Multiculturalism as Anti-white Racism: [1] South West England
TS_research_3.pdf 1 of 46 Multiculturalism as Anti-white Racism: [1] South West England Tony Shell This report gives details of research into how agencies of the UK State, and allied agencies, collaborated with those working for the imposition of two very different forms of extreme ideology: global Islamic jihad; and ‘no borders, no nations’ anarchist-Marxism. This particular research concentrates on such activities within one part of the UK – South West England (including the cities of Plymouth, Exeter and Bristol). The research shows that it is a shared, endemic political culture of extreme, anti-white (i.e. anti-European) racism that motivates that extraordinary, collaborative effort. It is therefore contacts between local representatives of the UK State, and representatives of extreme forms of Islamic theocratic rule, that provides the starting point for this report. th On the 15 December 2013 the Plymouth Islamic Education Centre – based within the PIETY (Plymouth Islamic Educational Trust) Plymouth mosque – was officially opened. Prominent amongst those attending the opening ceremony was Mr Oliver Colvile MP (the Conservative Party Member of Parliament for the Sutton and Devonport constituency, Plymouth). 1 2 3 The principle guest was Dr Muhammad Bin Abdul Kareem Al Issa, the Saudi Arabian Minister of Justice. PIETY is known to have nurtured links with Islamists – individuals who in the past have expressed highly controversial and provocative views regarding the advancement of Islam. The business group Green and Chambers - led by Abdur Raheem Green, and contracted by PIETY to manage the fundraising for the Plymouth mosque - has been linked to the Saudi-based, supremacist Islamic group, the World Assembly of Moslem Youth (WAMY). 4 5 6 7 8 This (as will be shown later in this report) is found to have special significance given that Abdur Raheem Green has also been seen as especially prominent in proselytizing fundamentalist forms of Islam both within the UK and other European countries. 9 10 In 2005 an Australian newspaper reported that Abdur Raheem Green had appeared on a DVD, saying: “The birth rate in the Western countries is going down. People are more interested in their careers ... they don't want to have babies ... So don't you think, Muslim brothers and sisters, we've got a bit of an opportunity here? They're not having babies any more. So what if, instead, we have the babies? In Canada one in three or one in four children being born is a Muslim. What does that do to the demographic shift of a Muslim population in 20 years' time? To say I'm going to have two or three children and that's it -that's not allowed. The way we overcome the people is through our numbers.” 11 This is seen as a call for population replacement, within all “Western” countries. st © Tony Shell 1 January 2015 Multiculturalism as Anti-white Racism: [1] South West England TS_research_3.pdf 2 of 46 Abdur Raheem Green was denied entry to Australia in 2005. 12 The following year another Australian newspaper reported that a DVD, being circulated within the Muslim community in Australia, contained various exhortations by Abdur Raheem Green, including: “If we leave (Muslims) in these (non-Muslim Australian) schools they will be destroyed. … You know very well what takes place in these schools ... it is all about evolution, Christmas, Easter, St Valentine's Day - a barrage. And you expect your children to survive? You think you live in a sewer and you come up smelling of roses? … Merely living in the company of evil people will inevitably begin to rub off on us and we will begin to acquire their characteristics.” 13 This is interpreted as a call for separatism. In March 2014 Mr Abdur Raheem Green proffered this piece of highly obnoxious anti-European bigotry to his fellow Muslims: “Take some time to remind yourself that within Europeans there exists a vicious, racist, supremacist, xenophobic undercurrent and read about Hitler's rise to power!” 14 Of course Mr. Green makes no mention of the millions of Europeans who gave their lives in the fight against Nazism and Fascism (nor the substantial military support that Islamic groups gave to the Nazis, throughout WW2). It is noted that the PIETY mosque in Plymouth has received substantial funds from unnamed sources within Saudi Arabia. 15 16 More recent research has revealed close links between: PIETY; the University of Plymouth Islamic Society (UPISOC); and a Wahhabist proselytizing group Islam Plymouth. 17 18 Indeed, there is strong evidence to show that these three groups (PIETY, UPISOC and Islam Plymouth) are engaged in a ‘joint enterprise’, for the purpose of promoting the extreme ideology of Salafist (Wahhabist) Islam. 19 20 21 The Imam for the PIETY Plymouth mosque is the hard line Salafist cleric, Sheik Abdur Rahman Dimashqiah. 22 In a study of the current conflict in Syria, a leading Swedish research institute provides this insightful description of Salafism: “In modern terms, Salafism is a strictly orthodox form of Sunni Islamism, inspired by theologians in Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states, and sometimes disparagingly known as ‘Wahhabism’ … They are often intolerant of other faiths, including non-Sunni Islamic minorities, and Sufism, and they generally shun nationalism and other non-religious ideologies. The so-called Salafi-Jihadi trend advocates global armed struggle (jihad) against the West and most contemporary Muslim rulers. Al-Qaeda is one such Salafi-Jihadi group, although there are many others.” 23 24 In a lecture to members of the University of Hertfordshire Student Islamic Society, in March 2012, the PIETY Imam Sheik Abdur Rahman Dimashqiah delivered a long tirade against “The West” for failing to launch military attacks upon Islamic moderates and secularists within Syria – and then proceeded to exhort students to support the Salafist insurgents “by your hands, and your donations”. 25 In another lecture - in which Sheik Abdur Rahman Dimashqiah again talked extensively on current events in Syria - it appeared his highly partisan position was based on his personal loathing for, and intolerance of, Shia Islam. He appears to have encouraged extreme fanaticism, stating: “[The] only solution [to Syria] is by those who seek death.” – whilst extending vituperative loathing to other “enemies”, including (and especially) Iran. 26 In January 2014 protestors attempted to prevent a representative of the Quilliam organization from st © Tony Shell 1 January 2015 Multiculturalism as Anti-white Racism: [1] South West England TS_research_3.pdf 3 of 46 attending a conference at the University of Plymouth. 27 Notably, Quilliam operates as extremism think tank”, in support of the Government’s PREVENT strategy. 28 a “counter- Yusuf Chambers, a spokesman for the UPISOC, and a prominent supporter of the anti-Quilliam protest, is known to be a trustee of the London based Islamic Education and Research Academy (IERA) – and is also closely connected to PIETY. 29 30 In recent years IERA has gained considerable notoriety for having links to extremist Islamic preachers; and in May 2013 University College London (UCL) banned IERA from its premises. 31 To this ‘joint enterprise’ – and to give an overall (albeit incomplete) picture of the manner in which Wahhabism was (and is) being promoted within Plymouth – should also be added the organization WAMY. Recent published material confirms the connections of this proselytizing network (PIETY, UPISOC, Islam Plymouth, IERA, and WAMY) to the Goodge Street Mosque, situated in central London. 