Casino Bus Trip With all the holidays over, it’s time for you to take a little time for yourself! Join SCPR as we head over to the Arundel Mills Mall, with over 180 outlets to choose from including Coach, Gap, Corningware, Corelle, Legos, Nike, and more. You will be sure to find a few outlets that will suit your needs! If shopping isn’t your thing, then right next door is one of the biggest Live! Casinos in the nation. Maryland’s Live! That’s right we will enjoy an afternoon game at Citizens Bank Park, the Phillies’ spectacular ballpark, as they host none other than the Baltimore O’s! The next day we will visit the new 9/11 Memorial and Museum with some free time to shop in the area and then we’ll e lll head to Yankee Stadium for the night game as they host the Detroit Tigers! Before heading home on Saturday, we’ll enjoy a ferry ride to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis ! EW Island since no visit to NY is complete without ut N visiting these two landmarks. This 3 day/2 night ht package includes 2 nights hotel accommodations, 2 breakfasts, tickets to games, memorials and baggage handling. Bus will leave Woodstock Lowes at 6:30am. Enjoy a 3day/2 night stay in the Heart of the Amish Country. While we are there we will take a guided tour of Amish Heartland as we are taken deep into the heart of the oldest Amish community in the world, you will be able to see most of the beautiful farm land and tour the back roads to explore cultural highlights of the Amish world! Also, included will be a musical that is brand new “Josiah for President”, enjoy visiting the shops and the locally owned Amish businesses. Lastly, we will take a tour of Sugarcreek, Ohio also known as The Little Switzerland of Ohio and boast a rich taste of Swiss heritage merged with the Amish way of Life. NEW ACTIVITY 270409A Youth Classes Tykes On Bikes Who wants to learn how to ride a bicycle, without worrying about falling? Does pedaling define riding? Downhill mountain bikers don’t pedal, road bike riders descending a back road don’t pedal, BMX riders in a halfpipe don’t pedal, and motorcyclists don’t pedal. They are all riding. What do they all have in common? The ability to balance on two wheels, and lean through turns regardless of what put them in motion. For children, walking and running are motions that come natural. The simplicity of Strider bikes allows children to concentrate on the fundamental skills of balancing, leaning, and steering while propelling the bike in a natural way. NEW Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation - Spring 2015 “We create community through people, parks, and programs.” Youth Classes continued Youth Gymnastics Lil’ Tykes: All those lil’ tykes out there with tons of energy who love to bounce and move and dance need to enroll in this introductory gymnastics that will focus on teaching basic tumbling movements and introduce the balance beam. Skills include donkey kicks, basic rolls, jumps, balancing abilities and a baby cartwheel. This class will introduce your child to new friends and help build confidence. PLEASE NOTE: Deadline to regsiter is April 10, max 15 participants. For ages 2-4 years. Beginners: During these introductory gymnastics classes students will spend time working on flexibility and stretching through exercises on the beam, floor and vault. Skills include basic and proper techniques, handstands, cartwheels, various rolls, and bridges. Focus will also include muscular functions and flexibility in a safe manner. Then this exciting cheer team is for you, as you will perform at local events such as parades, festivals, the fair and other special events. This two-part season runs April through May and picks back up in August and runs through November, registration fee covers both. Practices are every other Tuesday for one hour. There is an additional uniform fee of $25 (shirt, shorts, hair bow, poms) which applies if you are new to the Shenandoah Cheer League performance team, this fee is paid to the instructor once you start practice. The performance cheer team is a fun way to show off what you learned in classes each week, this is not a competition squad. PLEASE NOTE: Participants may register at any time throughout the year. We dance in bare feet to soft soothing music to open up, relax, let go, feel open and free. This class will include flowing floor work as well as standing flows. The focus is on being free to express ourselves through the movement. There is no right or wrong way to go through the movement, just let yourself go. This is a slow moving gentle class done to spa music. We will open up, stretch, and relax into a body and mind connection. Parents, make this class a family activity! This is the perfect beginner’s class to share with your son/daughter creating that special bond while spending more fun time together all while learning proven techniques designed to allow you to protect yourself in real life situations. Class will cover punching, kicking, sparring, self-defense techniques, take-downs and throws, breaking of holds, flexibility, coordination, weapons, philosophy and history of Karate. You may register for and begin at any time. For any of these activities you will need a six-string guitar (or four-string bass guitar) and tuner. This class is open to seasoned actors or newcomers to the stage. Participants will learn how to analyze and create a unique character on stage and then place that character within an event in response to other characters. Participants will also learn how to present a monologue that is typically required for theatrical auditions. The class will culminate with a presentation of the individual monologues and the scene for family and friends. PLEASE NOTE: Deadline to register is April 6. For ages 16 and over. You will learn how to prepare, paint and preserve a 2’ x 3’ piece of canvas, so it can be used as a substitute for a floor rug in your home. Those under 18 should have a parent or guardian present. SCPR has partnered with Outdoor Adventure Experiences to provide this great trip which will provide large white water rafts that are nearly impossible to flip and are still very easy to steer. Each raft can seat up to six adults and includes a guide in each raft. These trips are particularly wonderful for families with children or older adults. Tai Chi is typically practiced for a variety of reasons: its soft martial techniques, demonstration competitions, healthy and longevity. You will practice Tai Chi using slow-motion routines, where you’ll focus the mind solely on the movements bringing about a state of mental calm and clarity. You’ll want to wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing for these exercises. There’s no high-impact here, so come on out and give it a try!
