Mission
The Kankakee Valley Park District exists to acquire, develop, and maintain
parks, promote the conservation of natural and historical resources, and
provide recreational facilities, programs and services for the benefit of all
District residents. The ability to accomplish our mission is made possible through
the dedicated efforts of commissioners and staff, the generosity of area residents,
a combination of tax dollars, fees, private donations and grants, and by
working cooperatively with other governmental and private entities.
Administrative Office
Lost and Found
Items left at Park District programs or events will be kept at the Park District Administrative Office. Items can be retrieved during regular business hours. Items will be kept
for 30 days and then donated.
Gift Cards
Give a gift of recreation! Gift cards are good for any Park District program, including bus trips and sports leagues. Gift cards may be purchased at our Administrative Office located at 893 W. Station St., Kankakee or at the RecCenter located at
150 N. Indiana Ave., Kankakee.

Park District Board Meetings
Meetings are held the fourth Monday of each month at 5:00 p.m. in the Bird Park
Meeting Room located at 893 W. Station St., Kankakee. Residents are invited to
attend to make suggestions or comments to help us improve the programs and
facilities we offer.
Kankakee Valley Park Foundation
The Kankakee Valley Park Foundation is organized and operated exclusively for
educational, civic and charitable purposes. The Foundation’s mission is to improve
the quality of life in the Kankakee area by assisting in the preservation of open
space and enhancing recreation facilities and programs in Kankakee for people of
all ages to enjoy.

Program/Class Deadlines
Please try to register early for classes to ensure the success of a program. For most
programs, a decision will be made 3 days before a class is scheduled to begin.
Registering at the last minute may mean that the program has already been cancelled. If you miss a deadline, please call (815) 939-1311 to see if there has been
an extension.
Dog Owners
We ask that you follow park and city ordinances. Please keep your pets on a leash
at all times and clean up after them. For information on River Run Dog Park see
page 27. Thank you for your cooperation.
Grills in our Parks
Groups are allowed to bring grills out to any Park District park. If you bring a charcoal
grill, we ask that you take the used charcoal with you and dispose of it on your own.
Please do not leave it on the ground or place it any garbage can on site.

A $50 service charge will be assessed on all checks returned due to insufficient
funds.
1. Full refunds will be issued for any program canceled by the Park District.
2. Filling out a refund request does not guarantee a refund.
3. Participants may request refunds for programs up to three business days before
the program’s first meeting. In athletic programs and leagues, the program is
considered to begin with its first practice.
4. Refunds will be issued via check 7-21 business days once approved.
5. Refunds for trips and contractual programs will only be issued if the spot can be
filled from the waiting list. A full refund policy can be found on our website
at www.kvpd.com
The KVPD facilities and programs are offered on a non-discriminatory basis.

Severe Weather Policy
Programs and Splash Valley Aquatic Park may be cancelled due to severe weather.
Decisions about canceling an event will be made at least one hour before the
scheduled start time. If an activity is interrupted by severe weather, a supervisor
will stay with the participants until the weather has passed, or the participants
have been picked up by a parent/guardian. Each facility and event has a weather
line that can be reached by calling (815) 939-1311, and following the automated
attendant instructions.

The Kankakee Valley Park District is expanding our educational and recreational
programs. If you have a particular skill, have an idea for a new program, or are
qualified to teach various recreational or educational classes, please call (815)
929-1885 ext. 303.
Publicity Photos
The Kankakee Valley Park District takes pictures at its parks, programs and special
events for publicity purposes. Please be aware while visiting parks or attending
Park District programs, pictures of you and your family may be taken and used for
publicity purposes without notification or compensation.
Get Your Picture I.D. at the New RecCenter. . .
Whether you need a Dog Park pass or a Splash Valley pass, you now get them
at the new RecCenter located at 150 N. Indiana Ave., Kankakee, IL 60901. The
number there is 815.929.1885 and they will get you set up. Once Splash Valley
opens you may also get your Splash passes there. If you have your Season Pass
from last year, you can simply renew it at any office, no need for us to print a new
card.