32 The special interest is due to the Goodge Street Mosque serving not only as the UK/London headquarters for WAMY, but also for both the Muslim World League (MWL) and the Institute of Muslim Minorities Affairs (IMMA). It is known that Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab attended the Goodge Street Mosque in the period 2005 to 2008. It was also at that time that he served as the President of the University College of London Islamic Society (UCLISOC). And it seems it was during that period that he became radicalized. On Christmas Day 2009, whilst on a flight to the USA, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab attempted to murder the 289 passengers and crew by detonating a high-explosive bomb sewn into his underwear. 33 The Chairman (and trustee) of IERA is Abdur Raheem Green. In May 2014 the IERA organization was placed under investigation by the Charity Commission, following allegations that it was promoting extreme intolerance against non-Muslims. 34 In response to a query from the author, Devon and Cornwall Constabulary (DCC) recently confirmed that in May 2009 the radical Islamic preacher Abdur Raheem Green had been honoured with the DCC Chief Constable’s Good Citizenship Award Award “for his assistance he gave the BCU Commander at the time in monitoring public confidence and understanding the Muslim Communities of Plymouth”. 35 36 However DCC have also informed the author that they do not have a record of who recommended Abdur Raheem Green for that award, or who approved that decision. 37 The Plymouth context is therefore especially relevant. Testimony given at the Leveson Inquiry (2013) has indicated that the putative Exeter nail bomber (Nicky Reilly, May 2008) had been radicalized at the PIETY Plymouth mosque. 38 Notably the only (public) narrative - broadcast by both the police and main-stream- media - has only ever dealt with the matter of the (unidentified) persons, supposedly in Pakistan, who had given Reilly bomb-making instructions and suggestions for targets via the Internet. It is therefore obvious that, by then, Reilly had already been highly radicalized (in Plymouth). Actions by the local police, at that time, indicate that their priority was to ensure that no blame could be publicly attributed to PIETY, or to those connected to PIETY. It was therefore only after six days (after the attempted Exeter bombing) that anti-terrorism police searched the Plymouth mosque. Prior to the search the police had entered into discussions with the Director of the mosque, saying: “Devon and Cornwall st © Tony Shell 1 January 2015 Multiculturalism as Anti-white Racism: [1] South West England TS_research_3.pdf 4 of 46 Police will continue to work with the trustees of the community centre [the mosque] to ensure that disruption of the work of the centre is kept to a minimum”. 39 Therefore the suspicion is that DCC officers were under instructions to ensure that any possible evidence of criminal activities within the PIETY Plymouth mosque could be removed prior to a police search. So – given Mr. Oliver Colvile’s obvious obligations to his constituencies – should there be any particular concerns regarding his attendance at a PIETY-hosted event? st th In his declaration of interests, Mr. Colvile MP lists a visit to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on the 1 to 4 December 2012. His visit was organized and paid for by: Majlis As Shura, Shura Council of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, c/o Embassy of Saudi Arabia, 30 Charles Street, London W1J 5DZ. The declared purpose of his visit was: “as part of the UK Defence Forum delegation to gain an understanding of the political and security framework as related to the Saudi Government.” The cost of Mr. Colvile’s 3-day expenses-paid trip was estimated to be £6,600. 40 41 Mr. Colvile was granted an audience with His Royal Highness Prince Turki bin Faisal Al Saud, on the 3 rd December 2012. It is noted that from 1977 to 2001 Prince Turki bin Faisal served as the Director General of the General Intelligence Directorate (GID, ‘Al-Istikhbarat’) – the Kingdom's main foreign intelligence service. In 2002, Prince Turki bin Faisal was appointed Ambassador to the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland, and in 2005 he was appointed as Ambassador to the United States. 42 The special significance of this association will be explored later, within this report. Just one year after his trip to Saudi Arabia, Mr. Oliver Colvile MP voted in favour of the Government’s deeply unpopular (and illegal) motion supporting offensive military action by the UK, against Syria – albeit an action that undoubtedly would have pleased his recent Saudi acquaintance, Prince Turki al-Faisal. 43 44 In regard to support from Government agencies, for the establishment of numerous Saudi-funded, Salafist mosques within the UK; the context is the evidence of a long history of human rights abuses committed by the Saudi administration - and which even the UK Government acknowledges. 45 Notably, Amnesty International reported in 2012 that “At least 250 prisoners remained under sentence of death, including some sentenced for offences not involving violence, such as apostasy [a renunciation of Islam] and sorcery” and in 2013 noted that “The courts continue to impose sentences of flogging as a principal or additional punishment for many offences. At least five defendants were sentenced to flogging of 1,000 to 2,500 lashes.” 46 47 Others have commented on recent Saudi legislation that defines “acts of terrorism” to include expressing dissent, or protesting, against the Government. 48 Approximately eighty persons are executed each year by the Saudi authorities (by public beheading). However, of particular concern is the extensive evidence of connections between people and organizations within Saudi Arabia, and global Islamic terrorism. The focus is therefore on Saudi Arabia as both the ideological and the funding source of global Islamic terrorism. It is important to consider the historical background to events described within this report – and especially st © Tony Shell 1 January 2015 Multiculturalism as Anti-white Racism: [1] South West England TS_research_3.pdf 5 of 46 the Saudi and Gulf States’ financing of expansionist Islamist global jihad in various regions of the World, including: Western Europe; Eastern Europe; the Caucuses; North Africa; East Africa; and (most recently) Near Eastern countries, including Syria. This has occurred with the tacit support (at least) of the UK State, including allowing the UK to be used as a base for the export of Islamic terrorism. 49 50 It is only two years ago that leaks of US State Department cables were attracting the attention of mainstream newspaper journalists. 51 52 Contents of those classified cables, from the desk of Hillary Clinton, included such observations as: “… donors in Saudi Arabia constitute the most significant source of funding to Sunni terrorist groups worldwide.” 53 Within a 2005 report to the US Congress, by the US Government Accountability Office (GAO), there is this observation: “A number of sources have reported that Saudi private entities and individuals, as well as sources from other countries, are allegedly financing or supporting Islamic extremism. For example, in July 2005, a Treasury official testified before Congress that Saudi Arabia-based and-funded organizations remain a key source for the promotion of ideologies used by terrorists and violent extremists around the world to justify their agenda.” 