1 - Magnum Failla Hirsch Vineyard Pinot Noir 2013
100
estimated value: $200
This is a fascinating set of wines from Failla and Ehren Jordan. With this many
selections of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah, what comes across is an excellent
representation of the year. After 5 years of creating cult-worthy Zinfandel for
Turley Wine Cellars, winemaker Ehren Jordan & co-owner Anne-Marie Failla
launched Pinot powerhouse Failla Winery. Ehren’s vinous past also includes
working in (and drinking through) the Rhone as an apprentice to Jean-Luc
Colombo. This would prove to be time well spent honing his craft and developing
a passion for cool climate viticulture.
Donated by Failla Wines

1 - bottle Araujo Estate Eisele Vineyard Syrah 2006
Earning 93 points from Robert Parker, the 2005 “displays an attractive meaty
character along with smoky blackberry fruit and a hint of charcoal. Soft and
lush with French-like elegance as well as complexity, and a delicious, long, supple
finish, it will be drinkable over the next 7-8 years or longer.” Of the 2006, Robert
Parker noted, “The sexy, opulent, floral, blackberry and black currant-scented and
flavored, medium to full-bodied 2006 Syrah Eisele Vineyard displays a seductive
quality that is hard to ignore. I would opt for drinking it over the next decade.”

1 - Magnum Donelan Obsidian Vineyard Syrah 2013
107
estimated value: $300
96-100 points from Robert Parker! From the winery’s website, “Obsidian
Vineyard has always yielded a magnificent wine, but 2013 raises the bar for sheer
irresistibility. What is compelling about this wine isn’t its abundance of fruit, but
the unique balance of aromas: peat moss, leather, anise and mocha. This wine’s
palate is where richness and fullness meet minerality and structure, creating an
exciting wine, enjoyable even in its youth and for many years to come. If this
exceptional wine wasn’t exciting enough, as they were finalizing the 2013 blend,
the Donelan family purchased Obsidian Vineyard. They are thrilled to now call
this special site “home” and to toast to their very first estate vineyard.”

6 - bottles Nickel & Nickel John C. Sullenger Vineyard Cabernet
Sauvignon 2004 in Original Wooden Box
109
estimated value: $530
The home vineyard of Nickel & Nickel, Sullenger Vineyard is situated behind
the winery in the heart of Oakville and named for John C. Sullenger who settled
the farmstead in the 1880s. The vineyard’s 30 acres of clay loam soil are planted
exclusively to Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine focuses on ripe fruit flavors of
plum and cherry with hints of blackberry, deepening its flavor and complexity.
Notes of coffee and herb, coupled with sweet, toasty oak, add to the finish. There
is considerable volume in this wine, combined with graceful tannins.

1 - Magnum Shafer Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon 1984
111
estimated value: $500
“Shafer’s Hillside Estate Vineyard consists of 54 acres all on steep, amphitheaterlike, rocky outcroppings and knolls. It receives the full benefit of southeasterly
sunlight, and enjoys the afternoon breezes that blow up from the San Francisco
Bay channel. An unusual geographic feature, this vineyard is basically a box
canyon. The top soil is virtually non-existent as the bed roots that go into the
white tofu volcanic soil base rarely extend more than 18 inches before hitting
bedrock. This no doubt is a significant reason for the intense flavors achieved by
the Hillside Select Cabernet Sauvignon.” -Robert Parker

1 - bottle Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port 1992
115
estimated value: $250
Rated 100 points from Robert Parker: “Taylor’s 1992 Vintage Port is unquestionably
the greatest young port I have ever tasted. It represents the essence of what
vintage port can achieve. The color is an opaque black/purple, and the nose
offers up fabulously intense aromas of minerals, cassis, blackberries, licorice,
and spices, as well as extraordinary purity and penetration. Yet this is still an
unformed and infantile wine. If Chateau Latour made a late-harvest Cabernet
Sauvignon, I suspect it might smell like this. In the mouth, the wine is out of
this world, displaying layer upon layer of concentrated black fruits backed by
well-integrated tannin and structure. This is a massive, magnificently rich, fullbodied port that will be far more flattering in its youth than were such Taylors
as the 1983, 1977, or 1970. It possesses awesome fruit, marvelous intensity, and
lavish opulence, all brilliantly well-delineated by the wine’s formidable structure.
This monumental 30-50 year port is a must-purchase for port aficionados!”