The Kankakee County Museum campus is located at 801 S. 8th Avenue in Kankakee, IL at
Governor Small Memorial Park, which is owned by the Kankakee Valley Park District.
Many of these exhibits are changed often, so there is always something new to explore.

Enjoy the beautiful, scenic Kankakee River

all summer. Kankakee’s spacious Beckman
Boat Harbor can accommodate boats up to 26
feet long. Each slip rental includes two parking
passes (exclusively for the slip renter). The harbor is fenced-in and each renter receives their
very own key to the locked gate. Proof of boat
registration and insurance is required at time
of rental. Space is limited, so hurry in today!

The Garbo the Musical is an original one woman musical on
the enigmatic Swedish film star, Greta Garbo (1905- 1990).
Considered by many, the greatest film actress of all time. Her image
was that of androgynous glamour. A worldwide phenomenon, she
shunned the limelight. This is a matinée performance with a complementary lunch before the musical. Lunch includes; Minestrone Soup
or Tossed Salad, Chicken Vesuvio, roasted potatoes, green beans,
vanilla ice cream, hot Italian bread, coffee, tea, and milk. Join us at
the Elmcrest Banquet Hall in Elmwood Park Illinois! Tickets for this

Chicago Architecture Foundation’s
River Cruise
The Chicago Architecture Foundation River Cruise aboard Chicago’s First Lady is a “must” for out-of-towners and Chicagoans
alike. CAF certified volunteer tour guides—called docents—interpret more than 50 buildings along the Chicago River, revealing
how the city grew from a small back-country outpost into one
of the world’s most important crossroads in less than 100 years.
This cruise begins at 10:00 a.m. from the First Lady Riverside
Gardens Dock on the corner of Michigan and Wacker. We will
stay for 3 hours after the 90 minute cruise so you can go out to
lunch and/or shop nearby. Please register before August 12th.

Tai Chi In-a-Chair
Developed with the input and guidance of medical
specialists, yoga teachers and Tai Chi teachers, this therapeutic
routine features gentle stretching, moderate movement, and
healthful breathing. The techniques are designed to improve
stamina, balance, and flexibility. Most of the routine is
performed while seated, and if possible, a simple Tai Chi Form
is taught standing. Appropriate for all ages and abilities, the
form has been featured internationally, presented at national and
regional wellness events, and is recommended by many doctors
and physical therapists.

Taekwondo For Tiny Tigers
Do you want to do something great for your children? Learning
the Korean martial art form known as Songahm will help your
child develop discipline, confidence, concentration and selfcontrol, all qualities that are important to a child’s growth. Basic
techniques including punching, kicking forms, and self defense
are taught in this class. Uniforms are required. You can purchase
one at ATA. Each session is an 8 week course; 2 classes per week.

Nature Series
Has your child ever asked why the leaves change color? When
the seasons change plants and animals change as well. As summer
gives way to fall and then winter, this class will examine all the
different ways plants, animals and insects adapt to the cold. The
transitions of nature are sure to amaze your most curious child.

Horseback Riding Lessons
Students will be introduced to horse basics and safety. They will
learn how to approach their horse in its stall, put its halter on,
groom, and saddle their horse. In addition, students will learn
about basic horse and equipment care. Long pants and shoes

Fundamentals of Ice Skating
This program introduces the fundamental moves of skating: forward skating, backward skating, stops, crossovers, and turns.
Upon completion of the Basic Levels, skaters will have a grasp on the sport, enabling them to advance to the more specialized
area of skating: free skating, dance, pairs, hockey, speed skating and synchronized skating. Instructors must strictly adhere to the
standards set by the Learn to Skate USA program in order to advance students to the next level. Classes are 45 minutes instructional
time once per week and skate rental is included. Skaters are invited to join The Academy any time after the completion of Basic 3.