54 The importance of this, in regard to events within the UK, cannot be overstated. The GAO report also included the observation: “In September 2004 the Secretary of State designated Saudi Arabia, for the first time, as a country of particular concern for its severe violations of religious freedom within its borders. The Department of State’s 2004 International Religious Freedom Report to Congress states that freedom of religion does not exist in Saudi Arabia and that basic religious freedoms are denied to all but those who adhere to Saudi Arabia’s sanctioned version of Sunni Islam.” 55 Since 2002 documents gathered by lawyers for the families of WTC/9-11 victims have provided evidence indicating extensive financial support for Al Qaeda (and other extremist groups) by members of the Saudi Royal Family. However the use of such material in US courts of law has been repeatedly subject to legal and diplomatic obstacles by the US authorities. 56 The events in Bosnia some twenty years ago also have particular relevance. Money to buy US involvement in Bosnia was provided by Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, Brunei, and Malaysia. From information inadvertently revealed by a Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), it is now known that payments from the US Treasury received by private military companies in the 1990s, for their work in Croatia and Bosnia - and on the authorization of the US State Department - originated from the coffers of Saudi Arabia, the Gulf States, and several far eastern countries. 57 In 1994 Ed Soyster, the Director of the DIA and a former executive of the private military company MPRI, remarked: “In this case, the money [for MPRI] came from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Brunei and Malaysia. It was a private contract with the US Ambassador in charge. When MPRI got a check [cheque], it was from the US Treasury.” 58 Elsewhere he was to say: We’re [the MPRI] teaching total military training. … In the case of Bosnia, which is a US-led project to satisfy this requirement for training and equipment, that money came from donor nations around the world. … Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Malaysia, Brunei, and Kuwait. … And our contract is with the Bosnian, directly with the Bosnian federation, but the funding is controlled by the State Department.” st © Tony Shell 1 January 2015 59 Multiculturalism as Anti-white Racism: [1] South West England TS_research_3.pdf 6 of 46 The end-result was to enable Islamic terrorist groups, such as Al-Gama’at al-Islamiyya, establish an effective foothold in the most unstable and volatile regions of Europe. 60 The strategy effectively implemented for Bosnia was for the ideology and money to be provided (mostly) by Saudi Arabia, and military assistance (including heavy weapons) to be supplied via the USA – whilst the motivation for young Muslims to join the ‘jihad’ was provided by the manner in which events in Bosnia were reported by the Western main-stream media (and the BBC, especially). 61 62 Therefore the similarities (of strategy) with recent events in Syria are seen as especially revealing. In addition to the funding of US agencies for such destabilization activities – from Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states – there is also the matter of funding provided via Islamic charities, by ‘relief agencies’, and by other international and supra-national organizations. In 2009 the UN Security Council published a report on branches of the Saudi Arabian based Al-Haramain Islamic Foundation, including those operating in Bosnia and Herzegovina, stating: “The founder and former leader of Al-Haramain Islamic Foundation, Aqeel Abdulaziz Aqeel al-Aqeel, and the Al- Haramain branches in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Somalia, Indonesia, Kenya, Tanzania, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Albania, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, the Netherlands, the Union of the Comoros, and the United States of America have provided financial, material and/or technological support to Usama bin Laden’s Al- Qaida network, including Jemaah Islamiyah, Al-Itihaad al-Islamiya/AIAI, the Egyptian Islamic Jihad, and Lashkare-Tayyiba. These terrorist organizations received funding from Al-Haramain and used Al- Haramain as a front for fundraising and operational activities.” 63 We have therefore seen, most recently, the blatant warmongering and aid to Islamic terrorist insurgency against targeted sovereign countries by the UK Government, in alliance with Saudi Arabia and other Gulf States (and, most notably Qatar). 64 65 It is, in particular, members of the House of Saud who have been at the forefront of that extreme agitation for inter-national and national (civil) conflict, and for the use of military intervention by the USA and other Western countries in (for example) Syria. In the context of events in Plymouth and Exeter, it is the organization World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) that is seen as being of special interest. Classified FBI documents show that the WAMY operations in the USA (led by Osama bin Laden relatives, brothers Abdullah and Omar bin Laden) were under investigation in the late 1990s. However in November 2001 ‘intelligence sources’ in Washington told the Guardian Newspaper that investigations had been effectively closed-down by the US Government. 66 67 Those same ‘intelligence sources’ revealed that the FBI had also been told to stop its investigations into other members of the Bin Laden Family (that is, other than Osama Bin Laden), the Saudi Royals, or into possible Saudi links to the acquisition of nuclear weapons by Pakistan. A key report by the Danish Institute for International Studies, published in 2006, used extensive governmental and judicial investigations from around the World to show the numerous connections linking WAMY to international terrorist organizations and terrorist financing. 68 WAMY has been banned in Pakistan; and it is reported that WAMY has been cited by the governments of st © Tony Shell 1 January 2015 Multiculturalism as Anti-white Racism: [1] South West England TS_research_3.pdf 7 of 46 India and the Philippines for involvement in the funding of Islamic militancy. 69 70 In 2011 the Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) revoked the charitable status of the Canadian branch of WAMY after it was discovered the organization had funded Al-Qaeda (in 2001). The CRA reported: “The audit findings did not reveal any apparent separation between the activities of WAMY (Saudi Arabia) and WAMY, with all related financial and operating positions being made by WAMY (Saudi Arabia) … This leads to a reasonable inference that WAMY has little or no independent function; therefore it cannot be concluded that it is carrying out its own charitable activities for which it is registered.” 71 72 Within the US Government GAO report is this observation on the historical context: “In the 1960s, funding of religious outreach activities overseas became a central feature of Saudi policy through organizations such as the Muslim World League and the World Assembly of Muslim Youth. Activities of these organizations include providing medicine and food and building mosques, schools, and shelters. The Saudi donations to support its aid efforts and the spread of its religious ideology come from public and private sources and are channeled through a variety of foundations and middlemen to recipients around the world.” [my emphasis] 73 The GAO report goes on to state: “In July 2003, a former State Department official testified before Congress that a Saudi-based charity, al Haramain Islamic Foundation, had allegedly financed assistance to the Egyptian terrorist group Gamma al Islamia. In May 2004, the same former State official also testified that some half dozen of the most visible charities, including two of Saudi Arabia’s largest, the International Islamic Relief Organization and the World Muslim League, have been linked to supporting Islamic terrorist organizations globally. In addition, a former Treasury official identified Wa’el Hamza Julaidan as a senior figure in the Saudi charitable community who provided financial and other support to several terrorist groups affiliated with al Qaeda operating primarily in the Balkans.” 