DECEMBER 2010
LOOKING AHEAD
Remy’s successful introduction to the world of road
racing at Albacete in the NSF100 Worldwide Mini Bike
race in October, and at Phillip Island a few weeks
ago has fuelled
both
his
and
Luca’s desire to
enter the sport as
soon as possible.
Team Gardner is
now considering
opportunities for
Remy tests RACC Pre GP 125
Remy to race in
Metrakit at Parkmotor in Spain
the
Mediterranean
Championship of Speed (CMV) and Metrakit Pre GP
125 Catalan (Spain) Championship in 2011. Remy
would travel with Wayne to Spain from Australia with
a view to moving to Spain in 2012 if all goes well.
Meanwhile in Australia, Luca will embark on his
introduction to road racing utilising the Moriwaki
chassis with a modified engine to 70cc in the under
13 age group, and in between Spanish races Remy
will compete on the Moriwaki 80 in the 13 – under 16
category. All of these races are in Victoria or
Queensland and will require a great deal of travel.
The Australian road racing segment of Team
Gardner’s 2011 calendar will greatly depend on
national and international event timing.
Dirt track racing will still feature heavily if possible to
ensure Remy and Luca maintain the skill that Wayne
believes will give them a long-term advantage over
the European riders. And of course Wayne will
continue to train both boys on and off the track to
improve their riding skills and race craft, as well as an
understanding of engineering, and bike knowledge.
We hope to finalise plans for our 2011 campaign by
January so watch this space…
Team Gardner proudly acknowledge
their valued sponsors
Team Gardner take out trophies at Phillip Island, Sydney Speedway,
and a Club Championship presentation, all within a week
Team Gardner’s last two races for 2010 were an overwhelming
success. On the weekend of 3-4 December, Remy unexpectedly took
home the title of 2010 MRRDA (road race) National Nippers Champion
for under 13 years; and last Saturday night, under lights, he won the
MAW Christmas Dirt Bike Super Prix at the Tyrepower Sydney Speedway
in the 85cc 2-stroke to150cc 4-stroke class in his age group. Luca also
took home a first place trophy from the Christmas Dirt Bike event after
a convincing win in the 6-lap final – a great Christmas present for Team
Gardner, and a very positive finish to the year.
Throughout the year, Remy and Luca competed in the Central Coast
Junior Motorcycle Club competition with Remy riding at five out of
seven Club Day races, and Luca competing in three. Yesterday Remy
had accumulated enough points to win the Club Championship on his
Honda CR85 in the 85cc 2-stroke to 150cc 4-sroke class for 11 – under
13 years. He proudly accepted his trophy at the Club Christmas party
and presentation day.
2010 has been an incredibly rewarding year, and not just because of
the number of trophies on the shelves. All the hard work, training, and
dedication to their sport has really paid of for Remy, Luca and Wayne.
The plan to develop race craft within the Dirt and Longtrack arena has
really proven successful grounding for road racing, and Wayne’s
personal training schedule introducing the boys to tar (starting with
their dirt bikes on go-kart tracks and moving to larger circuits on the
Moriwakis), has also established a solid foundation for their future.
The next few years promise to provide a great deal of excitement and
experience for Team Gardner and we hope our sponsors and
supporters will continue the journey with us. In the meantime, thanks
as always for your help and interest in Remy and Luca’s racing pursuits.

DECEMBER 2010
FOOTNOTE…
By Wayne Gardner
We’re finally at the end of 2010 and what a hectic
year it’s been. We’ve come away with some
great results after a lot of hard work, but it’s
certainly been worth it.
My most nervous moment of the year was Remy’s
first road race at Albacete. He’d never raced on
a circuit that size, or with a reverse gear pattern,
so I didn’t know if I’d over-stepped the mark by
allowing him to compete. Once I saw him mixing
it with the international kids, I knew he could
handle it and my nerves were reasonably
calmed!! The highlight for me was seeing Rem
race and perform so well in his Australian road
race debut at Phillip Island – you can see the
older competitors chasing him down over Lukey
Heights in the photo to the left. The most exciting
race this year came when Luca took victory by
1,000th of a second at Sydney Speedway in
August, proving his ability to himself and
developing his confidence.
We’re about to embark on a huge journey as
Remy and I prepare ourselves for a year of
travelling to Europe and Luca dips his toe into
road racing locally. Remy is more determined
than ever to establish a career in road racing,
and I believe his dedication, determination and
skills combine for a potentially successful future.
We are well aware we couldn’t have done it, and
can’t continue to do it without the dedicated
support of our sponsors and supporters, and
therefore sincerely thank you for being part of
Team Gardner. We wish you a very Happy
Christmas and a great 2011.
