,
MD; at the Rhine Institute in Durham, NC; and the Int’l Association for Near Death Studies 2013
Annual Conference in Washington, DC; for Unity Church of the Hills in Austin, Texas; and at the
Institute for Neuroscience and Consciousness Studies in Austin, Texas. In addition, she mentors
month-long eGroups on soul writing through the A.R.E. and Atlantic University and has been a guest
on numerous radio programs in the U.S. and the U.K.
Professionally, Joanne has been pursuing past-life research and therapy for over 25 years. In October
1991 she founded PLEXUS (Past Life Exploration, Understanding and Sharing) in Naperville, IL
and brought that organization to Charlottesville under the name Athanasy in 1995. During that time
she also acted as Study Group Chairman for the Association for Past-Life Research and Therapies,
later known as the International Association for Regression Research and Therapies, where she was a
member until it disbanded in 2014. She currently is a member of the National Association of

Transpersonal Hypnotherapists, and of IANDS, the International Association for Near-Death
Studies, Inc.
A graduate of the Eastern Institute of Hypnotherapy as a Certified Hypnotherapist, Joanne completed
additional training in hypnosis at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL and studied under Dr. Irene
Hickman, a pioneer in the field of non-directive hypnotherapy. The years she spent as the head of her
own past life research center enabled her to interact with leading past life therapists, authors and other
renowned practitioners from across the country. Today she continues to teach past-life related courses
and conducts private regression sessions in her Charlottesville office.
Using inspirational writing, Joanne produced a small line of greeting cards called Spirit Song. The
International Greeting Card Association cited one of those cards, What is Human is Immortal, for its
creative excellence, choosing it as one of six worldwide finalists in the “Sympathy” category for its
Annual LOUIE Awards.
Her first book, Charlottesville: A Contemporary Portrait was published in March 2002.
Soul Writing: Conversing With Your Higher Self, followed in August 2011 and its sequel, Your Soul
Remembers: Accessing Your Past Lives Through Soul Writing, was published in October 2013. She is
currently working on a third book, Karma Can Be a Real Pain, which traces the connection between
chronic conditions in this life to an event or attitude in a previous life.

What if you knew, really knew in every part of your being, that there is an answer to every question you have ever pondered and all you have to do is ask and the answer will be forthcoming? Soul Writing provides those answers through a written form of meditation. It is you entering a meditative state and then communicating with a higher power, asking and receiving written answers to whatever your soul yearns to know. This experiential workshop, based on Joanne DiMaggio’s book, Soul Writing: Conversing with Your Higher Self, includes: •
Learning to Plug In—an explanation of the concept of soul writing and the difference between it and automatic writing; how to establish a writing ritual; and the participants’ chance to experience the soul writing process. •
Tapping Into the Creative Forces—a discussion about the famous writers and composers who’ve used a similar inspirational process, followed by a second soul writing session. •
Applying Soul Writing To Your Life—an exploration of how soul writing can be used—

The full-­‐day workshop includes: • Communicating with Unseen Aspects of Oneself—a review of the basics from the Soul Writing course and a writing session, followed by a guided journey to the Akashic Records. • Past Lives and Present Karma—an overview of the basic philosophy of reincarnation as taught by Edgar Cayce; how soul writing can be used to explore past lives; exploration and understanding of physical karma. • How Past Life Relationships Impact Your Life Today—exploring the concept of karmic relationships, including soul mates and twin flames, this session includes a regression to find the origin of today’s relationship issues in previous lifetimes. • Conversation With Your Past Life Personality—participants will engage in an actual conversation with a past life aspect of yourself during an internal Q&A soul writing session. Other Inspirational Workshops for the Aspiring Soul Finding Soul’s Purpose Through Past Life Regression and Soul Writing This full-­‐day experiential workshop focuses on ways for participants to find their soul’s purpose using past life regression and soul writing. The workshop includes segments on why we require a purpose of being; meditation as a tool for both past life regression and soul writing; why reincarnation is an essential part of this search; two past life regressions—one to find the resources from a previous lifetime and the other to find the limiting imprint from a previous lifetime. The afternoon session focuses on identifying talents and strengths; includes a soul writing session to discover one’s mission; and then several exercises to help write a mission statement. A workbook is included. The Resonance Method of Past Life Recall Often clues about a possible past life are contained in every day preferences. The Resonance Method of past life recall analyzes one’s current psychological makeup for clues about a possible past life. It does not use an altered state of consciousness, so it’s a good first-­‐step for beginners. During this experiential workshop, participants will explore their various likes and dislikes in such categories as geography, food, art, occupations, physical traits, talents, hobbies, etc. With that information, participants can put together pieces of a puzzle that will give them a fascinating glimpse of who they may have been.