74 Towards the end of the GAO report there is this concluding recommendation: “In July 2005, a State official testifying before Congress stated that the department continues to stress, in its discussions with the Saudis, the need for full implementation of charity regulations, including a fully functioning commission. The State official further stated that appropriate regulatory oversight of organizations headquartered in Saudi Arabia, such as the World Muslim League, the International Islamic Relief Organization, and the World Assembly of Muslim Youth, is absolutely necessary.” 75 Therefore the contemporary reference is seen in terms of the events in Ukraine, and the activities in the past few years (of promulgating fundamentalist Islam within that, and within other countries in the region) through the organization ARAID – and of the links of that organization to: the Muslim Brotherhood; the World Muslim League and the World Assembly of Muslim Youth. 76 77 78 Recent reports of Saudi Arabia moving Takfiri (Islamic jihadist) fighters from Syria to Ukraine are entirely credible, given the past Saudi involvement in the civil wars in Bosnia, Kosovo, Chechnya and Libya. 79 Given his position as Duke of Cornwall, and his holding of considerable property rights in the Duchy of Cornwall, obviously there has to be particular local interest in the relationship between HRH Prince Charles (as the Heir to the Throne of the United Kingdom) and radical Islam. It is therefore appropriate to look (again) at the local (South West England) context. st © Tony Shell 1 January 2015 Multiculturalism as Anti-white Racism: [1] South West England TS_research_3.pdf 8 of 46 HRH Prince Charles is the Patron of the UK-registered, Saudi-backed charity The Islamic Trust (The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies, OCIS). The 2005 accounts for The Islamic Trust show four persons of particular interest: HRH Prince Turki Al-Faisal (OCIS Trustee); Dr. Abdullah Omar Naseef (OCIS Chairman of The Board); Mr. Abdullah Gül (OCIS Trustee); and Dr. Yusuf Al-Qaradawi (OCIS Trustee). 80 81 Prince Charles has enjoyed a close, personal relationship with Prince Turki Al-Faisal – in addition to th contacts in an official capacity. On the 9 April 2005 Prince Turki Al-Faisal, together with his wife, were present (as invited guests) to the wedding of Prince Charles to Camilla Parker-Bowles. Other invited guests included Prince Bandar bin Sultan, the then Saudi Ambassador to the United States. 82 Indeed, it is very apparent that there has been a close, long-standing, relationship between many members of the UK Royal Family, and the Saudi Royal Family. 83 84 85 86 One of the more alarming developments concerned allegations (in 2013) of the involvement of Bandar’s GID in the Sarin gas attacks against Syrian civilians, in the Ghouta district of Damascus. Evidence (again, from seemingly credible sources) has been presented suggesting these were ‘false flag’ operations, originated from within Saudi Arabia, with the intention of persuading people in the West to support their governments’ calls for military intervention in Syria. 87 Obviously Plymouth, as a garrison city, would have been at the forefront of supplying equipment and personnel in any such intervention. In regard to legal documents submitted to a US court, in 2003 an Observer newspaper article reported: “[Mullah] Kakshar's statement also says that Turki [al-Faisal] arranged for donations to be made directly to al-Qaeda and bin Laden by a group of wealthy Saudi businessmen. 'Mullah Kakshar's sworn statement implicates Prince Turki as the facilitator of these money transfers in support of the Taliban, al-Qaeda and international terrorism,' the papers said. ... Turki's link to one of al-Qaeda's top money- launderers, Mohammed Zouaydi, who lived in Saudi Arabia from 1996 to 2001, is also exposed. Zouaydi acted as the accountant for the Faisal branch of the Saudi royal family that includes Turki. Zouaydi, who is now in jail in Spain, is also accused of being al-Qaeda's top European financier.” 88 In 2009 a New York Times article described how “A self-described Qaeda operative in Bosnia said in an interview with lawyers in the lawsuit that another charity largely controlled by members of the royal family, the Saudi High Commission for Aid to Bosnia, provided money and supplies to the terrorist group in the 1990s and hired militant operatives like himself. Another witness in Afghanistan said in a sworn statement that in 1998 he had witnessed an emissary for a leading Saudi prince, Turki al-Faisal, hand a check for one billion Saudi riyals (now worth about $267 million) to a top Taliban leader. And a confidential German intelligence report gave a line-by-line description of tens of millions of dollars in bank transfers, with dates and dollar amounts, made in the early 1990s by Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz and other members of the Saudi royal family to another charity suspected of financing militants’ activities in Pakistan and Bosnia.” 89 Prince Turki al-Faisal is one of the founders of the King Faisal Foundation and is also Chairman of the Board of the Prince Charles Visual Islamic and Traditional Arts Center (VITA) in the UK, as well as the cochair of the C-100 Group, which has been affiliated with the World Economic Forum since 2003. 90 Prince Turki Al-Faisal has been one of the more strident advocates for outside military intervention in the st © Tony Shell 1 January 2015 Multiculturalism as Anti-white Racism: [1] South West England TS_research_3.pdf 9 of 46 Syrian civil war. His more recent pronouncements have included the need for more military action – in particular of intense military bombardment by the West, and the supply of armaments from Western countries to insurgents, to supposedly counter the influence of Iranian backed groups. 91 92 93 94 Dr Abdullah Omar Naseef founded the Pakistan-based RABITA Trust (a subsidiary of the World Muslim League) in July 1988. 95 96 97 98 th On the 12 October 2001 the Trust was designated a global terrorist entity by the US Treasury Department, and its assets were frozen. 99 At that time the RABITA Trust was estimated to be holding some $400million in funds. A press release issued by the US Treasury department in September 2002 stated that the RABITA Trust had “provided logistical and financial support to alQa’ida.” 100 101 102 103 Dr Abdullah Omar Naseef is Vice-President of the Wahhabist Islamic organization, the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY). 104 105 WAMY, for very many years. 106 He has also actively worked to spread the worldwide influence of Such links are also to be found Naseef’s connections to the Saudi- publication The Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs (JMMA) – reportedly run under the management of WAMY. 107 The Saudi-based Institute of Muslim Minority Affairs (IMMA) was founded in 1979 by Abdullah Omar Naseef – who was, at that time, the Vice-President of Saudi Arabia’s King Abdulaziz University. 