1 - bottle Vinsobres Les Cornuds Famille Perrin 2010
Along with Bordeaux and Burgundy, Rhone Valley wines are some of the world’s
greatest red wines. The Northern Rhone produces powerful, aromatically complex
and ageworthy red wines, generally in very limited quantities, from the noble
Syrah grape. The Southern Rhone is a nearly bottomless source of somewhat
more rustic and often even richer blends based on the high-alcohol Grenache
grape, in a style that can only be described as more “southern” in flavor--that is,
Rhone wines offering a richer mouth feel, a more roasted and sometimes liqueurlike fruit character, and notes of wild herbs and spices.

Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam
124
estimated value: $800
Enjoy a two-night stay for two in a Superior Room at Sofitel Legend The Grand
Amsterdam. The Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam is an historical site and
in quite a unique manner, the history of Amsterdam is reflected in the past and
present of the building. There were originally two convents here, St. Cecily’s
Convent at the northern part of the property and St. Katherine’s Convent to
the south. The Grand was built in three sections, as is still evident from the
two courtyards and central element, and in its design one can detect the basic
structure of the two convents. The tiny tower perched so pertly on the north side
of the rooftop is reminiscent of St. Cecily’s Convent founded here in 1411.
Amsterdam was a city filled with monasteries and convents. On old maps of the
city, you can pick them out by their courtyards and walled gardens, always marked
by a chapel. Even in the 20th century, their remains are still in evidence in the
floor plan of The Grand, in the patterns of several other parts of the city, and
in any number of street names in this vicinity.Your stay includes complimentary
access to the swimming pool, sauna, and steam bath at SoSPA. You will also
enjoy breakfast for two in Restaurant Bridges inspired by Ron Blaauw.
Reservations required. Not valid on December 31, 2016. Expires April 30, 2017.

oak flavors. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.” – winemaker notes

Brooklyn Slate Company, Slate Cheese Board and Wooden Cheese Knife
Brooklyn Slate Company is a collaborative effort from Brooklyn graphic
designer Sean Tice and Parsons graduate student Kristy Hadeka. After visiting
Kristy’s family slate quarry in upstate New York in the spring of 2009, the two
grabbed a few pieces for use as all-purpose boards back home in Brooklyn.
They found a number of purposes for the slate — as trivets for tea kettles and
hot dishes to coasters for beers — and began gifting pieces to friends. The
response was so overwhelmingly positive that the two struck out to produce a
line of slate products. You’ll be all set for a night of wine and cheese with this
party-ready duo!

estimated value: $180
1 - bottle Château d’Issan 2008
1 - bottle Château Pontet Canet 2008
The 2008 Château d’Issan received 92 points from Robert Parker, who called it
“a wonderful success of the vintage [which] exhibits a dark plum/garnet/purple
color as well as abundant aromas of flowers, Asian spices, jammy plums and
black currants. Broad, savory and medium to full-bodied with sweet tannin and
an evolved, already delicious, complex style, this cuvee will age nicely for 10-15
years.” The 2008 Château Pontet Canet earned 96 points and rave reviews from
Robert Parker as “a candidate for the ‘wine of the vintage,’ [which] boasts an
opaque purple color as well as copious aromas of sweet blueberries, blackberries
and black currant fruit intertwined with lead pencil shavings, subtle barbecue
smoke and a hint of forest floor. Full-bodied, with fabulous richness, texture
and tremendous freshness. Give it 5-8 years of cellaring and drink it over the
following three decades. Bravo!”

6 - bottles Mitolo ‘Serpico’ Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
131
estimated value: $300
“The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Serpico (100% McLaren Vale fruit) was treated
like Amarone with the grapes picked relatively underripe and green, then dried
for seven weeks before they were fermented. The result is a distinctive, fullbodied Cabernet with no pruny or raisiny characteristics whatsoever. Its fresh
acidity and lively backbone support a wine of enormous richness and intensity,
offering up classic crème de cassis notes intermixed with white chocolate, damp
forest, cedar, and toasty oak. Full-bodied, opulent, powerful, and totally dry,
with a sweet, rich mid-section.” 94 points -Robert Parker

