Welcome to Boston`s Waterfront!
Welcome to Boston’s
Waterfront!
Dear Friends & Visitors,
On behalf of all the people who call this great city home, welcome
to Boston – a world-class city with hometown heart. I invite you to
explore every corner of our city including Boston’s rich waterfront.
This winter, waterfront businesses and cultural institutions from
East Boston to Dorchester will join together to make the season
warm, fun, and memorable with something for everyone. Public
skating, light shows, First Night activities and ice sculptures, a
chance to win a college scholarship, and school vacation programs
will all be part of the excitement.
Discover Boston’s waterfront this winter!
Sincerely,
Martin J. Walsh
Mayor of Boston
Winter on the Waterfront
Over 100 businesses and cultural institutions from East Boston to Dorchester
have teamed up to bring you Winter on the Waterfront. Together we are pulling out
all the stops to make this season a warm, fun and memorable one.
The festivities officially kick off on November 22 with Blink! at Faneuil Hall
Marketplace and public skating at the Boston Harbor Hotel. On New Year’s Eve,
follow an ice sculpture trail to over a dozen indoor Family Fun sites and enjoy
food, music, crafts and other activities.
Come down to the waterfront during February school vacation for a chance to win
a $5,000 scholarship for college at any of our participating locations. Finally, enjoy
an April staycation featuring a different waterfront neighborhood each day. You’ll
find something for everyone!
Who We Are
Waterfront Boston is a collaboration of over 100 waterfront businesses, cultural
institutions and park agencies. We’re working together to connect residents and
visitors to Boston Harbor and to each other. We offer hundreds of free and lowcost cultural and recreational events for families and adults during the winter
holidays, February and April school vacation weeks, and throughout the summer.
Look for our mascot, Bustah Crab, at participating organizations!

Blink! This televised Christmas tree lighting features Mayor Walsh at Faneuil Hall
Marketplace. This state-of-the-art extravaganza uses over 350,000 LED lights,
which illuminate Boston’s skyline to the song stylings of the Holiday Pops in a
seven-minute spectacle. This runs continuously, every evening, through January
4. The opening of the Boston Harbor Hotel’s outdoor public skating rink is also
open November 22. Glide to music under the stars before ducking inside for hot
chocolate – or something stronger!

February Family
Fun week
February 14–22
Come down to the waterfront during February School vacation and enjoy Boston’s
largest classroom! With a wide variety of businesses and museums to choose from,
the learning--and fun--never stops!
Get a head start on paying for college by entering to win a $5,000 scholarship! Visit
any participating waterfront location, color in a Bustah Crab coloring sheet, and
enter our raffle by posting it to Twitter or Instagram with the hashtag #WOTWBOS or
mailing it to Bustah Crab, The Boston Harbor Association, 374 Congress Street Suite
307, Boston, MA 02210. Children and teens ages 0 to 20 are eligible. The winner will
be chosen on March 1.
Last year’s winner of the $5,000 college scholarship was a wonderfulv 6-year-old girl
from East Boston named Daryanna. Three cheers to The Langham Boston hotel for
providing the scholarship money. Here’s what her mother had to say:
“Estoy muy feliz con el premio de Daryanna,y tambien feliz
de poder empezar el ahorro para pagar la universidad con
tan generosa cantidadad que ustedes estan contribuyendo
para la causa. Daryanna es una nina que ama los libros, por
lo tanto este un regalo exelente para ella.”
I am so very happy with Daryanna’s winnings and also very
happy to be able to begin saving for her college education
using the very generous amount you have contributed. Daryanna is a little girl who loves books and so this prize is an
excellent gift for her.

April family fun week
April 18–26
April Family Fun Week is the perfect time for a Boston staycation! We’ve made
it easy for you to plan your week by creating trip planners for seven of Boston’s
waterfront neighborhoods: East Boston, Charlestown, the North End, Downtown,
the Seaport, South Boston, and Dorchester. Spend a morning exploring a museum
or walking tour, pick the perfect local restaurant for lunch, then take home a
special memory from one of many local shops. Although swimming may need to
wait for warmer weather, the waterfront is a great destination any time of year!
Artistic and Culinary Excellence Live in East Boston
Spring in East Boston is full of hopeful new beginnings. A visit to one of Boston’s oldest immigrant
neighborhood is full of discovery for families of all ages. Stay at Hyatt Boston Harbor for the best
views of Boston. Enjoy the refreshing sea breeze from land at Piers Park and from the water with
Piers Park Sailing. Work up an appetite exploring the many eclectic outdoor sculptures at Harbor
Art’s sculpture park and dine on the best Latino foods the city has to offer from the many Latin
American cultures that make up the community. If you’re hungering for something even further south
of the border, be sure to stop by KO Pies for their Australian meat pies. Finally stop by the Maverick
Marketplace for a handmade local souvenir from your visit.
Maritime History Comes Alive in Charlestown
History is in bloom in Charlestown during April vacation week. Visit the historic Charlestown Navy
Yard for family-friendly activities to satisfy the budding curiosity of your littlest patriot. The world’s
oldest commissioned warship, USS Constitution, is in dry dock affording a unique look at her full hull.
The USS Constitution Museum will host daily hands-on family friendly activities to show how life was
really like aboard ship hundreds of years ago. For a more modern take on US military history, book a
unique ride on the Joseph F Kennedy UB85 on pier 1 or a tour of Boston’s other battleships or learn to
sail the harbor at Courageous Sailing. Be sure to mark your calendars for Patriots’ Day at the Bunker
Hill Memorial for demonstrations by Boston National Historical Parks on how to understand the
historic Battle of Bunker Hill from discovered artifacts on April 20 11am–4pm.