108 Therefore the starting point has to be an extremely important Islamic (Saudi/Wahhabist) manifesto: ‘The Efforts of the Servant of the Two Holy Places, King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz to Support The Muslim Minorities’ - which was originally commissioned by the late King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, of the House of Saud. The three main constituent parts of the IMMA are: the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY), the Islamic International Relief Organization (IIRO), and the Muslim World League (MWL). The interest in Abdullah Gül is in regard to the Islamist and Turkish Imam Fethullah Gülen (who fled Turkey to the US after attempting to overthrow Turkey’s secular government). In 1998, Fethullah Gülen relocated to the USA with a small army of followers, and purchased land in Pennsylvania’s Pocono Mountains as a base for his international operations. From this base Gülen, who had reportedly amassed over $25 billion in assets, directed the activities of the AKP throughout Central Asia and much of the Muslim world. Under his direction, Turkey was transformed from a secular state into an Islamic country with 85,000 active mosques, 90,000 imams, and thousands of state-run Islamic schools. In regard to the character and intentions of Fethullah Gülen, a confidential diplomatic cable from a US Ambassador to Turkey, written in 2009, gives some disturbing insights. The cable points out that the leaders of the Justice and Development Party (Adalet ve Kalkinma, or AKP), including Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and President Abdullah Gül, appear to serve as Fethullah Gülen “puppets”. 109 It is clear that Fethullah Gülen is especially favoured by both the Washington political establishment and by the US intelligence services. He has been hailed as an outstanding ‘educator’ by Graham Fuller and other CIA officials. st © Tony Shell 1 January 2015 Multiculturalism as Anti-white Racism: [1] South West England TS_research_3.pdf 10 of 46 Gülen has also established thousands of schools throughout central Asia and Europe. However, because of the subversive nature of these institutions, these schools have been outlawed in Russia and Uzbekistan. This, therefore, needs to be seen within the context of the considerable efforts both to incorporate Turkey into the EU, and the black-propaganda war being directed against Russia and (especially) the Russian President, Vladimir Putin. However there is currently considerable interest in efforts by the Turkish administration to follow a more independent foreign policy – to distant itself (to some extent) from the US/Saudi/Israeli axis, and to cultivate some degree of rapprochement with both Russia and Iran. Unsurprisingly, such moves have been vigorously opposed by the Gülenists. 110 Dr Yusuf Al-Qaradawi is the effective spiritual head of the Muslim Brotherhood. And again it is recent and alarming events that are of particular importance – that members and supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood have, in the last few years, been especially prominent in attacks against the Coptic Christian minority within Egypt. 111 112 113 114 115 Notably Dr Yusuf Al-Qaradawi has gained some notoriety for having expressed his support for cruel and diabolical forms of religious observance – including his pronouncements that the ritualized genital mutilation of infant children is a legitimate act. 116 In regard to contemporary events, of particular note are the calls by Dr al-Qarawadi for “Jihad” in Syria, for the purpose of replacing the existing Government with a fundamentalist Islamic regime. 117 This, therefore, gives particular insights into the nature of the fundamentalist Islam being introduced into the South West of England, by those seemingly seduced by the promise of pecuniary benefits and greater cultural ‘diversity’. The domestic policy of the UK Government (and State agencies) has provided for the emergence and growth of that Jihadist subculture. In addition, UK (registered) charities - heavily funded from Saudi Arabian sources - have been used for the purpose of spreading the extreme Wahhabist/Salafist form of Islam throughout the UK by (in particular) the funding the building of mosques and Islamic ‘community centres’, and by extensive proselytizing work that targets young, vulnerable men. Of particular note is the extent to which the UK ‘authorities’ have worked to conceal such developments – even to the extent of subverting the work of the law enforcement and security services, or of using those same agencies to discredit and silence those who attempt to expose the reasons behind the emergence of an Islamic terrorist subculture within the UK. The foreign policy of successive UK Governments (and State agencies) has also provided for the turning of the UK into a major base for the export of global, Islamic terrorism. This has been by means of: support of the US/Saudi/Israeli/EU axis; the participation in unlawful military attacks on sovereign nations; and the encouragement of Islamic terrorist insurgency within other countries – including by means of the supply of materials, military assistance, and political (propaganda) support. st © Tony Shell 1 January 2015 Multiculturalism as Anti-white Racism: [1] South West England TS_research_3.pdf 11 of 46 The most disturbing aspect of that strategy is this: that the supremacist, expansionist Global Jihad that the UK political elite send our young men and women to fight (and, on too many occasions, to be killed or maimed whilst fighting that threat) has emerged and expanded with the deliberate connivance of that same UK political elite. This report therefore describes the manner in which such activities, by the UK State, permeates down to the local levels of civil administration and control. It is seen as highly significant that the same State agencies and allied organizations (and very often the same individuals) found collaborating with the extreme Islam, also have close links to the hard-left ‘no borders, no nations’ anarchism (with its own, particular anti-white racist agenda). The purpose of ‘progressive’ political activism is the creation and enforcement of extreme social change. This includes the effective destruction of Common Law (that is, of Law to be applied equally, regardless of social position, gender, appearance, ability, wealth, or ethnicity) and replaced by the rule of ‘progressive’ State Law (through politically-inspired statute, and ‘social correction’). 118 This process is politically motivated and driven ‘top-down’ by closed, elitist organizations, holding considerable power over the general public – to construct privilege towards politically-defined ‘minorities’; and to do so in such a manner as to incorporate extreme, bigoted, and racist innuendo, directed against the native (English) population. It is therefore not too surprising to find in such collaborations recommendations for the eradication of “colour-blind policing”. Such overtly racist imperatives are, of course, totally contrary to the principals of Common Law. 119 Understanding this racist context is crucial, given that Common Law provides (or has the potential to provide) a defence against State tyranny. However the imposition of extremely divisive multiculturalism will, by its very nature (of many different groups holding radically different values, customs and beliefs) requires the elimination of Common Law – and the loss of such protection. Social anarchy is introduced, such that the State can justify the ever-increasing imposition of extreme, authoritarian rule. An examination of the role of State and State-proxy organizations in that process provides important insights into both the aims and the methodology. A document by the National Association of Citizens’ Advice Bureaux (NACAB) titled ‘Challenging Racism in The Rural Idyll’ encapsulates much of the purpose and strategies of ‘progressive’ political activism. 