Don McLean and Judy Collins
Dave Mason’s Traffic Jam
Few performers have
stood the test of time
as well as Don McLean
and Judy Collins. Don
McLean has had a
long and successful
songwriting and
performing career. In
fact, American Pie is
widely considered one
of the top songs of the
20th century. A virtuoso
of a variety of vocal styles, Don can – and does – inspire a range
of emotions with his singing. Judy, too, began inspiring audiences
with her sublime vocals, vulnerable songwriting and commitment
to social activism. Five decades and 50 albums later, Judy, who
began her impressive career at 13 as a piano prodigy, remains
a vigorous writer and performer of songs that create hope and
healing and speak to the heart. She also stays active in social
causes. Don and Judy will ensure that audiences enjoy a “starry,
starry night.”

“The best ABBA tribute band in the world,” according to the Official
ABBA Fan-Club, ABBA The Concert pays homage to the beloved
anthems of one of the greatest pop phenomenons in music
history, performing such hits as “Dancing Queen,” “Fernando” and
“Mamma Mia.” From their note-perfect vocals to their stunningly
accurate look-alike portrayal, Sweden’s ABBA The Concert is the
closest to ABBA you’ll ever get!
These Golden Boys emerged from the same South Philadelphia
neighborhood at the same time, and went on to become three of
the most popular teen idols of the late ’50s and ’60s. The show
spotlights each of the performers and their greatest hits, including:
“Venus” (Avalon); “Volare” (Rydell); “Turn Me Loose” (Fabian). The
three stars combine their talents on several songs and perform a
tribute to the material of Elvis Presley, Bobby Darin, Rick Nelson
and Bill Haley. Come share the memories.
With his upcoming
tour, Alton Brown
brings his brand of
quirky humor and
culinary-science
antics to the stage.
The two-hour
show is a unique
blend of stand-up
comedy, food
experimentation,
talk show antics,
multimedia lecture,
and, for the first time ... live music. Audience interaction is
strictly enforced throughout the evening, though if you’re called
upon as a culinary assistant you’ll definitely want to take the
lab coat Brown offers, as things tend to get messy. Brown has
worked his weird magic on live audiences across the nation for
over a decade but this is the first time he’s actually hit the road

Bob Hope gave Anthony Benedetto his first big break. In 1949,
Bob saw young Anthony sing and visited him after the show. Bob
invited Anthony to sing with him at a later date, adding, “We’ll
call you ‘Tony Bennett.’” Now, decades after “I Left My Heart In
San Francisco” (1961), Tony still performs to grateful fans and
audiences. In 2011, to celebrate his 85th birthday, he released his
Duets II, whose contributors included Aretha Franklin. The album
debuted at number one on the Billboard Album Chart, making
Tony the only artist at 85 to achieve this honor. He is truly an
American classic.
Born in Chicago,
noted for his diversity
of music, Ramsey
Lewis began taking
piano lessons
at 4. He started
captivating fans
in 1956, with The
Ramsey Lewis Trio’s
first album. By 1965, he was one of the country’s most successful
jazz pianists and topped the charts with “Hang On Sloopy” and
“The In Crowd.” Ramsey, who has three Grammy Awards and
seven gold records to his credit, continues to perform across the
U.S. and abroad with his quintet. Philip Bailey, a longtime member
of Earth, Wind & Fire, has won seven Grammys. A guest vocalist
and percussionist with The Ramsey Lewis Electric Band, Philip
performs his repertoire of R&B, soul, gospel and funk.

Moscow City Ballet
Swan Lake
Joshua Bell, Violin
Audra McDonald
Monday, March 23 at 8 pm
Moscow City Ballet is
currently at its artistic
best – winning new
invitations to perform
internationally. Swan Lake
is a signature piece of the
group’s entire repertoire.
The choreography and
virtuoso performance
repeatedly wins rave
reviews. Tchaikovsky’s
“big story ballets” are the
essence of Russian culture.
Moscow City Ballet is renowned for the perfection of its corps de
ballet and in the best traditions of the Russian school of classical
dance. The company’s productions, as well as older versions
of classical ballets, set high performance standards with their
clearly defined style, ideas and choreographic integrity. Seeing a
performance by the Moscow City dancers never fails to add that
magical ingredient of Russian soul.
One of the most celebrated violinists
of his era, Grammy winner Joshua Bell
is one to champion new works and
new experiences. He is comfortable in
the role of soloist, chamber musician
recording artist and orchestra leader
and even performed incognito
underground for a landmark experiment
for the Washington Post about art and
context. The article won the writer a
Pulitzer Prize and the story caused an
international firestorm of discussion.
That conversation continues thanks in
part to the publication of the illustrated
children’s book The Man with the Violin. Bell, who began playing
at age 4 – plucking tunes on rubber bands he stretched around his
dresser-drawer handles, today performs on the 1713 Huberman
Stradivarius.
Broadway legend Audra
McDonald made history
when she scored a sixth Tony
Award – more than any other
actress – for her portrayal of
Billie Holiday in Broadway’s
Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar &
Grill. Blessed with a luminous
soprano voice, the Live From
Lincoln Center host is also a
two-time Grammy Awardwinner: a major concert and
recording artist, who regularly
appears on the great stages of the world. From Broadway and the
opera house to television and film, her versatility and breadth are
virtually without compare.

