Together, all of our efforts are focused on helping out students achieve this through Academic Fitness, Physical Fitness, and Social Fitness. Here are some examples of great things happening at Tball this week: Our Tball parents stopped in to scoop out some love as our students meeting their quarterly AR goals enjoyed some ice cream at lunch! Congratulations and thank you for supporting our readers! Next, our students in K-2 have worked hard with our PBS paraprofessional on our “Second Steps” program. Mrs. D has visited all of our primary classes students are hitting some milestones in the program. Kindergarten: 25 weeks First Grade: 22 weeks Second Grade: 9weeks This program helps our students learn listening skills, learning skills, and how to calm down. “Eyes Watching….Ears Listening….Voice Quiet…..Body Still”. Thank you Mrs. D. for all of your hard work! We would like to offer a final shout out to our students in Grade 5 who showcased their beautiful voices in the All City Honors Choir concert this week! Family Bingo For Books Night - Wednesday, April 23, 6:00pm -7:30pm, TBall Café, FREE Family Event – Students must be accompanied by an adult 2nd Grade Field Trip—Our 2nd grade classes will be attending Taltree Aboretum & Gardens on Wednesday, May 7. They will be leaving at 9:00am. First Grade Field Trip—Our 1st grade classes will be attending Taltree Aboretum & Gardens on Wednesday, May 28. They will be leaving at 9:15am Lunch Time Information from Our Cafeteria Manager, Ms. Owczarzak Lunch Time Visitors Each student is allowed to have ONE GUEST PER MONTH join the student for lunch. RESTAURANT/FAST FOOD & SODAS ARE NOT ALLOWED. Parents purchase lunch in the cafeteria cost is $2.75. This cannot come off the student’s lunch card. Guests are asked to call in the morning & let the school know that they will be arriving that day. Lunch Time Money Please go online www.mymealtime.com to deposit lunch money or send a check in a labeled envelope with student first and last name. Mealtime online passcodes are now the student ID#’s. Parents can find this number on book rental bills, RDS (next to student’s name) or on their schedule. Parents will use this number to set up an account on mealtime online for their student. If they already have an account established, parents do not need to do anything with the existing account. Feel free to change this around or word it any way you like. Bottom line the mealtime passcodes are the student ID#’s. ALL STUDENTS will receive a HOT LUNCH regardless if they are NEGATIVE. NO CHARGING of any extras will be allowed. 2014-2015 School Year Kindergarten Registration Please contact the school office (663-0047) to schedule a time to register your incoming Kindergartener. Incoming Kindergarteners must turn 5yrs. by August 1, 2014. To Register your kindergartener bring: ∗ Child’s Birth Certificate ∗ Child’s Social Security Card ∗ Child’s Immunization Record ∗ Parent’s Driver’s License ∗ Two Proof of Residency such as NIPSCO/Water Bill, copy of lease, or copy of mortgage. A Social Fitness Note from our Positive Behavior Intervention & Support Paraprofessional (PBIS), Mrs. Derwinski Monday Morning Stomp Out Bullying Tip Be assertive but not aggressive. Look and act confident by using a firm vice to tell the bully to “Stop It”. Bullies don’t usually bother confident people. A Note from our Physical Education Teacher, Mrs. Decker Field Day will be Friday, June 6 with a rain date of Monday, June 9. We love to have our Timothy Ball parents come and help with Field Day. It’s a great way to spend time with your child and their classmates. Please contact Mrs. Decker at [email protected] to volunteer. Did you bring your lunch, but need a drink? Milk may be purchased, if you brought in a lunch from home, but you may not charge it. Heating up Lunches Our cafeteria does not warm up food, cook food or wash dishes brought from home. If we tamper with the food it becomes the responsibility of the cafeteria. Please, if you are sending in hot food make sure it is in a thermos. Substitute in the Cafeteria? If you would like to be a sub in food services please call Pam Maloney at 662-6480. This is a great way to earn a little extra cash and be home with your children in the morning and afternoon. A Note from our Nurse, Mrs. Guritz Attention Parents of all 5th Grade Students: Your child will be coming home with a yellow physical card and attached letter regarding necessary physical and vaccines that will be required before entering middle school. This information will be sent home after spring break inside your child’s report card envelope. If parents need to meet with a teacher they should enter through the main door 1S. School Visitors Any visitors to our school will be asked to provide a Driver’s License or State ID when entering the school. This took effect on Monday, April 7, 2014. PTO Corner Community Corner PTO is excited to introduce some new fundraising opportunities to Timothy Ball. The Southlake YMCA Elementary Fun Nights—for youths in gr. 3-5 on the following dates: May 2 & 16. Participate in swimming, basketball, dodge ball, soccer, volleyball, movies, music, games, & more. Food & drinks will be available for an additional cost. 7:15pm - 10pm, $5 for members & $8 for nonmembers. These new opportunities will help ensure the various activities that the students have come to love can continue uninterrupted. Money saving coupon books are now available for only $20 each. Experience savings all throughout Lake county and Illinois. TBall receives $10 for every book sold. It's an easy way to raise money for our students. Plus TBall has teamed up with Chuck E . Cheese in Merrillville for a fundraising night. Come out to Chuck E. Cheese this May for a fun family night with friends, teachers and Chuck E. Cheese. More information coming soon. Lastly, volunteers are always welcome in the PTO. Getting involved is a great way to stay informed about school events as well as meeting fellow parents. APRIL IS YOUNG AUTHORS’ MONTH AT TIMOTHY BALL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL Every student has an opportunity to become an author at Timothy Ball. GUIDELINES 1 – Books may be fiction, non-fiction or a poetry collection. Students may collaborate with each other. The finished product should reflect the number of students collaborating. Kindergartners may choose to enter their own picture books. They may copy a few words as told to parents, teachers, or helpers. 2 – Each book must have a title page, including the title of the story, author and illustrator’s names, classroom teacher’s name and grade level. 3 – Books may be created with materials from home or from those supplied in class. The stories may be handwritten or completed using a computer. 4 – Students may illustrate books in pencil, crayon, markers, water color, ink, photographs or computer graphics. 5 – Stories should be written in good taste. Teachers have the right to disqualify any book with inappropriate content. 6 – All students who submit their books to their classroom teacher by the end of school Wednesday, April 30, will receive a participant ribbon. After the books are submitted, they are kept in the library for the student body to enjoy until the last week of school.