120 In particular we see efforts to use racialist political ideology to gain control of the administration of Law, and the dispensation of Justice; the creation of an essentially negative portrayal of the majority indigenous population (using the derogatory, racist epithet of “white” people) – and the fomenting of a sense of grievance and victim-hood within minority BME communities. Inspection of the NACAB document shows, by example, the extent to which ‘progressive’ activism seeks to inculcate a racialist ideology into local agencies of State, NGOs, and charity organizations. Of particular relevance to the local events described within this report are links to Avon and Somerset Constabulary, Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, Plymouth City Council, NACAB South West, and The Monitoring Group (Exeter, Plymouth and Torquay). st © Tony Shell 1 January 2015 Multiculturalism as Anti-white Racism: [1] South West England TS_research_3.pdf 12 of 46 It is very obvious that a political purpose is recognized and understood. For example, the document’s reference to the likelihood of “political embarrassment” should the local County Constabularies (within the South West) be perceived as reticent in submitting to the demands of the “Project” 121 Indeed, it is highly significant that references to potential “political embarrassment” should arise in dialogue between HM Constabularies and a charitable organization (registered with The Charity Commission, and therefore supposedly barred by charity law from having, or promoting, a political purpose). In 2005 Avon and Somerset Police unlawfully discriminated against "white" (English) candidates in its recruitment programme. The force rejected 186 white applicants because, it said, its workforce was "overrepresented by white men". Under the Race Relations Act, shortlisting or appointing on racial grounds is unlawful. The Chief Constable was subsequently forced to publish an apology for "inappropriate" (i.e. wrong and insulting) behaviour by the force, and one of the rejected applicants subsequently won an undisclosed sum in compensation in an out-of-court settlement. 122 Therefore this introduction of concerns of a sensitive “political” nature, in discussions between the CAB and State agencies responsible for law enforcement, is seen as especially revealing – and potentially highly embarrassing. This leads to evidence of such agencies actively engaged in fomenting anti-white (i.e. anti-English) resentments within the BME population. There is justifiable concern that BME clients may be persuaded (by CAB staff) to say they are victims of racism even when they, themselves, have not been subjected to any such behaviour. Such clients are regularly exposed to CAB ‘racism’ material, and are specifically asked to identify themselves in terms of ethnic origin. For example, a CAB report states: “The [BME] client did not disclose the racial aspect of this incident [where the CAB client’s dog had leapt up and bit and man; and the altercation between the man and the CAB’s client that then ensued] until the [CAB] adviser asked for the [client’s] ethic origin during equal opportunities monitoring.” 123 Material used by CAB (such as the racial discrimination/harassment form, produced by the Avon and Bristol Law Centre) includes the instruction: “If a Black client seeks advice on another problem, it is still possible that they may have been discriminated against. Questions you should ask the client to make sure that no element of discrimination is involved include: whether they feel they have experienced discrimination; and whether they were treated differently to white people in the following areas – employment (as an employee or job applicant), housing, advice, public services.” 124 The approach adopted by the CAB in ‘monitoring’ (supposedly gathering evidence) of rural racism is demonstrated in the statement: “We [CAB] are asking that everyone in bureaux collect any items in the local papers that they consider racist – for example comments made by people interviewed in a press article, letters to the press expressing racist or white nationalist views, reports of racist motivated attacks on people or businesses, negative views about asylum seekers, Travellers or migrant workers.” 125 The CAB approach in the collection of ‘evidence’ is clearly based on a prior-assumption that racist behaviour is only exhibited by ‘white’ people, and that ‘white’ people are not racially discriminated against st © Tony Shell 1 January 2015 Multiculturalism as Anti-white Racism: [1] South West England TS_research_3.pdf 13 of 46 – a position that is, in itself, highly racist. More than that, these political duties, requested of CAB staff, appear to fall far outside of the remit and authority of proper CAB work. It is the connections between the CAB and ad-hoc, self-styled ‘racism monitoring’ groups that are of particular interest. The origins of the Rural Racism Project (RRP) appear to have been circa 2002 as the RRU, and instigated by the Southall (West London) charity based organization, The Monitoring Group. Notably the formation of the RRU/RRP also appears to have been in collaboration with the National Association of Citizens’ Advice Bureaux, Western region (NACAB West) – which at that time also involved participation from at least one local police authority (Sussex Constabulary). The Monitoring Group was founded in early 1979. The Group’s ‘monitoring’ activities initially focused on racist behaviour of ‘white’ people in the major UK cities (principally London) and were extended to rural regions some 23 years later, with the formation of The Rural Racism Unit/Project. TMG-Plymouth declared its principle activities to be combating “racist and domestic violence”, with its staff working closely with the local police service. This appears to have included the extensive monitoring of ‘white’ people for signs of racist behaviour (as well as providing counseling and assistance to victims of domestic abuse and violence). In terms of those objectives TMG-Plymouth appears to have been modeled on the MPS-RVCTF (and later, DCC4), launched by John Grieve of the Metropolitan Police Service in 1998. The context here is the known close working relationship between TMG-Plymouth, Devon and Cornwall Constabulary, and the Devon and Cornwall Local Criminal Justice Board (DCLCJB). 126 It is therefore by observation of TMG and RRU/RRP activities that the true purpose can be determined – to ‘monitor’ the behaviour of the native (English) population for actual, or perceived signs of ‘racism’. The results of such ‘monitoring’ are then reported to various State agencies, as well as to NGOs, mainstream media, political groups, and change agents. Of particular interest are the activities of Mr Jon Mckenzie who, as the manager of the Rural Racism Project, was a prominent speaker at the launch of the RRP at the Plymouth Guild Hall, in 2004. Mr Mohammed Shabir Ahmed – who is based in Exeter, and was one of the more prominent speakers at the RRP conference – is listed as having served as The Chair of the Trustees for The Islamic Centre for the South West, a Director of Exeter Citizens Advice Bureau from October 2004 until October 2006, and has also worked in an advisory capacity for the Learning and Skills Council for Devon and Cornwall. It is assumed that Shabir Ahmed was invited to the conference by the TMG (Jon McKenzie). Notably Mr. Ahmed chose to use the particular phrase of “inherent racism” to describe the attributes of those angered by actions of Islamic terrorists. It is through the emergence of unelected, unaccountable organizations such as the Torbay Racist Priority Action Team (TORPAT) we see the manner in which a political ‘racism industry’ introduces a particular st © Tony Shell 1 January 2015 Multiculturalism as Anti-white Racism: [1] South West England TS_research_3.pdf 14 of 46 ideological agenda into the workings of the law enforcement agencies, the judiciary, local and national Government, charities, and numerous NGOs. The attendee’s list of a TORPAT meeting on the 2 nd August 2005 is of particular interest, given that it shows the collaborative contacts between the DCC, ethnic minority organizations, and the many and various ad-hoc ‘monitoring’ groups (such as TORPAT, TRIPAT, TMG-Plymouth and the RRP). 