The Temptations
and The Four Tops
Saturday, April 4 at 8 pm
The Temptations enjoyed their first major success with 1964’s
“The Way You Do The Things You Do.” During the late 1960s
and early ’70s, their style and songs changed to reflect the
social and political upheaval; among them, “Cloud Nine.”
Today, the group is as relevant as ever, and Otis Williams, one
of the five original members, still performs. In 1964 The Four
Tops experienced their first Motown hit with “Baby I Need Your
Loving.” Their songs, soulful and bittersweet, were across-theboard successes including, “I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie,
Honey Bunch),” one of Motown’s longest-running chart toppers.
The Four Tops were inducted in 1990 into the Rock and Roll
Hall of Fame.

Chris Botti
In the ’50s, growing up in
small towns, Boz Scaggs
recalls, “I was swept away
by music and radio.” His
passions included blues,
R&B, rock and jazz. After
performing throughout Europe
in the 1960s, Boz returned
stateside and had several
solo Top 20 hit singles
during the ’70s, including the
million-selling “Lowdown.”
After a hiatus from singing
and songwriting in the 1980s
(“I just didn’t have any music
in me”), Boz started the ’90s
with what he calls his career’s
“chapter two.” Since then, he
has enjoyed a successful run, thanks to his trademark sound and
his sincere respect for a wide variety of American roots music.
Versatile trumpeter Chris
Botti has recorded and
performed alongside
Barbra Streisand, Yo-Yo
Ma, Andrea Bocelli
and Frank Sinatra. He
has performed with the
finest symphonies, and
at some of the world’s
most prestigious concert
halls. Chris’ success –
including four number-one
jazz albums and a 2013
Grammy Award for Best
Pop Instrumental
Album – has even
crossed over to audiences
who usually prefer other
genres of music. His expressive sounds and his soaring musical
imagination are why Chris has sold more than 4 million albums and
established himself as one of the most innovative figures in the
contemporary music world.

Woody, the man alone…. Hardly! Woody Allen is synonymous with women. In every one of his films, in
every article, in every photo he is and always has been with a woman. In his personal life from Louise
Lasser to Soon-Yi, and in his auteur’s life from Diane Keaton to Scarlett Johansson, he has devoted
himself to the complexities of women in love. Lee Wolf and Julie Gilbert return to investigate the highs
and lows of Woody Allen’s personal and creative life and how the two converge.

A Kravis Center Cultural Society Event
Monday, March 16 at 11:30 am
Breaking away from a stringent family of means to pursue an acting career was the first of many triumphs
in a life that deemed Grace Kelly true aristocracy – from Philadelphia society to Hollywood stardom to
European royalty – her final role as that of Her Serene Highness, Princess of Monaco.
Join Lee Wolf and Steven Caras in a revealing conversation through which the real Grace Kelly emerges –
an icy-eyed, hot-blooded icon who pulled those signature white gloves over many an eye during the naive
1950s when one assumed all girls from ‘good’ families were in fact, good girls.

The Music Of The Brill Building
Thursday, February 19 at 7:30 pm
Based on one audience suggestion (a title for a play that has yet to
be written), The Improvised Shakespeare Company creates a fully
improvised play in Elizabethan style right before your very eyes.
Nothing has been planned out, rehearsed, or written. All of the
dialogue is said for the first time, the characters are created
as you watch, and if ever you’re wondering where the story is
going ... so are they! “Staggeringly brilliant, downright hilarious.”
– Time Out Chicago
From the Brill Building,
in Times Square, came
the sound of America in
the 1950s and ’60s. The
songs – written by Carole
King, Neil Sedaka, Neil
Diamond and others –
changed popular music
and became, in many
cases, iconic. “Breaking
Up Is Hard To Do,”
“Where The Boys Are”
and “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow?” all came from the
“music factory.” Even decades later, those writers continued
to top the charts. Now, vocalist Scott Coulter tells you the
music – and the stories – of the singers and songs that
defined a generation.