Sojourn Cellars Package
200
estimated value: $625
1 - Magnum Sojourn Cellars Rodgers Creek Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014
Sojourn Cellars Comparative Tasting Seminar for Up to Ten Guests in Sonoma
Sojourn Cellars produces terroir-driven wines from exceptional vineyards around
the North Coast of California. Rodgers Creek Vineyard is well-suited for growing
Pinot Noir. It sits high on a ridge right in the heart of the Petaluma Gap and
takes the full brunt of wind and fog that define this cool climate zone. The vines
grow in light, chalky volcanic ash soils on steep inclines. This causes natural
vine stress and gives the wine high concentration levels. In the resulting wine
is a fabulous expression of the vineyard site and its unique soils. It is a showy
wine - very expressive and forward, with smooth textures and a lingering finish.
Distinctive aromas of mushroom and soy overlay layers of red fruit flavors, earth
and hints of rosemary. After enjoying the 2014 Pinot Noir, it’s time to plan your
trip to Sojourn Cellars in Sonoma and experience the Sojourn experience for
yourself! This unique, private wine tasting features flights of single vineyard and
appellation Pinot noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay served in elegant
Riedel stemware and shared in a relaxed, intimate setting.

1 - bottle Ogier Clos de l’Oratoire des Papes Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2007
“Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s wide array of aromas and flavors are reminiscent of
a Provençal marketplace while its texture—rich and round, sumptuous and
opulent—is virtually unmatched by most of the wines of the world. Châteauneufdu-Pape is a remarkably flexible wine with food, in part because it suits so much
of today’s Mediterranean-influenced cooking, while the absence of new oak
in many Châteauneufs means they can be enjoyed alongside an even broader
range of lighter dishes such as fish, veal, and poultry. But the greatest appeal
of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, beyond its food-friendly qualities, expansiveness,
generosity of flavors and sumptuous texture, is the almost addictive attraction
of its combined intellectual and hedonistic elements. That’s what attracts me
the most and undoubtedly accounts for Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s rapidly growing
popularity.” -Robert Parker

203
estimated value: $190
“The 2008 Barolo Vigna del Gris is gorgeous. Layers of dark red fruit, flowers,
spices and minerals emerge as the wine opens up in the glass. The 2008 possesses
lovely mid-palate pliancy and juiciness, along with beautifully integrated tannins
and exceptional polish. Floral notes add lift and brightness. I particularly like
its energy. This is an especially open vintage for the Vigna del Gris. It will be
delicious over the next 10-12 years, give or take.” 93 points - The Wine Advocate.

limited and can be difficult to find, joining ‘the List’ guarantees your allocation.
For years, vintners have coveted a stretch of land in the western end of Santa
Barbara’s Santa Rita Hills AVA known to have the perfect microclimate, soils, and
exposure to grow world-class Pinot Noir. In 1999, fulfilling a long-held dream of
owner Bob Davids, this sought-after stretch of land became Sea Smoke Vineyard.
Sea Smoke’s unique combination of sun, fog, soil and meticulous farming result
in top quality Pinot Noirs that are lush, elegant and expressive. Sea Smoke is one

Martinez has no historical association with any one quinta. Instead, the grapes are
sourced mainly from the Pinhão and Rio Torto valleys, where many small farmers
produce top quality fruit which they sell to the Symingtons. Charles Symington,
head winemaker, said that without the tie to a specific quinta and terroir-driven
style, Martinez is an opportunity to “just have some fun making interesting,
satisfying wines” from the grapes supplied to us by small producers.

1 - 3L Paul Hobbs Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 2013
209
estimated value: $265
Paul Hobbs Winery sprouted from the passion of one man: Paul Hobbs. Paul wasn’t
satisfied just becoming Head Enologist of Robert Mondavi’s Opus One in 1981, or
becoming Vice-President/Winemaker of Simi Winery in 1989. No, he wanted to
create his very own grapes, on his own land. This passion led to the creation of
Paul Hobbs Winery in 1991. Highlighting the terroir of the Russian River Valley,
this deep ruby colored wine has aromas of cherry, raspberry, cola, forest floor and
vanilla. Rich and round in the mouth, the fine tannins and fresh acidity give a
long, generous finish. Commended by the 2015 Decanter World Wine Awards and
awarded Silver in the 2015 International Wine & Spirit Competition.

some of California’s most cherished wines. Their wines are available by mailing

2011 stands out for its pure balance. A touch of botrytis-inflected sweetness adds
an exotic flair on the close. This is a highly representative example of Sonoma
Coast Chardonnay. The Cabernet Sauvignon is gorgeous in this vintage, boasting
striking depth, radiance and balance, all in the mid-weight style of the year.” For

