Happy New Year
to our members
A Special Announcement
from
Your President
Dear Fellow Chamber Member,
Happy New Year! I trust that all of you had an enjoyable and safe holiday season.
I would first like to review our December meeting. As you know we have been dedicating the meeting
to benefit The Rescue Mission via donations of food and personal items that they can use to help those
that come to them for assistance. This year I believe we collected the largest amount of donations that I
can remember in my five years of membership. Thanks to all of you that donated. We started and ended
the meeting with the music of the CNS string quartet under the direction of Mr. John Harnois.
Ms Maggie Morgan, Ms Kate Wagner, Ms Caitlyn Ackerman and Ms Mackenzie Shostack performed
a number of seasonal pieces and they did so superbly! I would like to Mr. Harnois and Superintendent
Annette Speech for making the presentation possible. Also thanks to John Kuryla for coordinating
everything.
We also had an excellent presentation by Daniel Sieburg, the Chief Programs Officer of the Mission.
He presented a PowerPoint presentation that highlighted the various facilities at all of their locations.
Further, he reviewed the uniqueness of each. A high point was to see the new facility here in Syracuse
that now allows them to house women.
As a Chamber we are half way through our business year and I hope that more and more of you will be able
to take advantage of our meetings and services. But, more importantly utilize the services of your fellow
members.
In closing special congratulations to Ozzie and Syracuse Realty for the work they’ve done with the old post
office building. It is a beautiful building and a real plus for the community.
Respectfully,
Paul
Paul Ahrens
President

Advertising vs. Articles….Each month an email is sent to members requesting information for
the newsletter—articles; event dates; special activities; advertising. Articles are informationalbased only; it does not sell a product or promote an event. There is no charge for submitting
article. Event information is considered advertising and can be submitted as a flyer for an
insert, which does have a cost attached to it. A submitted event date will be included in the
Members Event Calendar section for no cost.
Keep in mind the Newsletter reaches over 100 members. Newsletters are emailed to each
member. The members are printing the newsletter and circulating it with staff and clients,
reaching even more “potential” clients. The Newsletter is also used for recruiting new
members.

Attention:
If you have a desire to make a difference
and influence our future generation,
then consider becoming a mentor
for a student
at Cicero-North Syracuse High School.
This program is not a tutoring program and will not demand a lot of your time; it is about
building relationships to assist a young adult in achieving personal growth.
Mentoring does not just affect the young person, it may also affect you. If interested or have
any questions, you can contact Bill LaClair the House 2 Principal at 218-4202.
Newsletter Articles
Beginning with the May Newsletter we would like to invite all members to submit articles
for publication. It is important that what is submitted isn’t an ad! It should be
something informative about your business or the sharing of something that would
possibly be informational that you would like to share. In either case please be certain
to include your name and your company’s name.
Please submit all articles to Paul Ahrens at [email protected] by the first of each
month.
