They even fried bananas. 5 “Why are all our foods yellow?” asked the children. “Oh,” said Mrs. Peabody, “I didn’t realize that!” 6 So the children cooked some more. 7 They mixed strawberry jello. 8 They baked cherry pie. 9 They sliced tomatoes. 10 They even polished juicy apples. 11 “Why are all our foods red?” asked the children. “Oh,” said Mrs. Peabody, “I didn’t realize that!” 12 So the children cooked some more. 13 They creamed spinach. They simmered pea soup. 14 They stuffed grape leaves. They even prepared pistachio ice cream. 15 “Why are all our foods green?” asked the children. 16 “Oh,” said Mrs. Peabody, “I didn’t realize that!” 17 And the very next day, the children didn’t pop popcorn or churn butter or scramble eggs or fry bananas. They didn’t make jello or bake pies or slice tomotoes or polish apples. They didn’t cream spinach or simmer pea soup or stuff grape leaves or prepare ice cream. 18 But they did eat lots of food, food that was yellow and red and green. What do you think they did? 19 Mrs. Peabody and all the children who loved to cook went out to the pizzeria to eat big, round pizza pies. 20 21 The pizzas were covered with lots of yellow cheese, lots of red sauce, and lots of little green things. 22 By the way, some children picked off the little green things. They picked off the little green olives. They picked off the little green onions. And they picked off the little green peppers. 23 And Mrs. Peabody promised that forever more the children who loved to cook would cook foods of many colors. Well, what do you suppose they cooked next? 24 Join the children in Mrs. Peabody’s class as they cook up something wonderful!
