Good Luck to our Wales Adventure Trippers
This Week
A long week of examination pressure, super cricket
results, a new Music & Drama suite and even an exciting camping expedition. What a busy week!
Despite this I hope I will be forgiven for focusing on
this morning’s events when we welcomed some very
special guests to our school. There was an air of excitement within the pupil body as we all approached
Church. Children waved and smiled at their grandparents who had come to see them for the morning.
It was a wonderful day, fully covered as you read on. I
would like to thank the ‘stars of the day’ for visiting us,
the children for being such excellent hosts, the staff for
helping to coordinate events and, of course, Tina, Lisa
and Angie for providing such a lovely cream tea.
Enjoy your evening.
New Drama Department
It is with great excitement that we would like to announce the official opening of our brand new MUSIC
& DRAMA department! There has been some big
changes made over half-term to the music room and
we also now have our very own drama studio as part
of this department. We would like to thank Mr Timmermans and the Zestan Ltd team for their generous
sponsorship and hardwork over half term to bring us
this stunning new drama room for our learners to
use, enjoy and be creative in.
We are also in the process of applying to become a
LAMDA drama
examination
centre. Just like
our current
music lessons
arrangements,
we are planning on pre-
senting 1:1 LAMDA drama
exam lessons during school
time, as part of our ever
expanding co-curricular
activities at Chinthurst. Furthermore we are also planning on entering each Year
group for a group LAMDA
drama exam during the
academic year, as part of
the Music & Drama curriculum.
We would like to invite parents to pop in when you
are at school to come and
see our brand new department and rooms and also
meet our new Head of Music and Drama!
Table for 26 Please
Last weekend a number of Dad's from Reception to
Y5 went on a camping trip to Lewes in East Sussex.
Everyone met up at the camp site early on Saturday
morning and got the tents pitched and the camp
ready then we headed to Brighton Marina for some
lunch. After parking and looking for somewhere to
eat we chanced on Pizza Express who looked a little
surprised when we asked for a table for 26 please!!.
Back to the camp site after lunch for some fun and
games, cricket and Frisbee being the favourites followed by a BBQ and a few beers for the Dad's and
fizzy pop and giant marshmallows round the camp
fire for the children... and some Dad's too. After a
late night and early start we all packed up and left for
home on Sunday Morning having thoroughly enjoyed
ourselves.

Colts C v Ewell Castle
Won by 18 runs
Ewell Castle
– 71 for 6 (20 overs)
Chinthurst
– 89 for 2(ret) (8 overs)
On an afternoon that at the same time threatened
beautiful sunshine and imminent monsoon like rain,
the Colts ‘C’ team played a well drilled Ewell Castle
side at TCC. Electing to ball first, Chinthurst started
brightly with our opening bowlers George Pearce and
Archie Russell-Smith bowling beautifully and restricting run scoring opportunities to an absolute minimum, with George also taking 2 wickets. With supporting bowlers James Hammond, Alex Kuleshov,
Beau Booth and Zac Dance also amongst the wickets it
was great afternoons bowling. Onto our batting and
again the boys played wonderfully well with opening
pairing George and James taking us above our target
and to the win after just 6 overs before being retired.
Jason and Henry added more runs before the heavens
opened and everyone was rushed inside to a welcome
drink and treat. Overall it was a pleasure to umpire
my first Colts game and I look forward to working with
this talented team in the future.

Colts A v Ewell Castle
Won by 33 runs
We welcomed Ewell Castle to TCC on a hot and sunny
day (more of that later). We got off to an excellent
start with Alex McWilliam and William Raymond putting on exactly 50 for the first wicket in 8
overs, Alex falling for a fine 17, with 2 fours. What
happened next was a truly ruthless and superbly executed stand of 101 in 7 overs, between William and
Ben Butterfield. Ben was first out after scoring 48 with
8 fours and a huge six, he was however to be outscored by William who scored 60 with 10 fours. Another 50 partnership this time unbroken from Jasper
Lawler 14no, 2 fours and Louis Russell 29no with 4
fours and an even bigger six. At half time the boys
were confident, but also with a determination to do
well in front of the assembled group of parents....then
it got dark after 4 overs with EC on 10-1, then the
thunder started, then the lightning....all very frightening...then came the rain and that was that. Ewell Castle had to score at 10.65 runs per over, 5 overs of the
innings constitutes a game and when the rain came
they were already 33 runs behind the "par" Jacobs/
11
Beadle/Neal score. The best colts
batting performance I've seen by this team, and
one wonders what would the seasons results
would have been if it hadn't rained on most
Wednesdays before we got started. Well done to
all concerned, that is the benchmark! MJ
Colts B vs Ewell Castle Won by 10 wickets
On what started out as a rather humid summer’s
afternoon but soon turned into something out of
a Hollywood blockbuster depicting the near end of
the world; the Colts B team arrived at Tadworth
Cricket Club to face Ewell Castle. Charlie Nichol,
our captain for the day won the toss and chose to
bowl. With a win in mind we started sharply with
some dominant deliveries from the very first over.