127 Unfortunately, the extraordinarily large number of ‘anti-racism’ and ‘equality’ projects, groups, units, teams, task forces, initiatives, workshops, institutes, et cetera make it very difficult to establish all the connections (direct and indirect) to local and national State agencies, NGOs, political groups, private corporations, overseas-based organizations – and to the ultimate providers of funding (of, presumably, public money). However such important insights can sometimes be achieved by other means. Organizations placed under conditions of extreme stress often reveal their true institutional characteristics. Of interest (for this report) are behaviours indicative of endemic, anti-white racism. th On the 11 July 2005 DCC together with the Plymouth and District Racial Equality Council, Plymouth City Council, and The Monitoring Group issued a joint press statement. The statement was released just four days after terrorist suicide-bombers murdered 52 people in central London. The authors of that statement chose to portray “those who hate in Plymouth” as being “white” people. 128 This extraordinarily defamatory statement was obviously directed specifically against the English population. That attempt at cleverness, in the immediate aftermath of the London 7/7 atrocities, in fact revealed a rather nasty anti-white culture firmly rooted within those organizations. In April 2007 The Monitoring Group was awarded a contract by the Devon and Cornwall Local Criminal Justice Board to select and train personnel for a BME (Black and Minority Ethnic Group) Scrutiny Panel. The BME Panel members were to be tasked, in collaboration with LCJB representatives, with reviewing highly sensitive (confidential) ‘racially aggravated’ crime files. The project was to be led by Mr. Jon McKenzie of The Monitoring Group. 129 In addition to his role within The Monitoring Group, Jon McKenzie has also been linked to the local Citizens Advice Bureau – including working from the CAB premises, in Exeter. 130 131 132 Investigations of persons employed by those organizations have proven to be especially illuminating. A forum-poster in the name of ‘Jon McKenzie’ has been involved in campaign of support for Mumia AbuJamal – the convicted murderer of a police officer in Philadelphia USA, in 1981. In contributing to that support, ‘Jon McKenzie’ posted: “Onamove! from the rural jungle of Newton Abbot, South Devon, England, UK! (aka Britain's Deep South) Us Brits better start getting under Mumia to lift him outta that shit - or we're next!” – alongside a “racism tears Britain apart” avatar in the shape of the Union Flag, distorted into the shape of a Nazi swastika. from the UK - right now! X” 134 133 On another posting he promises: “Gonna do my shit In an article for a UK political forum, in 2002, the ‘Jon McKenzie’ name again appeared above the exhortation: “The only justice for Mumia is complete freedom”. st © Tony Shell 1 January 2015 135 Multiculturalism as Anti-white Racism: [1] South West England TS_research_3.pdf 15 of 46 It must be of great concern that this import of racialist politics from the USA (in terms of false narratives, and an aggressive and juvenile use of language) is so often used in the UK to foment animosity within the BME community against members of the majority, native population (the so called ‘whites’). The Free Mumia Abu-Jamal movement is based upon an extraordinarily distorted account of the murder of th Philadelphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner (9 December 1981) and the subsequent trial of Mumia AbuJamal – an account fabricated and espoused by the exponents of an extreme racialist political ideology; using invention, numerous falsehoods, and distortions. The political purpose appears to have been: to foment fear, hate, and guilt within targeted sections of society; to present a police murderer as a hero and a political celebratory; and to help create and perpetuate extreme social conflict. Notably Mumia Abu-Jamal was a prominent advocate for MOVE – a US-based anarchist-primitivist group whose leaders used feelings of grievance and victim-hood (real or imagined) to recruit members from within the US Black African community. To appear relevant to the UK, this form of political activism incorporates a denial of the existence of an indigenous, native English people who are dismissed (for example) as nothing more than the “established white community” – a deliberately derogatory form of racialist labeling. 136 It is therefore by such means that any notions of native entitlement and national sovereignty can be sneeringly set aside. Perhaps most alarming of all the links between the State (and its proxies) and groups committed to an ideology based on ‘no borders, no nations’ anarchism. For example, a web page – from an anarchist group published in June 2011 – indicates close working links between The Monitoring Group and extremist ‘no borders, no nations’ anarchist groups. 137 The concern is that this, and previous research, reveals this to be a particular form of anarchism that incorporates not only the objective to destroy sovereign nations (e.g. of England) and the system of constitutional law (e.g. English Common Law and governance), but also a form of anarchism that incorporates an extreme, racist (i.e. an anti-nativist) ideology. A search of the Internet has also revealed the close working links between The Monitoring Group and a particular anarchist group, based in Exeter. organization to Ultra-Red. 139 138 Such searches have revealed evidence linking the TMG Ultra-Red is an international, far-left movement (‘no borders, no nations’ anarchism) that lists, as it’s collaborative partners, various organizations including The Monitoring Group Rural Racism Project (TMG-RRP). 140 One of Ultra Red’s principle activists is Mr. Elliot Perkins of TMG-RRP, who has also worked in close collaboration with both the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary (DCC), and Devon and Cornwall Local Criminal Justice Board (DCLCJB). 141 Information from the website of the No Borders (London) anarchist organization shows the political linking of “whiteness” – as opposed to “people of colour” – to the destruction of sovereign nations within Europe, assisted by means of an extremist “no borders” political agenda. 142 Again, there is the reference to “no borders, no nations” as the aim of this particular form of anarchism. st © Tony Shell 1 January 2015 Multiculturalism as Anti-white Racism: [1] South West England TS_research_3.pdf 16 of 46 It is the incorporation of the cod-academic discipline of Critical Whiteness Studies (CWS) into the ‘no borders, no nations’ anarchist ideology that provides such an easy step from racist references to “people of whiteness”, to the false stereotyping of European native people as “white supremacists” (or worse). At the core of CWS activism is to be found extreme malice with a purpose – to fragment society, polarize opinion, and to foment conflict. CWS is being used as the pretext for the destruction of the cultures and the communities of the native European peoples. And this process has largely been made possible by means of the political exploitation of mass immigration to force extreme (and un-consented) social change. 