Das Kunsthistorische Museum wurde von Kaiser Franz Joseph für die imperialen
Sammlungen erbaut und zählt mit seinen atemberaubenden Kunstschätzen zu den
bedeutendsten Museen der Welt. Einzigartige Hauptwerke von Rubens, Rembrandt,
Raffael, Vermeer, Velázquez, Tizian und Dürer sowie die größte Bruegel-Sammlung
weltweit lassen den Besuch des Kunsthistorischen Museums zu einem unvergesslichen
Erlebnis werden. Ein großartiger Kunstgenuss ist auch die prachtvolle Architektur des
Museums an der Ringstraße und der Bilderzyklus im imposanten Treppenhaus, an dem
Gustav Klimt mitgewirkt hat.

Im ältesten Teil der Hofburg, dem Schweizerhof, finden Sie die einzigartigen Schätze
der Habsburger, wie die österreichische Kaiserkrone und den Kronschatz des Heiligen
Römischen Reiches mit der Reichskrone. Weitere Höhepunkte sind das ThronWiegenbett von Napoleons Sohn, der Schatz des Ordens vom Goldenen Vlies sowie
die Bestände des unermesslich reichen Burgunderschatzes aus dem 15. Jahrhundert.
Zu sehen sind auch bezaubernde Schmuckstücke habsburgischer Kaiserinnen und
Prinzessinnen und Teile des Originalschmucks von Kaiserin Elisabeth.
WAGENBURG

Die Wagenburg beim Schloss Schönbrunn, ebenfalls Teil der habsburgischen Sammlungen, präsentiert den prachtvollen kaiserlichen Fuhrpark. Besonders eindrucksvoll
sind der barocke Imperialwagen, ein Hochzeitswagen Napoleons und die Kutschen
der Kaiserin Elisabeth, die mit ausgesuchten Kultobjekten kombiniert sind, darunter
Sisis einzig erhaltener Sattel und ihr prachtvolles Originalkleid mit meterlanger Schleppe.

The Emperor Franz Joseph built the Kunsthistorisches Museum to house the imperial
collections. Its breath-taking treasures make it one of the most important museums in
the world. Unique masterpieces by Rubens, Rembrandt, Raphael, Vermeer, Velazquez,
Titian and Durer, as well as the world’s largest collection of works by Pieter Bruegel the
elder, make a visit to the Kunsthistorisches Museum an unforgettable experience.
Equally enjoyable for every art-lover is the magnificent building itself with its imposing
staircase featuring a series of paintings on which Gustav Klimt collaborated.

The oldest part of the Hofburg Palace, the Schweizerhof, houses the unrivalled treasures
of the Habsburgs, among them the Austrian imperial crown, and the crown and insignia
of the Holy Roman Empire. Other highlights include the golden cradle of Napoleon’s
son, the treasure of the Order of the Golden Fleece, and the extant holdings of the
sumptuous 15th century treasure of the Dukes of Burgundy.
Also on show are charming pieces of jewellery once worn by Habsburg empresses and
princesses, and pieces formerly in the possession of the Empress Elisabeth.
IMPERIAL CARRIAGE MUSEUM

The Imperial Carriage Museum near Schönbrunn Palace – also part of the Habsburg
collections – houses a magnificent collection of imperial carriages and sleighs.
Of particular importance are the opulent baroque Imperial Coach, one of Napoleon’s
wedding carriages, and the carriages once used by the Empress Elisabeth. The latter are
shown with carefully selected objects documenting the life of the Empress, among them
her only extant saddle and one of her resplendent court dresses with a long train.