to Broadway with Where’s Charley?, The Most Happy Fella,
How to Succeed in Business. And by this time he’d joined the

words and music. You’ll hear all of this ... and more in More of

DakhaBrakha is a quartet from Kiev whose sound is at once
mesmerizing and mystical, melding soulful Ukrainian folk melodies
with jazz and trance sounds. Aptly named, DakhaBrakha means
“give/take” in the Ukrainian language. Mixing the fundamental
structure of folk music with free-form improvisation and minimalist
influences, this theatrical quartet of multi-instrumentalist singers
creates a magical world of unexpected and engaging new music
with Indian, Arabic, African, Russian and Australian instruments.
Pavement, a dance event created by Kyle Abraham, pays homage
to the bold, backward-jeans and high-top-fade era of ’90s hip-hop,
while examining a culture plagued by discrimination, genocide,
and the constant quest for a way out. Inspired by John Singleton’s
groundbreaking film Boyz N The Hood (1991) and essays of
W.E.B. DuBois’ The Souls of Black Folk (1903), Pavement uses
movement to depict scenes of violence, love, male bonding,
arrests, and physical and emotional pain. The piece is set to an
amazing soundtrack that mixes Philippe Jaroussky’s operatic
score, Carestini: The Story of a Castrato, with the sounds of
the city.

I’m in Love with Vienna
Robin Spielberg’s enchanting
piano performance will
celebrate the songs, spirit
and moods of the season
through music and stories.
Her compelling melodies,
expressive technique and
her story-telling about the
origins of the music enrapture
audiences. Robin’s career
at the piano has taken her
from coast to coast. She
has performed on PBS and
CBS TV, at the Weill Hall at
Carnegie Hall and throughout
South Korea where she
is a bonafide “piano star.”
With sixteen recordings and over a million CDs sold, her diverse
discography is popular around the world, and includes The Great
American Songbook, holiday arrangements, original neo-classical
piano solos, Americana and lullabies. “Reflective piano, smart
originals.” - The Washington Post
In his new show I’m in Love with
Vienna, Steve Ross explores
the fascinating connections
between the Viennese and
German composers and the
American Songbook. Everything
from operettas by Franz Lehar,
Emmerich Kalman and Robert
Stolz in English translation, to
songs by the great Viennese-born
composers like Sigmund Romberg
and Frederick Loewe; to spoofs
of the genre by Dietz & Schwartz
(“I Love Louisa”) and Cole Porter
(“Wunderbar”), and songs by Jerome Kern, Johnny Mercer and
other composers influenced by the Viennese tradition. Included will
be a special salute to the most prolific (and most Americanized)
of the musical immigrants and refugees, Kurt Weill (“September
Song,” “Speak Low”). “Steve Ross is the undisputed monarch of
Manhattan cabaret.” -The Huffington Post

a story of American-dream
limitations as it is a masterful
multi-media experience.

Gavin, thrilling arrangements
include “Stormy Weather,”
“Honeysuckle Rose” and “Yesterday When I Was Young.” “Stormy
Weather is magnificent, gripping.” – Liz Smith

For more than 20 years, the Kravis
Center has helped students of all ages
fuel their imaginations and expand
their lives through comprehensive arts
education programs. Last season,
nearly 45,000 children from Palm
Beach, Broward, Martin, St. Lucie and
Okeechobee counties attended
performances, such as Stuart Little,
presented by the Dallas Children's
Theater in Dreyfoos Hall, through the S*T*A*R (Students and Teachers Arts Resource)
Series. The Center's Admission Waiver Program ensures that no child is denied access
to a performance based on ability to pay. Also last season, about 3,000 adults attended
ArtSmart continuing education classes and lectures, with topics ranging from Marilyn
Monroe to Cuban folklore music.
The innovative Kravis-On-The-Road series takes performances from the stage to
the schools and to off-site venues such as the Dolly Hand Cultural Arts Center in
Belle Glade, which last season hosted Step Afrika!, the first company devoted to
the African-American ritual of stepping. The Center spends over $100,000 a year on
field-trip transportation so that Palm Beach County schoolchildren can attend
performances. The Center also provides many opportunities for young performers to
interact with visiting artists, such as Master Classes, ArtScholars and Kravis On
Broadway Student Workshops, and the newest addition, The Broadway Artists
Intensive. The three-week summer course, which requires an audition for admission,
immerses 75 career-track students ages 12 to 20 in acting, voice and dance with
seasoned professionals of the Great White Way. Another training program is the
De George Academy for Performing Arts, which delivers dance, theatre and vocal
performance instruction to economically disadvantaged children in third through sixth
grades, along with coaching for students who may want to attend an arts-based high
school or college. Since opening in
1992, the Kravis Center has provided
access to the performing arts for
approximately 2 million schoolchildren.
Learning is a lifelong endeavor at the
Center, which offers Beyond the Stage
pre-performance discussions with arts
experts as well as The Writers' Academy
at the Kravis Center, a series of sessions
designed to develop and nurture adult creative writing skills. Professional Development
Workshops, meanwhile, provide teachers with tools and instructional strategies that
can be used to integrate arts into the other academic areas of the curriculum.
"I believe arts education in music, theatre, dance and the visual arts is one of the most
creative ways we have to find the gold that is buried just beneath the surface," former
U.S. Secretary of Education Richard W. Riley has said. "(Children) have an
enthusiasm for life, a spark of creativity and vivid imaginations that need training –
training that prepares them to become confident young men and women."
The Kravis Center offers this essential arts training to students of all ages and
economic levels, along with exposure to world-class entertainment and acclaimed
performers. To learn more, please call the Education and Community Outreach
Department at 561-651-4251 or visit the Kravis Center's official website, kravis.org,

