Any student with first semester failing grades and any current student planning to take summer elective classes should have already registered. Registration forms submitted after the May 18 deadline may incur a $25 late fee. Registration for students who earn second semester failures (or a D grade in Spanish I), will take place on campus on Friday, June 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. All students who are in jeopardy of failing second semester courses are required to verify their final grades by checking the online grade portal (preferred method) or by calling the Studies Office at extension 7451 on Tuesday, June 5. Those students who earn failing second semester grades MUST register for summer classes on Friday, June 15. Summer School Textbooks Textbook purchases for summer school courses will be conducted through the ESCO online bookstore. Beginning June 1, parents may purchase summer school textbooks by clicking the Book Sales link on the Bishop Amat webpage (www.bishopamatbooks. com). Textbooks will be shipped to the student’s home generally within three days of placing an order. As most summer school makeup courses use the same textbook(s) required during the school year, parents are advised to check with their student prior to placing a summer school order with ESCO. Some summer school courses have fee slips and/or rental fees. These fees will be handled on campus through the student store. The student store will be open on Friday June 15 from 4:007:00 p.m. and the first week of summer classes (June 18-22) from 7:30 a.m. to 1:15 p.m Virtus Training Volunteers at Bishop Amat must attend a Virtus Training. NEW PARENT ORIENTATION A new parent orientation session will take place on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. in the Carroll Center Dining Room. PARENT PLEDGE PROGRAM Parent Pledge statements will me mailed home the last week of June. Please be reminded that when you registered your son/daughter as a freshman or transfer student, you signed a Parent Pledge Contract promising to participate in the program by making monthly payments of $35 or an annual payment of $420 to the Development Office. For the 20122013 school year, parents who take care of their annual obligation prior to July 30 will earn their 5 development hours ($100 value). For more information, call Mrs. Adamek at Ext. 7456. There are three categories in which hours need to be completed: 25 hours - (various) 6 hours - Bingo 5 hours - Development Bingo is held every Sunday during the Summer. It is a way to earn parent hours and an opportunity to meet other parents. CLASS REUNIONS Reunions have been planned for the following classes: 1962 - 50 Year - October 28, 2012 1972 - 40 Year - August 11, 2012 1982 - 30 Year - August 4, 2012 1992 - 20 Year - October 6, 2012 2002 - 10 Year - November 3, 2012 Detailed information is available on the Bishop Amat High School Alumni Portal. Go to alumni.bishopamat.org and click on Reunion Information. ATHLETIC INFORMATION Athletic Packets & Sports Physicals Who must complete an Athletic Packet? All new and returning athletes. The Athletic Packet is a part of your eligibility for sports participation and expires at the end of each school year, with physical expiring one year from the date of your previous physical. 2012-2013 Athletic Packets are now available outside the Athletic Office and in the front office. Athletic Packets must be renewed every year. You must attach your $75 athletic fee (checks only) to your 2012-2013 Athletic Packet when you turn it in. Where do I turn in my Athletic Packet? Turn it in to the Athletic Office during school hours ONLY. DO NOT TURN IN ATHLETIC PACKETS TO YOUR COACH OR THE FRONT OFFICE. We cannot be responsible for Athletic Packets and money turned in to other offices or persons. A copy will be given to you, signed off from the Athletic Office that it has been received as your receipt as proof of your clearance and receipt or non-receipt of payment. Who needs a Sports Physical? All new and returning athletes. A completed Sports Physical is also a part of your eligibility for sports participation. Physicals expire one year from the date completed and must be done by an M.D, or D.O. only, not a chiropractor DC, R.N., PAC etc. Coaches will not allow you to participate if your physical expires. The mandatory physical exam form has been provided for you in the 20122013 Athletic Packet to be filled out by your doctor. Are Sports Physicals being offered on campus? Yes. Physicals are being offered through Gary M. Souza, P.T. and Associates. This physical includes a complete orthopedic evaluation. Pre-participation orthopedic evaluations help athletes prevent and identify risk factors for athletic injury. Returning and incoming students may receive a sports physical on campus Thursday, June 28, beginning at 1:00 pm. Students should check physical times for their particular sport to avoid waiting in line. What do I need to get a Sports Physical on campus? On the day of the physical you must bring your completed Athletic Packet, $75 Athletic Fee, and $20 CASH to pay for your physical, and a SIGNED parent-consent form allowing the athlete to receive a sports physical from Gary M. Souza, P.T. and Associates. Parent consent forms for the physical can be picked up in the Athletic Office and are in your Athletic Packet. You will not be given a Sports Physical without your • Athletic Packet, • $20 CASH, and • signed parent-consent form. No checks accepted for on campus physicals. How do I know if I’m cleared to participate? You will be given a receipt (copy of your clearance) from the athletic office when it was turned in. Coaches are not allowed to let students participate with out a copy of their athletic clearance from the Athletic Office. Football It is mandatory that all football players take football conditioning in summer school. Please register through the summer school office. Summer school June 18 – July 20. Please make sure you have a current physical on file in the Athletic Office by June 16 or sign up for the on campus physical on Thursday, June 28. Freshman should bring a shirt, shorts and running shoes for the 1st day of summer school. Spirit packs will be available for purchase in the Equipment Room on the 1st day. There will be a Freshman Parent Meeting on Monday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Student Activity Center. Spirit packs will be available for sale at this meeting as well. Freshman football practice will be on Monday – Friday throughout summer school from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Also, there will be a Hit & Hustle Football Camp for kids entering grades 3-8 on Friday, June 22, 6:00 p.m .- 9:00 p.m.; Saturday, June 23, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.. Cross Country/Track Students interested in running on the men’s or women’s Cross-Country teams should contact Coach Lodolo at [email protected] . Official workouts begin on June 23. Workouts will be held at various locations such as Mt. Sac., Bonelli Park, Arcadia County Park, and Legg Lake. Summer trips to Southland beaches, Palm Springs, Lake Gregory and a week of training in San Luis Obispo have been planned. We pride ourselves on having one of the most developed summer cross country programs in the area. If you are looking to join a winner and willing to work hard to contribute to our success, we want you to join our Amat racing family!!! TRACK AND FIELD TEAM Students interested in competing during the track and field season, and who will not be competing in a fall sport, are encouraged to contact Coach Lodolo about the summer conditioning program that will take place on campus. The conditioning program includes all aspects of conditioning, speed, and strength training needed to compete in upcoming competitions. Sessions run 2:00--7:00 pm for high school and 10-1 pm for kids ages 6-14. Cost of the camp is $100 for high school, $75 for kids and $125 for both. No experience is necessary. This time period does not interfere with football since it is during their dead period. Russian trained Ramon Diaz and national champion Camillo Gonzalez will be our featured clinicians. Our summer league is from June 18-July 26, and is held in our wrestling room, southwest corner of the campus. Classes are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 - 8:15 pm and 1:15-3:15 pm Mon. thru Thur. (sometimes held in weight room). Cost is $85 or $60 for football players in summer conditioning. Sign-up for and come as often as schedule permits. We are a winter sport; getting starting early will provide a tremendous advantage.
