Do You Love Your Dog
More Than Your Kids?
Not much of a social media fan, but I am on Facebook, and sometimes do
find it informative. When
I first signed up, somehow
or another, I do not remember how, many of my
former employees became
my “friends”. Some go
back as far as 30-35 years
ago. I thought it was kind
of neat to hear voices out
of the distant past. Some
had kind words and I do
read most of what they
post. Others, the language
or content did not please
me so they have been unfriended. Mostly frown on
those who use it for their
political or religion views,
even if I agree. Just feel
it is not the proper platform.
With that said, sometimes you overlook the
post you do not want
to read and go on. Just
happens this one kind of
bugged me. The poster is
a long ago employee who
no longer even lives in the
area. She bragged one day
on Facebook about having
her tubes tied as she did
not want any children. No
problem with that as she
just was that kind of person and would have made
a poor mother. Recently
she had another post that
had me thinking. She said,
“I definitely love my dogs
as much, if not more, than
people love their kids!”
That post prompted a
comment from her friend.
“I’m with you, never had
kids. For me it was not a
priority. There are plenty
of women out there who
want a gazillion & that’s
ok. Just not for me!” Like
I said, that is fine, as they
would make lousy mothers. They are fortunate
their mothers did not feel
the same way. However,
to compare the love for a
dog with someone’s love
for a child just sets me
back. Unless you have
both, how could you compare?
We for sure know the
love for a dog as we have
almost always owned one.
There seems to be no undying love between the
owner and the canine. The
enormous greetings when
they see you, and the hap-

piness just to touch or be
touched by you. We know
that feeling and we still
to this day, have a very
loving dog. It is a totally
different kind of love than
the one you feel for your
children. We had eight so
there is no lack of comparison with the two. My wife
had no problem with having a “gazillion kids” and
loved each and every one
of them. Plus the dog! The
difference is that now she
has eight grown adults
who not only love her but
adore her. The dogs we
had are long gone. Our
children have children
and the love for grandma
continues. As does our
endless love for the grandchildren. We love our dog
but he just does not feel
the great compassion being spread at this time of
year. We do, our kids do
and so do our grandkids.

Seems that resident
decorators are trying to
outdo the house next door
or down the street. I drive
past the same house every
day and it appears there
are more lights than the
day before. Not only that
but more people are participating. If you see a
house not lit up you think
they are scrooges. Make
no mistake a large percentage have some kind
of religious theme with a
manger scene .Their way
of saying Merry Christmas without a protest.
It is just great to take
an evening and “see the
lights”. Put the kids in
the car and enjoy the season. We used to do that
and they loved it and back
then it was no where near
what you see today. We
left the dog home as he
had no interest. It is hard
to believe that so much
time is spent in arrangements and implementing. We thank those who
spend the energy to make
Christmas a special time
of the year. Especially for
the children.