The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd
Thursday, January 8 at 1:30 pm
The Invention of Wings is based on a true story about two
extraordinary women living in slaveholding Charleston, S.C. in
the early to mid-19th century. Sarah and Angelina Grimke defy
the boundaries and laws that rob both women and the slaves
who serve them of their freedom and inalienable rights. Their
courage and resilience cause them to become pariahs in both
their community and far beyond, reviled by slaveholders and
abolitionists alike. Kidd embellishes the tale by fictionalizing
two other strong, resourceful women, Charlotte and Handful,
mother and daughter who are slaves in the Grimke household.
Their rebellion against the forces that brutalize and enslave them
will enflame and move you. This novel of love, hate, friendship,
alienation, inhumanity and heroism is truly inspirational. Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

A jury gathers in Manhattan to select a memorial for the victims of
a devastating terrorist attack. Their fraught deliberations complete,
the jurors open the envelope containing the anonymous winner’s
name – and discover he is an American Muslim named Mohammad
Khan. Instantly they are cast into roiling debate about the claims of
grief, the ambiguities of art, and the meaning of Islam.
Their conflicted response reflects the trauma and conflict within
the country.

Ifemelu and Obinze are young and in love when they depart
military-ruled Nigeria for the West. Beautiful, self-assured Ifemelu
heads for America, where despite her academic success, she is
forced to grapple with what it means to be black for the first time.
Quiet, thoughtful Obinze had hoped to join her, but with post-9/11
America closed to him, he instead plunges into a dangerous,
undocumented life in London. Fifteen years later, they reunite in
a newly democratic Nigeria, and reignite their passion – for each
other and for their homeland.

officers from the West Palm Beach Police Department to ensure that traffic moves in
a quick, orderly and safe manner. Please follow the directions of the officers and

STUDENT & EDUCATOR
RUSH TICKET PROGRAM
In addition to providing educational opportunities through the arts, the Kravis
Center has deepened its commitment to make its self-initiated presentations
(marked in bold in the Calendar of Events section) even more accessible to
students and educators. By presenting a student or educator ID at the Kravis
Center Box Office one hour prior to the performance, students/educators will
receive up to 50% off any section ticket (excluding Premium Seating and
Kravis On Broadway presentations) from orchestra to rear balcony, based on
availability. For more information and specific prices, please call the Box Office
at 561-832-7469.

are final. Tickets for Kravis Center presentations (marked in bold in the Calendar of
Events section) that you are unable to use may be donated to the Kravis Center’s
annual fund as a tax-deductible contribution, provided they are returned to the Box
Office at least 24 hours in advance of the performance.
For Kravis On Broadway presentations, we are not able to accept tickets for a tax
deductible contribution due to contractual restrictions. However, Kravis On
Broadway subscribers can exchange tickets for another performance of the same
show within the subscriber week only, based on availability. Return your tickets to
the Box Office prior to the opening night of the show.

performance time. Theatre doors open thirty minutes prior to curtain. Latecomers

The Kravis Center facilities are accessible to persons with disabilities, assuring a
pleasurable performance experience.

order. Kravis Center wheelchairs are free of charge and are also available on a
first-come, first-served basis. For on property use only.

performance of Kravis On Broadway presentations. Intended to allow deaf or hard
of hearing audience members to more fully enjoy Broadway performances, Live
Performance Captioning (or open captioning) is a text display located on either side
of the stage that scrolls words in synchronization with the performance. Specially
reserved seats for people with hearing loss will be issued on a first-come,
first-served basis. Those in need of the service should alert the Box Office when
ordering tickets. Sign language interpreters are provided at the first Sunday matinee
performance of Kravis On Broadway presentations.
Large Print Programs
Large print programs are available for all Kravis Center presentations. The large
print programs may be picked up at the Guest Services Station located in the lobby.
