A Great Time to Get Involved and Stay Active…

lock parties are back! What a wonderful way to
get to know your neighbor better. Beginning on
Monday, January 24th and continuing through Mondays
in February, different sections of the building will be
having informal “neighborhood” get-togethers. Flyers
have been posted indicating the dates and times when
a party is coming to your neighborhood. You will also
receive a personal invite as a reminder so you won’t miss
the date. Last year’s parties were a great success! So
please join Pamela and me at your neighborhood’s block
party for some games, snacks, prizes and friendship. We
look forward to seeing you there!
Football fans can get together on Super Bowl Sunday,
February 6th, at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room to
watch the game on the big screen. Food and beverages
will be available in the Community Room to enjoy while
you watch the game.
I wanted to send a special thank you to June M., Toni
H., Lloyd S., and Mary B. for sharing their artistic talents
with us. The Southington Arts and Crafts Association
asked if they could showcase the artwork of The
Orchards’ residents and our residents’ beautiful paintings
have graced the walls of the Community Room during
December and January. We have enjoyed the scenery
very much!
A few upcoming events in the months ahead…
The talented Maggie Carchrie, founder and director of
the Callanish School of Celtic Arts, will be stepping high
to the spirited Irish tunes at a St. Patrick’s Day party
planned for March 17th. A great turnout is expected for
this festive party!
Resident, Marie R. shares a dance with waiter, Brandon at
the recent Orchards New Year’s Eve party.
In early April, we will be going to the Repertory
Theater in New Britain to see Neil Simon’s first
Broadway comedy smash hit, “Come Blow Your
Horn.” For those who have never seen a play at this
fine community theater, you’re in for a most enjoyable
evening! We’ll be having early sign-ups for this trip as
tickets go fast.
In late April, we’ll be hosting another Orchards’ tag
sale. This is a great time to sort through any unwanted
items you may wish to donate for the sale. Family
members are welcome to drop off tag sale items as
well. This year, proceeds for the tag sale will be used to
support our “Life Stories” program. More details about
the tag sale will be made available next month.
Until then, I hope to see you at our regular
programs and out trips and don’t forget to attend your
neighborhood block party this month! 

Life Stories

id
Several residents are currently working with volunteers on
their life stories. Your biography and family history, captured
through a series of interviews with a Life Stories volunteer,
along with family pictures, are compiled into a beautiful
hard cover book. Volunteers are happy to work with your
family members on this project as well. “Life Stories” is your
opportunity to leave a legacy of your story to your family that
they can cherish for generations to come. There is no cost
to you for this. If you would like more information, please
contact Lynn Patrick, Life Stories Coordinator, at
860-302-7646 or Michele Korby-Gale at The Orchards.

You “Can” Do It
Thanks to our employees and residents who contributed cans
to our “You ‘Can’ Do It” Fund, with proceeds to benefit our
Serenity Garden. We have raised $1,111.25...
That’s a whopping 22,225 cans and bottles!