neighborhood, the Institute of Contemporary Art features world-class artist exhibits regularly in their
state of the art facility. For tiny tots learning is made fun at Boston Children’s Museum and Boston
Fire Museum where hands-on activities help brings lessons to life. The Seaport is quickly becoming a
dining destination in Boston with new hot spots popping up almost weekly. One tried and true dining
destination with a view you can’t miss is Sam’s At Louis right above the venerable Louis Boston. Just
a stones throw away Tango Seaport has fantastic gifts for everyone on your list. To be in the center
of it all, book your stay at the InterContinental Boston Hotel at Fort Point Channel and begin your
adventures in style!
Go Seaside in South Boston
Discover Little Italy in the North End
The North End of Boston comes alive in the spring and awakens all of your senses with its charms.
Old favorites and new discoveries wait at each twist and turn of the storied narrow streets. We find
the one of the best way to navigate is thru the many foot tours available. Whether you’re feeding
your hunger for history or for Italian delicacies, there are tours available. Boston By Foot and Boston
Food Tours are just some of the trusty guides who can show you the ins-and-outs of the North End
neighborhoods. Follow the Freedom Trail to the Old North Church, Paul Revere’s House, and then pop
into the dozens of small shops lining the popular Hanover Street. When you’re ready for a break, lay
out in the sun at Christopher Columbus Park amidst their rose garden and killer views of the harbor.
Book a stay at the new luxurious Battery Wharf Hotel to stay steps away from it all.
Explore the Great Outdoors, Downtown
Boston’s Downtown is a celebration of the great outdoors – with an urban twist. With 15 acres of new
public parkland making up the Rose F Kennedy Greenway, Boston’s biggest outdoor market at Faneuil
Hall Marketplace, and Boston’s busiest wharfs with ferry connections to the Boston Harbor Islands,
the downtown neighborhood is the unexpected escape that is just subway stops away. Revel in the
joys of childhood on the Greenway with cartwheels down their stretches of lawns, runs through the
fountains, and rides on the carousel. Grab tasty bites from food trucks at Dewey Square or pick up
fresh groceries from Boston Public Market and historic Haymarket. Go for a stroll on the Harborwalk
connecting Rowes, Long, and Independence Wharf and explore even further into the sea with a visit
to the New England Aquarium. On April 18 from 10am–3pm come celebrate the 40th Anniversary of
Boston National Historical Park with Junior Ranger Day. To make your visit even more of a treat, book
your stay at the Boston Harbor Hotel for pampering and luxury like no other.
Art, Tech and Style take Center Stage in the Seaport
Change is in the air in the Seaport, Boston’s fastest growing neighborhood. This April vacation come
see what this dynamic neighborhood has to offer. With a foot in both the past and the future, the
Seaport houses the Boston Tea Party Museum and District Hall, the shared public workspace that is

South Boston eagerly welcomes spring and the heralding of the summer season. Carson Beach,
Boston’s biggest beach is primed for scenic walks and jogs along the Harborwalk and Joe Moakley
Park will be buzzing with team sports of all kinds. At the very tip of Southie, Castle Island is a beautiful
park space perfect for picnics and other family activities. Tours of Fort Independence at Castle Island
by DCR are also available. Pack your lunch or grab coastal favorites at Sullivan’s the local favorite for
fried clams and lobster rolls. Nothing says summer is almost here like a fresh New England lobster roll
and they have you covered. New for 2015, the Innovation and Design Building in the Boston Marine
Industrial Park will feature brand new shops and other public amenities for you and the whole family
to explore.
Sample Politics and Pad Thai in Dorchester
Spend a spring day in Dorchester and follow in the footsteps of Boston’s most famous brothers, the
Kennedys. Begin your visit at the John F Kennedy Library and Museum and rediscover the legacy
of our 35th President. Then visit the brand new Edward M Kennedy Institute next door and explore
the legislative process using interactive learning to foster an appreciation of the pivotal role of the
United States Senate in our nation’s history. Housed on Harbor Point both institutions are a stone’s
throw away from some of the newest parts of Boston’s Harborwalk and UMass Boston’s campus in
Dorchester. Take a stroll down to Malibu Beach and the Neponset Greenway where you’ll find some of
the most beautiful natural outdoor space in the city. For lunch swing over to Savin Hill for a bite from
tasty Vietnamese and
other fusion cuisines,
and be sure to stop
by Savin Scoops for
homemade desserts.
If you’re still trying to
satisfy the sweet tooth,
Dorchester’s Lower Mills
neighborhood is home
to the country’s first
chocolate factory and
has plenty of little shops
with goodies for all.
