On Saturday, we met in downtown Louisville for a ride on
the Bell of Louisville, the legendary Lady of the River. It
was a two hour cruise on the Ohio. The wind was a little
breezy depending on which side of the boat we were on –
there was some moving around from outside to inside and
lots of coffee was consumed. The boat trip was followed by
lunch at Joe’s Crab Shack. It was a fun weekend and the sun
finally came out on our return trip home.

Louisville Tour/Overnight Sept 12th & 13th
By Sandy Miller
Last Friday was a cool morning with possibility of rain so
we had a mixture of old cars and newer ones. We met at
McDonald’s in Versailles and had a great surprise when
Mary Fettig arrived to go with us on the trip. So good to see
her!
Upon arrival in Louisville, we had lunch at Another Place
Sandwich Shop where we had soup and sandwiches. Then it
was on to the museums all within walking distance. We had
the choice of the Louisville Slugger Museum, Frazier
History Museum, KY. Museum of Arts and Crafts, KY.
Science Center, and the Muhammad Ali Center. We then
traveled on to the Kentucky Derby Museum located at
Churchill Downs.

Ah-ooo-gah Garage

Diana Hanks’ 1930 Ford Model A four door sedan blind
side. After sitting for over 3 ½ years, we had to drain all the
old gas, about 10 gallons. And then refill with fresh new
gas. We had to let some of the new gas drain through the
carburetor in hopes it would clean the stuck needle valve.
Then I filled up the radiator with 50/50 blend antifreeze.
Filled up all four tires to 35 psi., put in the new battery. For
those who do not know where the battery sits, like myself,
well I learned it sits under the leg area of the driver’s side
under the floorboard, and I do mean “board” like in wood.

This itself was a major undertaking. Then after oiling the
distributor, throttle linkage, the choke linkage. It was time
to see if the car would start. After several attempts to crank
the engine over while John Blair pulled the choke and
worked the hand throttle with the engine cranking for a
while she fired and started up and was running smooth. I
was a very happy camper, or should I say now an ecstatic
“Model Aer”. I want to thank Diana for giving me the
opportunity and having the trust in me to get my “hands
dirty” on a fine automobile. Also, want to thank John Blair
for his guidance and expertise.
