I had read reviews and heard other librarians recommend this book, but it wasn’t until I picked it up and started to read it that I understood why all the reviews had been so outstanding. This story enlightens and teaches and opens our minds, eyes and hearts. Is it just for children to read? No. All of us can learn something from reading Wonder. This is a story about a boy named Auggie who is about to start fifth grade after being homeschooled for years. Auggie was born with severe facial anomalies and has had 27 surgeries to correct them. His face is described as being melted. August tells the reader about his face: “My name is August, by the way, I won’t describe what I look like. Whatever you’re thinking it’s probably worse.” You will meet his parents and sister, his friends and teachers, and even the bullies. Enjoy the journey with Auggie as he finds his way during his school year. It will touch your heart, it will make you cry, and it will make you think. Cut out & save!