1 - bottle 500 ml Marqués de Griñon Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Picual
Curtis Stone “Go with The Flow” Polished Stainless Steel Olive Oil Can, 24-Ounce
Marques de Griñon is an 800-year-old estate in the region of Toledo, now led by
Carlos Falcó and his daughter Xandra. Inspired by his time studying at UC Davis
in the 1970s, Carlos returned home to Spain where he became a pioneer of modern
viticulture in Spain. He was the first to plant Syrah and Petit Verdot in Spain
and is recognized as a well-known producer of top quality pago wines. Olive oil is
one of Carlo’s great passions and he has spent many years and many resources to
obtain the highest quality extra virgin olive oil. Under Xandra’s direction, Marques
de Griñon has developed into one of the top olive oils in the world. Awarded
98 points from Flos Olei for the second year in a row, Marques de Griñon was
also celebrated as mill of the year in 2013. The close attention to detail and the
exacting standards of the Falco family have resulted in a truly exceptional olive
oil. Named “Duo,” this oil is a blend of two of Spain’s most famous olives. This
extra virgin Olive oil is a blend of 90% Arbequina and 10% Picual, made with olives
that are fully ripe to give it a fruity aroma with hints of almond and banana. It is
delicate and balanced with a mild intensity and length. The aromas of Marques de
Griñon oil are exceptionally vivid and bold with notes of green tomatoes, verdant
grasses, and artichoke and almond. Its finish is pleasantly pungent, revealing the
oil’s freshness. Use this splendid oil generously to adorn favorite recipes that call
for an anointment of extra virgin olive oil. To preserve the oil’s properties, keep
in a cool place away from direct light. The timing of the harvest and the types of
olives used to make Marques de Griñon is critical for obtaining top-quality oil.
The harvest lasts for only five or six days, and the olives have a high antioxidant
activity that helps preserve the integrity of the oil. Duo is a Gold Medal winner at
the 2013 Los Angeles Olive Oil Competition!

Ready for a little Bordeaux trivia courtesy of The Wine Cellar Insider? Château
Bellevue in St. Emilion is known to have great terroir. The ancient Romans were
aware of this. In fact, when walking the vineyards, it’s easy to spot remains of the
original plantings left by ancient Roman vintners. Château d’Angludet, is one of
the oldest Bordeaux wine properties. In fact, Chateau d’Angludet can be traced
all the way back to 1150! One of the few Bordeaux chateaux with three words in
their name. Château Haut-Bages Libéral came across its unusual moniker for very
simple reasons. The property is situated on the hills of Bages, a tiny area between
Pauillac and St. Julien. Liberal is the name of the family that owned the chateau
during the 18th century. With only twelve hectares, (a huge increase from their
previous 8 hectare size) Château Ferriere is the smallest 1855 Classified Medoc
Bordeaux property. Now time to drink!

1 - bottle Clos Fourtet 2003

estimated value: $125
98 points from Robert Parker: “This magnificent wine, which is just beginning
to come into full maturity, boasts an inky/purple color as well as copious
notes of blackberries, licorice, violets, and a striking chalky minerality. Fullbodied, voluptuously textured and stunningly pure, this great Bordeaux is
one of the vintage’s superstars. The finish lasts 40-45 seconds in this majestic,
multidimensional St. Emilion. It should continue to drink well for 10-15 years,
but why wait?”

1 - bottle W.H. Smith Maritime Pinot Noir 2007 Sonoma Coast
In 1989 Walt and Joan Flowers, with great expertise in agriculture and nurseries,
turned their attention and passion to the beautiful Sonoma Coast and its perfect
position for growing both Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Their success in this
venture is quite well known in the wine collector world now, and they produce
some of the most striking Sonoma wines around. Matt Taylor has winemaking
pedigree. He started his domestic winemaking career as the assistant to Rod
Bergland at Joseph Swan, later getting the top job at Araujo Estate and now
making wine for Reuling Vineyard in addition to making the wines for his
eponymous label starting in the 2006 vintage. The Small Vines is described as
“Brilliant red. Sexy aromas of raspberry liqueur, potpourri and smoky minerals,
with an Asian spice flourish adding complexity. On the palate, vibrant red fruit
and floral pastille flavors put on weight with air while maintaining vivacity. This
silky, approachable pinot noir finishes with excellent clarity and smooth, wellknit tannins that contribute shape.” International Wine Cellar 91 points The 2007
Terrano Cali has a deep purple hue, the wine jumps out of the glass with aromas of
wild blackberries and forest brush as well as earthy notes and deep toasty mocha.
The W.H. Smith received 94 points from the Wine Enthusiast, “This has been a
great bottling from W.H. Smith, and it is the most interesting and complex of the
winery’s current releases. Very dry, its elegantly silky structure frames intricate
flavors of baked cherry, cherry skin, red currant, root beer, licorice and cedar,
with an elaboration of Asian spices and a sprinkle of cocoa. Really fascinates as
it changes in the glass.”

