As a live and studio guest he has shared stages with Bonnie Raitt, Steve Earle, Paolo Nutini and Jools Holland, and featured on recordings by Mark Knopfler, Paul Weller and Ocean Colour Scene. DARIUS BRUBECK QUARTET The Darius Brubeck Quartet live in concert, featuring Darius Brubeck (piano), Dave O’Higgins (saxes), Matt Ridley (bass), and Wesley Gibbens (drums). The Darius Brubeck Quartet will take you on jazz journey to distant places and different eras. While Darius is best known for representing his famous father’s musical legacy and for pioneering jazz education in South Africa, he has always performed his own compositions too. The group will enter the studio in February to record a new album after the critical and popular success of their previous release, Cathy’s Summer. Throughout his life, Darius has been inspired by travel and the musical influences from many far flung places: the beat of Brazil, the direct emotion of South African jazz, the improvisation and rhythm of Asian musics, and the lyricism and harmony of the European tradition. The quartet always plays a mixture of original music, jazz standards, Dave Brubeck hits and South African jazz. Don’t miss this brilliant evening of exciting and eclectic jazz. John has been a member of Mark Knopfler’s band since 2008, playing arenas around the world. In 2013 John performed as a soloist with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra at Proms In The Park, playing his own compositions live on TV. 2016 will see John celebrate 25 years as a professional musician, publishing a book of compositions, releasing a new solo record, and embarking on an extensive tour. His band features some of the finest traditional musicians and singers in the UK; Andy Cutting, Adam Holmes, Innes White, and Toby Shaer. BOX OFFICE: REVERED AND REVILED Pierre-Auguste Renoir is known and loved for his Impressionist paintings of Paris. These paintings count among the world’s favourites. A WITH After the show you are also invited to meet the musicians and get up close to the instruments. So join us and bounce up and down with delight to this visually stunning, musically magical, extra special safari adventure. This stunning film – based on the remarkable collection of 181 Renoirs at the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia – examines the direction he then took and why it provokes such extreme reactions right up to today. Some claim they are repulsed by Renoir’s later works and some claim they are seduced. What may surprise many is that among the many artists who sought out Renoir’s new works and were clearly highly influenced by them, were the two giants of the 20th century – Picasso and Matisse. The film is a fresh new biography of this artistic giant but more than that it, uncovers a rarely told story that places Renoir as a critical link between the old and the new. There are TWO performances, each with a different story focus. The 11am performance will be Cecil’s Starlight Safari, and the 2pm performance will be Cecil’s Magical Safari. Both follow the adventures of Cecil and Lesula. Not only a brilliant observer of everyday life and Spain’s troubled past, he is a gifted portrait painter and social commentator par excellence. Goya takes the genre of portraiture to new heights and his genius was reappraised in the much-anticipated landmark exhibition at The National Gallery, London. This film uses the exhibition to look in depth at Goya’s fascinating and eventful life. Through extensive location footage, Goya’s revealing letters and a unique exhibition of masterpieces from great collections across the world, this film builds a fascinating portrait of the painter and the colourful world he painted. Goya’s powerful vision and technical brilliance has placed him among the greatest painters to have ever lived. Produced by award-winning director Phil Grabsky, ‘Exhibition On Screen’ brings blockbuster art exhibitions from galleries around the world to local cinemas. Phil will be in attendance for a Q&A session. Ropetackle Film Club Presents: NORTH BY NORTHWEST 1959 American spy thriller film directed by Alfred Hitchcock. In this area, which was completely isolated from outside cultural and musical influence, the boys grew up playing the traditional music of their forefathers on banjo, fiddle, mandolin, acoustic guitar and acoustic bass. All of this changed abruptly one afternoon when the boys discovered in the wreckage of a car several vinyl AC/DC albums. After listening to the iconic rock band, they all agreed the songs would be a perfect fit for country music, and the rest is now enshrined in history. Most recently, Hayseed Dixie have been exploring the inspired catalogue of 70s and 80s stadium rock. This interest began during their 2014 spring tour of Germany, in which the band heard the song ‘Eye Of The Tiger’ 6 different times on 6 different radio stations, in a single day! “As the seed is planted, so the tree shall grow”– and in fact this very quote appears on the inner sleeve of the 1980 album ‘Escape’ by Journey.