Get out of the classroom and on the ice!
Geared towards preschools, day cares, camps, home schools and elementary
through high school students, your students will learn the basic skills of skating
during this fun filled field trip! Each package includes a safety lesson with one of
our highly qualified instructors. Package A also includes admission and skate rental
for each skater, as well as a hot dog, chips, and one drink. Package B includes
admission and skate rental for each skater, as well as chips and one drink
per person. Package C includes admission and skate rental for each skater.
Package D includes admission, skate rental, hockey stick, puck, and goals
(limited for groups up to 15 persons max).

Here is how it works: students aged 5-15 will sign-in at the
front desk, perform 30 minutes of homework in one of our
meeting rooms, and after 30 minutes of homework the kids will
receive admission and skate rental for $3. Students will then
get an introduction 30 minutes learn to skate lesson. If the
students have progressed enough where they no longer need
lessons then 30 minutes of on-ice games will be played
instead. It is a win-win blend of academics and exercise!

The Academy
The Academy The Academy is designed to teach skating skills at
a faster pace in a small group environment. This seven week training
program will provide skaters with a variety of on ice skating instruction
as well as the opportunity to develop further mastery of their skills by
working in a semi-private or small group. The program will touch upon
the following U.S. Figure Skating disciplines: Ice dancing, synchronized team skating, Artistry in Motion, jumps and spins, Moves in the
Field, power skating, and the Basic Skills levels. This class is perfect
for anyone wanting to perform in ice shows, compete, learn new
disciplines in figure skating or wanting to advance through the levels
quicker. Academy Bronze is for skaters in Basic 4-6 and Pre-Freeskate,
Academy Silver is for skaters in Freeskate 1-4 and Academy Gold is for
skaters in Freeskate 5-6 and beyond. No classes November 24.

Back 2 Skating Camp
Get your “skates” back underneath you after a summer off the ice! A fun and
interactive camp for the advancing skater. This Three day camp will provide skaters
with a variety of on and off ice skating instruction as well as the opportunity to develop
further mastery of their skills by working in semi-private or small groups. Skaters who
have been off the ice during the summer will enjoy jumping back in to classes in a camp
environment. Skaters must be in Basic 4 and up and between the ages of 6 and 17 years
of age. Skaters are required to wear skating attire during classes. Please bring gym shoes,
a towel, snack and water each day.

The Hockey Academy
Does your child want to play the sport of Hockey, but not sure if
they are fully ready? Come join the Hockey Academy which will
meet twice a week and will cover skating technique, puck handling skills and game situations so that you will be ready for the
big game at the end of the session! Full equipment is required for

Adult Drop-In Hockey
Come play some rat hockey to brush up those skills. Play for
two hours of game play with players of ages 18 and up. Drop
in will be limited to a maximum of 30 skaters and four goalies,
no exceptions. Players are required to have full equipment and
sign a waiver at the beginning of each drop-in to be eligible to
participate. There must be a minimum of 5 people that show
within the first hour or credit will be given.

Ice Valley’s popular adult hockey league is back! The adult
league will play on Wednesday nights with each team playing
ten regular season games followed by a single elimination playoff
to determine the champion. So get a team together and let’s play
hockey! All participants must be 18 years of age or older to participate in this league. If you would like to play in the league and
can’t find a team you can contact the league coordinator at the
Ice Valley Centre for placement on a team. Bring ID’s to check-in.

Adult Intro to hockey will focus on skating technique, puck handling skills, and team concepts throughout the class session. So,

This program is designed to
introduce children ages 3-8
with little or no skating
experience to the fun and
exciting game of hockey with

Adult Basketball League
This fall showcase your basketball skills in our newly remodeled Rec Center.
Gather your team and register now! Teams will play one game per night for 8 weeks,
and a single elimination tournament to end the season. Register early as registration