237
estimated value: $300
“The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Serpico (100% McLaren Vale fruit) was treated
like Amarone with the grapes picked relatively underripe and green, then dried
for seven weeks before they were fermented. The result is a distinctive, fullbodied Cabernet with no pruny or raisiny characteristics whatsoever. Its fresh
acidity and lively backbone support a wine of enormous richness and intensity,
offering up classic crème de cassis notes intermixed with white chocolate, damp
forest, cedar, and toasty oak. Full-bodied, opulent, powerful, and totally dry,
with a sweet, rich mid-section.” (94 points) -Robert Parker

Original, Framed, 300-Year-Old Map of Southwestern France
304
estimated value: $600
An original, framed, 300-year-old map of southwestern France published
around 1715/20 showing the areas of Gascony, Guyenne, Gironde and a part of
Languedoc. The map was produced by Guillaume Delisle (1675-1726), one of
the most important French cartographers of the time, and published by Pierre
Mortier. Delisle would serve as the Royal cartographer to the King of France and
also produce some of the most important maps of America during his time.
This map shows various châteaux and vineyards in the Bordeaux region, as well as
the area that produces Armagnac. This is an early edition of the map and carries
a greater value than those published later in the 18th century. A great piece of
history for anyone loving France and wine!

and 2012 vintage of three great Hall Wines. Hall Wines pride themselves on
being leaders in innovation, while being cognizant of their beginnings. The 2012
Bergfeld received 93 points from the Wine Spectator, “Offers pure, rich, explosive
fruit, with tiers of blackberry, wild berry, cherry and spice flavors, delivering
touches of black licorice and cedary oak. Glides along with a touch of toasty
oak and espresso, tightening on the finish. Drink now through 2027.” The 2012
Kathryn Hall received 97 points from Robert Parker, “Dark and dense, this is
sourced from the winery’s own Sacrashe property in the hillsides of Rutherford,
as well as Bergfeld Vineyard. The wine has a concentrated and jammy quality
that doesn’t step over the edge. It offers anise, blackberry, black currant and
dried herb around a soft, rounded mouthfeel and long finish. Enjoy through

Pungo Wine Preserver
309
estimated value: $330
The Pungo is the world’s premier wine-preservation system for by-the-glass
consumption. Pour wine directly through the cork via a patented two-chamber
needle that allows wine to flow out as medical-grade argon displaces it. Wine stays
perfectly preserved indefinitely. The Pungo provides a smooth yet responsive flow,
operates at very low pressures, and serves more than twice as many bottles per
argon cartridge as the closest competition. Even better, it does all this while not
venting wine volatiles during operation. The Pungo works with both synthetic
and natural corks, as well as screw-cap bottles. Sealing pins (included) allow
an unlimited number of bottles to be preserved and stored concurrently. These
pins provide a proper seal instead of relying on the cork to re-seal itself. Made
of the highest-quality materials available, the Pungo is designed for commercial
environments and will provide years of trouble-free service.

that has impeccable balance and knockout length. While I’ve a slight preference
for the 2010, the 2007 has fabulous mid-palate density and an incredibly polished
mouthfeel that’s hard to resist. It too is drinking well now, but will have 15 to 20
years of overall longevity when all is said and done.” (95 points) -The Wine Advocate

Though Noval made its reputation in the 1930’s by having arguably the most
sensational Port of the 20th century, the fine wine has been produced here since
1715 and today still exhibits the quality, character, and noble flavors unchanged for
centuries. Port expert, Richard Mayson describes the 1975 as “pale-to-mid garnet
colour with a broad, browning rim; very open, sweet and soft in the mouth.”

