Digest has named SXM as one of the
Top 10 destinations in the Caribbean
for Bird Tourism. It highlights SXM
as a “A hot spot for migrating sea
birds with a burgeoning bird watching
scene. Visitors to the annual Migratory
Seabird Festival can enjoy guided
tours to the island’s 164 species in a variety of locations
and learn more about the birds through local
environmental organizations." Specific mention is also
given to the national bird of St. Maarten, the Brown
Pelican : " You won’t need your binoculars to spot St.
Maarten’s national bird, the Brown Pelican—it can be

Edition of their BIRDING WORKSHOP.

Let's introduce you to our readers, tell us your age, where
you're from and how you got that DJ name ? Are you royalty ?
DJ Prince : Ha ! No ! Hey everyone, well my aunty would call me
"her Prince" as I was her first nephew so it stuck ! I'm 21 years
old and born and raised in Marigot.
W : So what music do you play ?
DJP : Mainstream dance, Reggaeton, Hip Hop, Soca, Dancehall,
Zouk. Anything that gets your feet moving.
W : And you've played some big sets haven't you ?
DJP : Yes, Ladies Night at Tantra is always big and French side
Carnival last year was unreal !
W : How did you get involved in DJing ?
DJP : I've grown up around musical people. My aunts were Gospel
singers and my great grandad was a disco DJ in England.
W : What's the best thing about what you do ?
DJP : I love it ! Discovering new music, sharing it with everyone,
the challenge of mixing different genres and I
love meeting new people when I play.
W : Who are your influences ?
DJP : My manager, he helps develop my
skills and is a great mentor. Other DJ's like
Manny aka NINJA and DJ EM, they are very
very good at what they do.
W : What dreams for the future ?
DJP : So many ! I've got to play with DJ
Wrookid & DJ Angelo ! Playing in Miami, Paris,
London there is so much great music there. I want to get to the top !
W : Great ambition ! Describe yourself in one word.
DJP : (laughing) err...handso... (laughing) i'll say fun.

Rudely Awoken
A nearby « Boom ! » and shaking walls jolted me into
consciousness from a deep, dreamy and happy sleep.
Startled I tried to comprehend what was happening.
« Boom ! Boom ! Boom ! » The noise was unbearable and
the entire apartment vibrated. Was it an earthquake ? Had
World War 3 started ? Were the noisy neighbours arguing
again ? No, it was the roaring bass of J'ouvert morning at 6
in the morning !? "What the hell is J'ouvert ?" I asked my half
asleep girlfriend. It turns out it was the launching of Carnival
and an alarm clock for the whole community, no one could
sleep through that booming party. No point in complaining, if
you can’t beat them join them I thought. I got dressed, went
outside to grab a beer and joined in J'ouvert, waving my
beer in the air jamming behind a truck loaded to the top with
speakers just quickly tied together, loud jump up music, and
marched along with the crazy crowd all around town.