143 Such is the arrogance of those in power (the ‘progressives’) that little effort is made to conceal their links to political extremism. During the week from 17 th to 24 th October 2009 a ‘Crime Question Time’ event was organized by the Devon and Cornwall Local Criminal Justice Board (DCLCJB), at the St. Mellion International Resort. This event was a part of the DCLCJB instigated ‘Inside Justice Week’ project. 144 145 The invited panel members for the event were: Paul Netherton (DCC Assistant Police Chief Constable, and ACPO member); Tracy Easton (Chief Crown Prosecutor); Mark Flinton (Governor HMP, Exeter); Alan Qualtrough (Editor-in-Chief, Western Morning News); Philip Hayton (BBC News); and Elliot Perkins (of the ‘no borders, no nations’ anarchist movements Ultra-Red and Kanak Attak, and representing the Rural Racism Project of The Monitoring Group). 146 In part, Ultra-red has described its activities in the following terms: “Ultra-red takes up the acoustic mapping of contested spaces and histories utilizing sound-based research (termed Militant Sound Investigations) that directly engage the organizing and analysis of political struggles.” 147 As already noted, Mr. Elliot Perkins had, for some time, worked in close collaboration with both the DCC and DCLCCJB. 148 The import of anarchist, ‘no borders no nations’ extremism, based on a racist political ideology, is predominantly from the USA and Germany. Notably, in his TMG autobiographical résumé, Mr. Perkins also refers to his 10 years residency in Eastern Germany. 149 The context is therefore Mr. Perkin’s connections to Kanak Attak (and that movement’s connections to Ultra-Red) – a political movement that seeks to: (1) support a ‘no borders, no nations’ regime throughout North America and Europe; (2) support unlimited/uncontrolled immigration; (2) oppose any efforts towards assimilation or integration of migrant communities into host nations, and a promotion of ghetto-ism; and (3) to politically radicalize members and descendants of immigrant communities, using real and manufactured grievances, into supporting extreme social change – including the destruction of sovereign nations, and the elimination of an identifiable native population (in effect, of ethnic genocide). 150 151 152 Notably, in response to the Chairman’s question “how would they (the panel members) like to see the Criminal Justice System in the future?” Mr. Perkins responded: “I would do away with the corrosive and divisive programmes which fall under the Government’s anti-terror, community interventions, known as PREVENT – these kind of things – which we are all subject to at the moment.” 153 This remark was not challenged by any of the other panel members, and drew loud applause from the audience. However the PREVENT strategy is intended to prevent people (especially young Muslim men) being drawn into radical and violent extremism. st © Tony Shell 1 January 2015 Multiculturalism as Anti-white Racism: [1] South West England TS_research_3.pdf 17 of 46 In terms of such behaviours, described within this report, it is also the consequences in Law that needs to be considered. Treason is the most heinous of crimes at Common Law (and therefore ranks above murder). In particular it has been established in case law that “To destroy the Constitution of the country is an act of treason” and in terms of the State agencies, allied organizations, and individuals mentioned in this report, that: “There is also a common law offence of misprision of treason which consists of failing to inform of any treasons committed or threatened by others, or of attempting to rescue any traitor from justice.” 154 155 Crucially it is supremacy of the law that is our (the common people’s) essential safeguard against a tyrannical State. This, therefore, is reflected in the opinion by Sir Edward Coke that: “No one, be he king or commoner is above the law”, and is (for example) reflected in the Judicial Oath. 156 The problem explored within this article is the disturbing evidence of efforts through an extreme, racist, and anarchist political ideology to undo (and ultimately destroy) our system of Common Law and Constitution. If trust is lost in agencies of State, then those agencies cannot be trusted to supply the remedy. Such remedy must come from outside – from, or with the full consent of, the people. Additionally, if there is State malevolence behind that lost of trust then such remedies (as demanded by the people) will inevitably be opposed and undermined by the malevolent State. In these circumstance recourse to lawful remedy by the people is required (as is their natural right and entitlement) – not to be rid of the State through acts of anarchism, but to reduce those agencies of the State to their proper, servile position; and to bring to account the miscreants, in accordance with the Law. Whilst Officer Faulkner was requesting assistance on his police radio, William Cook’s brother, Wesley (aka Mumia Abu-Jamal) ran across the street and shot the police officer in the back. Despite being seriously wounded, Officer Faulkner was able to turn and fire a shot (which struck Abu-Jamal in the abdomen) before slumping to the pavement. Mumia Abu-Jamal then stood over the prone police officer and fired shots at him a further four times – including one shot in the face at very close range. The shooting was observed by a number of witnesses including a cab driver, and passing pedestrians. The wounded Abu-Jamma was arrested by police officers, arriving at the scene shortly afterwards – with his own handgun, containing five spent cartridges, by his side. nd On the 2 July 1982 Mumia Abu-Jamal was found guilty of the murder of Officer Daniel Faulkner by a jury of ten white and two black people. Officer Faulkner had been married for a little over one year before being gunned down. For the next 30 years his wife, Maureen Faulkner, campaigned to counter the disinformation and hatemongering being disseminated by members and supporters of the ‘Free Mumia Abu-Jamal’ movement – who have sometimes responded to her public appearances with verbal and physical abuse (including spitting at her). Two freelance security experts were contracted for two days’ work during research for a BBC Panorama film I was working on in 2008. I did not make the arrangement, but I understand that other members of the Panorama production team contacted two young Asian men who agreed to travel to Plymouth to find out, discreetly, if a suspected Islamist extremist was leading prayers at a local community centre. I had received information from a confidential source that this alleged extremist was linked to Nicky Reilly, the young man with learning difficulties who attempted-to bomb a restaurant in Exeter. We were interested to find out if he had in some way groomed Nicky Reilly and led-him down the extremist path; we were trying to corroborate-the source’s story. We knew the prayer meetings were small- and outsiders without the correct appearance would attract suspicion. … The two young Asian security experts, who ran their own small security business, could attend the meeting without arousing suspicion and report back to us. They did so and reported that the alleged extremist was at the meeting but after some consideration Panorama dropped that line of inquiry and we moved on to cover other story-lines for our film. I understand that the two young men were paid £150 per day for two days work.” From: ‘In The Matter Of The Leveson Inquiry – Witness Statement of Richard Davey Watson’, Richard Davey Watson, 13th October 2011, section 11.1.