From this point on the innings and indeed the
match became rather one-sided with the team
unrelenting in their pressure upon the opposition.
This ensured a relatively safe run chase of 38 to
win off 20 overs. However, just when you think it’s
all over, Mother Nature must a play part. A very
dark, almost purple-looking cloud began to spread
over the horizon, with no breaks in its formation.
We knew it was going to rain and indeed rain a
lot. The question was could we reach the required
38 in time or was this going to be a most undeserving draw. Ben Webster and Zac Smith came to
our rescue with a very fine batting performance,
which (with some gentle persuasion by a certain
umpire to hit and run, hit and run…) we managed
to chase down the total just in time. For having
shaken hands and started walking to the pavilion,
the heavens quite literally ‘opened’ and with it
brought thunderous clashes entwined with aweinspiring streaks of light. The phrase “in the nick
of time” just doesn’t quite do it…! A wonderful
performance by the whole team with our unbeaten season still intact! Thank you for the parental
support (and especially to Mr Nichol for the most
pertinent weather updates).
WB
Junior A’s vs Ewell Castle
Won by 53 runs.
The Junior A’s arrived at Tadworth Cricket Club
with a view to extending their unbeaten season
of cricket. Upon the arrival of our opposition for
the day; Ewell Castle, 2 x 6 ball over pairs cricket
was to be the format for the afternoon. Ewell
Castle won the toss and chose to bowl, meaning
that a solid foundation of runs was required in
order to put our opposition under increasing
pressure come their batting innings. I am very
glad to report that our batting performance was
very steady throughout with some wondrous
shots being played. The highlight of our batting
innings must be Master Mcloughlin’s wondrous
knock of 27 runs off a maximum of two overs;
pretty impressive figures to say the least. The final tally displayed 177 runs, a most impressive
score. We knew now that if we could bowl
straight and field efficiently, the match should be
Junior B v Ewell Castle
Won by 50 runs
We jumped in the mini bus on a hot and sunny
day to play Ewell Castle in our first game following the half term break. Captain Sebastian Hulme
lost the toss and we were inserted, we scored
consistently throughout our innings, lost one
wicket through a run out and generally batted
very well. Sixes were hit by Sebastian (twice) and
Henry Sergeant who's six actually went into the
bushes at TCC. Our pairs scored as follows: James
Hall and Henry S 15 and 27. Lucas Davies and
Frank Whitby 23. Toby Street and Charlie
Caldecott 13. Sebastian and Henry Robinson
25. Oliver Burton and Oliver Hain 8. At the half
time break we talked about accuracy in our bowling - and we duly delivered, wickets were taken
by Sebastian, Oliver B, Henry S and Frank - Frank
bowled the first ever pairs wicket maiden I've
seen for Chinthurst. We've previously
bowled more than 40% of our balls as wides or
no balls. Today it was under 35%, keep focussing
and keep practicing, this was shown by all the
wickets we took as being clean bowled. Well
done everyone, a pleasing performance topped off 12
with superb behaviour and sportsmanship.
MJ
Junior C v Ewell Castle
Won by 67 runs
Ewell Castle
– 262 runs
Chinthurst
– 329 runs
On a muggy afternoon at TCC the Junior ‘C’ team enjoyed their finest afternoon of the cricket season yet,
ending the day with a resounding victory over a talented Ewell Castle side. Winning the toss and deciding to
bowl, our intrepid pupils showed that hard work most
certainly pays off with an exhibition of massively improved bowling. In 12 overs Chinthurst restricted Ewell
Castle to just 62 runs in total, with noticeably fewer
wide and no balls and some excellent wickets taken by
Jude, Toby and Jacob amongst others. Batting against
an equally strong bowling line up, our openers Harry
and Jude showed what huge strides they have made
recently, spraying the ball around the pitch and nicking
some cheeky singles into the bargain. This was followed up by an excellent display by ‘the Brothers
Briggs’ who formed an equally strong partnership, and
latterly the rest of the team. Top marks for the day go
to something un-cricket related however, and I am so
pleased with the boys’ behaviour when waiting to bat,
as well as in the field, where the team where so much
more on the ball this week. This has been something of
a learning curve, and I am so proud of everyone for
showing such good manners and behaviour.