Dinner and Excess with Theise in Boston
314
estimated value: $1,200
You and a guest will enjoy dinner with Terry Theise at a restaurant in Boston,
complete with rare wines from Terry’s private cellar. Terry Theise has been a wine
importer and writer for thirty years. His first love is German Riesling which was
once a staple at the finest tables in America but had been largely forgotten when
Terry began working with a group of small German growers in 1985. Twenty
years ago he discovered vastly underappreciated and underrepresented Grüner
Veltliner, Riesling, St. Laurent, Blaufränkisch (and even more obscure varieties)
from top growers in Austria. Due in no small part to Terry’s work, the landscape
of Austrian wine in the United States has shifted from nonexistent to classic,
noble, and necessary. A decade and a half ago his love of honest and compelling
wines from small growers brought him to Champagne. Terry assembled a portfolio
of Grower Champagnes – a category that then hardly existed – and it remains
today without equal. Terry’s approach is vastly divergent from that of many of
his colleagues. The growers he works with and the wines he selects must speak to
something genuine and real beyond their basic flavor. His wines have in common a
distinct character, a point of view, vitality, and a voice. They express the land, the
grower, and the time in which they were made. These wines convey to the drinker
a sense of beauty, harmony, meaning, and above all pleasure. While in Boston you
will stay for one night in executive classic accommodations with breakfast for
two at the XV Beacon, which is centrally located on Boston’s historic Beacon Hill.
Date to be mutually agreed upon by Terry Theise and the auction winner.

EMH Vineyards Black Cat Magnum Trio

estimated value: $650
1 - Magnum EMH Vineyards Black Cat Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
1 - Magnum EMH Vineyards Black Cat Cabernet Sauvignon 2009
1 - Magnum EMH Vineyards Black Cat Cabernet Sauvignon 2012
EMH’s vineyard is situated on the valley floor near Pickett Road in Calistoga, just
east of the Silverado Trail. Pocketed by the Palisades Mountains to the north and
Diamond Mountain to the south, the tiny vineyard of just under an acre produces
outstanding Cabernet Sauvignon fruit. It enjoys the climate of its more well-known
neighbors including Araujo’s Eisele Vineyard, Frediani Vineyards, and Kenefick
Ranch. EMH’s owner, Merrill Lindquist purchased the property in 1999, fulfilling
a dream to own a country house surrounded by vineyards. From the 2000 harvest
she kept a half-ton of grapes, and had them crafted by into EMH’s first wine. It was
named “Black Cat” after Sparkles, the black cat who shares the property with the
owner and her daughter Emily. The remaining tonnage was sold to another winery.
That wine was placed in a double-blind tasting at Jim Gallagher’s Wine Seminars of
San Francisco, and it placed ahead of many high profile Napa Cabernets. A decision
was made to stop selling grapes to other wineries, and to reserve all EMH grapes for
an increased production of “Black Cat” wine. With the required time in the barrel and
bottle, it was only with the 2003 vintage that production reached one hundred cases.

5 - bottles Heitz Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 1985
320
estimated value: $1,250
94 points from Robert Parker, who noted the “explosive richness and ripeness, as
well as gobs of sweet fruit presented in a full-bodied, powerful style” of this 1985
Cabernet Sauvignon. Ready to enjoy now!
If you were an oenophile in the 1970s, you may still have that hypnotic bouquet of
eucalyptus imprinted in your memory. The smell, of course, belonged to Heitz’s
Martha’s Vineyard Cabernet, a wine whose rich, opulent palate would have made
it legendary, even had its nose not been so distinctive. First made by Joe Heitz in
1966, Martha’s Vineyard was arguably the most coveted Cabernet at the birth of
modern California wine. And after the great 1966, magnificent vintages in 1968,
1970, 1974 and 1985 secured Martha’s position as the finest of its generation. Here
is your chance to get one of those magnificent vintages!

