June 2013 - The Veterinary Centre
Henley Vets News: June 2013 The Newsletter of The Veterinary Centre, Henley and Twyford The Veterinary Centre is pleased to be supporting Petlog's tenth annual National Microchipping Month in June. Microchips will be available at the very much reduced rate of £10.00 per pet. Microchipping your pets brings many benefits, not least peace of mind for you. If they are lost, stolen or injured, the chance of their being reunited with you is very much higher and even in the worst case scenario, where a pet is found dead on the road, at least the owners can be informed rather than being left in that dreadful limbo of never knowing what happened. Add to this the cost savings to local authorities in the kenneling of strays, and the ability to identify with certainty repeat offenders amongst the dog population and, equally importantly, to eliminate the unjustly accused and it seems to us an unequivocally a sensible thing to do. Shiny Clean Teeth for the Summer - at a reduced price. Dental disease affects one in three dogs and cats and we see a constant stream of dental problems in the surgery. To encourage better dental health in our patients and to help your purses and wallets - in July and August all dental procedures will be offered at a reduced price. Cats £130 and dogs £175. This fixed price includes: The anaesthesia. All the dentistry - including extractions if required. Any medicines your pet is sent home with. The days accomodation Interested? Ask at reception or speak to one of our vets or nurses. Catch of the day! Congratulations Emma Clark A small dog is not what you'd normally expect to find on the end of a fishing line but that's what was presented to us at The Veterinary Centre a few weeks ago. Little Archie was bought in by his dog walker with a portion of what looked like line leading to his front right foot. A closer look revealed it was indeed fishing line and poor Archie had trodden on the attached fish hook which was embedded in the webbing between two toes. Fish hooks come in various types and consist of a sharp point & usually a barb which prevents the fish from escaping. Trying to pull a hook out without knowing what type it is can be potentially damaging so Archie had a quick anaesthetic and it was safely removed by vet Gemma with no after effects. If your pet is unfortunate enough to get snagged by a fishing line please by very careful before attempting to remove any hooks and take him/her to the vets if you've got any doubts. Huge Congratulations to Emma and husband Wayne on the birth of their daughter. Isabella Grace was born on Friday 3rd May 2013 at 21:41pm, weighing 5lb 12oz. She is the little sister of Joshua, Ryhan, Bryony and LillieMaye. Mum and Baby are both doing fine. Welcome Kaz and Alyson Kaz French (top right) and Alyson Preston have recently joined us as Receptionists to cover for Emma and Vanessa who, most inconveniently, both fell pregnant at the same time! Emma has had her baby (above) and Vanessa's is due in early July. Alyson was press-ganged into applying for the the job by vet Amy, who attends the same pottery classes as Alyson.
