RTG TV broadcasts home-made, high-quality content in both English and Russian. Through engaging documentary films, RTG TV gives a wider perspective on Russian history, culture, cuisine, nature and open-air adventures. With never-beforeseen documentaries available only on RTG TV, viewers can take part in challenging breakthroughs in the discovery of unexplored locations. The schedule is updated weekly with diverse regional and cultural perspectives covering nature, the animal world, active holidays, hunting and fishing, cruises and tours, city walks, people, culture, religion, history, ethnography, cuisine, science and technology, resorts. There are no ordinary programmes, with subjects ranging from a profile of championship-wining rally driver Ilona Nakutis to the history of the native people of the remote Kamchatka peninsula. RTG TV has a goal of presenting one of the world's most mysterious countries, the culture of which provokes interest and attracts tourists throughout the world. Presenters are drawn from a range of backgrounds, including former restauranteur Timojef Zudin, actress and journalist Ludmila Shiryaeva, St Petersburg radio presenter Diana Pylaeva, the fearless Igor Maximenko, actor and fishing enthusiast Igor Vukolov, travel journalist, writer and radio host Irina Pudova, and musician and petrol-head Andrej Ivanov. The long-term project of the channel's owners, Bridge edia, is to produce documentaries about the CIS and former Soviet Union Countries, as well as dubbing into different languages, with a Turkish version expected to launch in 2011. RTG also hopes to localise films for Latin America, the Middle East and Asia, and will soon become an encrypted pay-TV channel on Hot Bird. Hundreds of channels from around the world enter this annual competition, judged by an independent panel of media experts and recognised at a gala ceremony in Venice. Eutelsat, Europe’s leading satellite operator, created this event in 1998. Russian Travel Guide plants its flag at the North Pole 30°W Iberian operator Hispasat began 2011 with the arrival of its newest and largest satellite, Hispasat 1E, which will take up duties at 30°W in spring. It’s the third generation of satellites at this position, and will continue to be backed up by Hispasats 1C and 1D as it covers Spanish and Portuguese-language markets in Europe and the Americas.