1 - bottle Moschioni ‘Celtico’ Rosso Colli Orientali del Friuli 1999

estimated value: $200
“A prodigious offering is the 1999 Celtico Rosso (a blend of 60% Cabernet
Sauvignon and 40% Merlot) and the 1999 Pignolo (100% Pignolo). It may be
expensive, but it is a blockbuster effort of extraordinary richness and intensity.
The 1999 Celtico Rosso, which spent 15 months in French oak before being bottled
unfiltered, came in at an amazing 15% alcohol, all of which is hidden by layers of
concentrated blackberry and creme de cassis fruit. Smoky graphite, floral, and
pain grille notes emerge from the bouquet. The wine possesses a terrific entry, a
multi-dimensional mid-palate, and a finish that lasts for nearly 40 seconds. This
corpulent, concentrated yet incredibly well-balanced heavyweight should drink
well for 15 years. It is a tour de force.” (94 points) -The Wine Advocate

this large-scaled, voluptuous wine. Though a bit wild at the outset, the Ganymede
finds a more finessed, refined level of expression with time in the glass. There
is plenty of personality and sheer character in this powerful, deep Cabernet
Sauvignon. Anticipated maturity: 2017-2029.” 94 points - The Wine Advocate

Porron Demonstration for Six at Estadio
estimated value: $250
326
In case you haven’t seen the dramatic Spanish drinking vessel known as a porron,
it’s glass with a handle and a spout, and you’re supposed to drink out of it without
touching it with your lips. Experts are able to tip their heads back and pour the
liquid into their mouths, pulling the porron away (about an arm’s length) while
continuing to pour, and then bring it back toward the mouth again. It can get a
bit messy for newcomers! But you and five of your best friends will learn how at
Estadio, a fun, convivial restaurant serving contemporary Spanish cuisine in the
Logan Circle neighborhood of Washington, DC. Estadio’s wine program includes
over 250 labels, more than 90% of which are Spanish, so this is the perfect place
to learn the ways of the porron! We believe that you will all walk away as porron
masters. Plus, you will be able to practice at home, as each guest will receive a
porron to take with them as a souvenir.
Mutually agreeable date.

1 - Magnum Dalla Valle Vineyards Maya 2012
estimated value: $900
328
98 points from Robert Parker! “Dalla Valle was the first winery to demonstrate
what heights Cabernet Franc could reach in the valley with their Maya proprietary
blend, which averages 50-55% Cabernet Franc and the rest Cabernet Sauvignon.
The 2012 Maya is a spectacular offering. The 2012 Maya is already revealing great
complexity with notes of forest floor, licorice, truffles, red and blackcurrants and
a hint of graphite. The beautiful aromatics are followed by an equally majestic,
full-bodied, multidimensional wine of great class and elegance. This sensational
effort should drink well for 25-30 years.”

1 - 3L Joseph Phelps Insignia 2007
333
estimated value: $800
99 points from Robert Parker! “One of the top Insignias yet produced.” “Aged 24
months in new French oak, this infant 2007 exhibits an inky/purple color along
with notes of graphite, spring flowers and smoky oak. This full-bodied, classic
Insignia reveals fabulous depth, ripeness, texture, viscosity and richness. Still
young and unformed, it should evolve for 25 or more years. Perhaps I should
just go ahead and give this 2007 a three-digit score as it is a profoundly great
Cabernet Sauvignon-based effort. The production was 13,500 cases of this 100%
estate fruit blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot.
The alcohol came in at 14.5%. The growing season was nearly ideal, with early bud
break, generous flowering, a bountiful crop size, and summer weather that was
warm and dry with no significant heat spikes.”

We are so excited that Greg Miller, Estate Director of Flowers Vineyards &
Winery, is here for his first Heart’s Delight! We hope you have an opportunity to
meet him and taste the Sea View Ridge Pinot Noir and the Camp Meeting Ridge
Chardonnay that he brought with him tonight. Here is your chance to take home
a magnum of the Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, which is described by the winery as
having a “deep garnet hue. Aromas of wild strawberries, cranberries, savory dried
herbs, violet and forest floor lift elegantly from the glass. On the palate, flavors
of Bing cherry, raspberry, and pomegranate are framed by fine-grained tannins,
coastal minerality and bright acidity that culminate in a lengthy finish.” 2013 was
a wonderful growing season along the Sonoma Coast!

Ribbon Ridge 2007

“Deep red with a bright rim. Pungent aromas of red and dark berries, Asian spices
and musky herbs. Broad, fleshy dark berry flavors gain freshness with air and
pick up notes of allspice and candied rose. Manages to be both rich and lively,
finishing with excellent energy and lingering spiciness. This really hangs onto the
palate.” – 92 points Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar
