The AirStudio/AirStudio+ app MUST BE force closed and opened again after the device
firmware has been upgraded successfully. You can follow the links below to force close
the AirStudio/ AirStudio+ app.

For Android users: Go to HOME screen, select MENU  SETTINGS  APPLICATIONS
 Manage Applications, then tap the Running tab and select
AirStudio / AirStudio+, then tap either Stop or Force Stop button.

The Wireless Hi-Fi unit normally plays a radio-station with the highest available quality.
This however may lead in some areas / networks to a playback with interruptions / long
buffering periods. As a remedy, you can select an alternative available stream, if
available (e.g. with a lower bit-rate or with a different encoding format) for the current
played radio-station. It can be done by …
In the now playing screen click on Settings  Internet radio  Select Alternative
Stream. You do this repeatedly in case of multiple alternative streams are available.

 Playback does not start when a PRESET button on the main unit is pressed (e.g. for

DLNA/uPnP mode)




Enhancements in the network setup wizard –non-supported characters and basic
network security password are checked (see screenshots below).
For iOS version of the App: Addition of an indication for poor network connection:
The indication means that Wi-Fi signal received by the unit is too weak and might
cause interruptions during music playback, or a slow response.
Below are some simple steps to improve Wi-Fi signal:
- Move the Wireless Hi-Fi and/or the access point unit (router) further away from a
wall / corner of the room
- Remove obstructing objects in front of, or on top of the Wireless Hi-Fi
- For AW1000 and AW2000: Change the orientation of the external antenna

Note: the indication will only update in the app after a refresh is being initiated (via the

Addition of STOP-button in all the modes (Internet radio, Music Services)

Increases the number of supported tracks in Spotify playlists (from 3500 to 5000 tracks)

When an Internet radio station cannot be played back, an error message will be shown.
Reminder:
The (N) symbol indicates a new firmware being available for the Wireless Hi-Fi.
Upgrading to the latest firmware is strongly recommended.

 Enable Napster music service. (Napster music service is available in some countries
only)
 Playlist of Spotify online music service has been corrected to show the complete
playlist under the starred folder.
 Usability is enhanced. For long list such as tracks or albums etc. in music service or
internet radio, the number of entries has been extended for easier browsing and
scrolling.
 “Now playing” indicator (red circled) is shown on the home page under Music service.

The LED indication on the device has been enhanced to provide music streaming
status. The LED blinks in white color when buffering of music data is required. The
LED stays in solid white color when enough streaming data is obtained for continuous
music playback.

The Preset-number of internet radio station is now shown next to station name for
easy reference.

A Network Status Tool for helping in troubleshooting network performance has been
added. To access to Network Status Tool, go to Services -> Your device -> Settings ->
Network status. The Network Status Tool gathers WiFi network statistics and conveys
the information into network environment chart. You can improve the performance of
network by changing the access point to a channel which has least number of
networks. To change the access point channel, please refer to the user manual of the
access point.
Remark: the network environment graph is a snapshot of the Wi-Fi signal spectrum
captured at the moment when this page is opened. To refresh the status, press the
BACK button and then go in the network status page again.

Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC) is now supported.
Service tab selections are displayed in list view for enhanced usability and a
contextual header is shown for all modes (Internet radio, Deezer, Spotify, …).
Speaker device name can now be edited via the Settings menu.
Language settings can now be changed without running through the installation wizard
(via Settings menu in the Services menu).
Firmware notification (only available for iOS Airstudio APP) - Whenever there is a new
firmware available, a “N” icon will be shown.

With online music service, you now have access to unlimited music and make it easy
to discover, share and listen music from the Philips Wireless Hifi speakers.

Improved Wi-Fi performance and interoperability.

Wireless music streaming response time has improved on this version. Previous
software version could take up to 5s> to start music playback.

m4a music file format is now supported on Apple iOS 5.1 Apple portable devices. You
can now use AirStudio app to stream m4a tracks from an Apple iOS5 portable device
to the wireless hi-fi speaker.

Instructions for updating firmware
Before you begin, make sure:




Your iOS/Android device is connected to your Wi-Fi network.
The wireless speaker of which you want to upgrade the firmware is connected to the
same Wi-Fi network.
Your wireless speaker can be found via the AirStudio App.
The Wi-Fi network is working properly and has Internet access.
1. Launch AirStudio / Airstudio+ App.
2. Tap Services (this step is not needed in Airstudio+
App).
3. Tap the device of which you would like to upgrade the firmware.
4. Tap Settings (Airstudio ) / Internet radio and then Settings (Airstudio+
with older FW-versions) / Device settings (for unit with Device FW > 5.63S)
5. Tap Firmware Upgrade, then tab “Check Online”.
6. If there is a new firmware, you can select OK to confirm to upgrade
7. The wireless speaker will start downloading the firmware and then proceed with
firmware upgrade:
8. After firmware upgrade is completed, the speaker will restart and connect to the
previously connected network automatically.
Note:
Firmware upgrade process may take up to ten minutes. Do not turn off the speaker
power nor disconnect it from network during firmware upgrade.
In case the unit shows a permanent RED power indicator after the upgrade (or in earlier
SW-versions amber/red or amber/green permanent blinking), then follow the instructions
given at this link (recover the unit from a corrupted firmware).
