Message from the
President
The racing season has come to a close and
although we faced many challenges, it was
still a very successful season. I believe the
Back To The Track races were some of the most competitive
races we saw this year and the Backpacks to the track promotion was a huge success that was followed nationwide. Track
surfaces were tricky this year with the rainout in Viroqua and
cancelation of the Mineral Point Early Meet. Kudos to the
Iowa County Horsemen for being able to put their track back
in shape for us to race at the Middle Meet.
The Board is busy planning the annual meeting, so I hope
you have it marked on your calendars. (Save the Date info
later in this issue). We are very fortunate to partner with the
USTA to bring you a guest speaker. Trainer Ron Burke of
Pennsylvania will be on hand in the afternoon and all evening.
Mr. Burke has over 4,400 wins as a trainer and his stock has
earned over $92 million! He is the trainer of the richest pacer
in world history FOILED AGAIN, who has bankrolled over $5.7
million. I had the opportunity to meet Ron a few years ago at
the Hambletonian, and I’m very excited he has agreed to come
… you won’t want to miss him!
We also have a BIG ANNOUNCEMENT to make during the
WHHA annual business meeting. The announcement is a positive one, but you will have to attend the meeting to hear it
first! (It will be relayed in the Spring Newsletter). We are very
excited for it and the opportunities it will bring to Wisconsin
racing.
Don’t forget to get your nominations in for the Wisconsin
Harness Racing Hall of Fame. The guidelines are printed in this
issue, and the deadline has been extended to November 20 th.
Please be sure to get Susan your nomination letter and supporting documentation so she can have it ready for the Hall of
Fame Committee’s November meeting.
