Fredonia offers a range of business programs to prepare you for success in
fields such as Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, and Marketing.
A new set of courses are now offered in international entrepreneurship.
Your School of Business experience – regardless of major – includes
strong components in ethics, global-cultural awareness, technology,
critical thinking, and leadership.
You will work closely with faculty who are engaged in discipline-specific,
professional, and instructional research. You’ll have opportunities for
research, internships, and student competitions. You can also join clubs and
organizations, including Fredonia’s perennial award-winning Enactus team,
as well as the Economics Club, Business Club, and Accounting Society.
You can strive for membership in the campus chapter of Delta Mu Delta
(a national honor society in business), the Financial Management Association National Honor Society, or the American Marketing Association.
These groups supplement your education by helping to develop professional skills that you will use throughout your life.
Students have gained internships with such respected companies as General Electric, American Express, Walt Disney World, Fisher Price, the Buffalo
Sabres, the Atlanta Braves, Merrill Lynch, Wegmans, Paychex, Radio City

firms, and marketing agencies.
The School of Business also provides opportunities to work in teams on
projects with global corporations, local businesses, non-profit organizations, and adventurous entrepreneurs leading start-up companies in the
Fredonia Technology Incubator.
Fredonia alumni enjoy successful careers in virtually every conceivable industry, with some obtaining high-level management leadership roles within
such billion-dollar enterprises as Disney, Ford Motor Company, American
International Group, and the National Football League, to name just a few.
Others have gone on to found their own accounting, investment, marketing,
and sound recording firms.
The School of Business also collaborates with the Department of Applied
Professional Studies, which offers majors in Sport Management and Music
Industry. The Sport Management program prepares students to be the
leaders, practitioners and managers in the professional field of sport, health,
wellness and human performance. The Music Industry program prepares
students to understand and excel in the non-performance components of
the music industry, such as artist, retail, and venue management, marketing

If you have the passion to teach, Fredonia’s nationally accredited teacher
preparation programs develop the knowledge, skills, and experience you
need. Since its founding as the Fredonia Academy in 1826, this institution has
earned a reputation for preparing outstanding teachers. You can choose from
a range of programs, all leading to New York State certification.
You can earn certification in Early Childhood (Birth-Grade 2), Childhood
Education (Grades 1-6), and Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6). Dual
certification programs give you skills and credentials highly sought after by
school districts across the U.S. You can be certified in both Early Childhood
and Childhood Education through the dual certification program, and the
Childhood Inclusive Education program certifies you in both Childhood
Education and Students with Disabilities.
If you’re interested in teaching grades 7 to 12, you can choose from Adolescence Education programs in Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, English,
French, Mathematics, Physics, Social Studies, and Spanish. Each ensures that
you know your subject well and know how to teach effectively, and each collaborates with the College of Education, which oversees all programs leading
to teacher certification.
You’ll also have plenty of practice before graduation. You begin field experiences your first year, and continue to work with elementary, middle, and high

The master’s program in Interdisciplinary Studies is a self-design program
that will allow you to create a degree program tailored to your professional
and educational needs and interests.
A new, state-of-the-art Science Center. Biology graduate students, and
students enrolled in Math and the MAT program have the opportunity to
study and work in the facility and receive individual mentoring and handson research opportunities.
The Henry C. Youngerman Center offers access to comprehensive speech,
language and audiology clinical services for children and adults, and provides
a training clinic for graduate students in Speech-Language Pathology.
Graduate students in Music Education broaden their performance and pedagogical skills; classes in this program are offered through Fredonia’s world-renowned School of Music. Students are able to take advantage of the program’s

You’ll feel at home at Fredonia, but if studying outside the U.S. is what
you’ve been dreaming about, the International Education Center (IEC) can
help. Whether you need assistance in choosing a destination, applying for
a passport or scholarships, or getting up to speed on a culture, the IEC has
dedicated people ready to help you realize your dreams. You can choose from nearly 600 study abroad opportunities in 70 different countries, with programs ranging from a full year to a semester or even
just a few weeks. While abroad, you can complete major or minor course
work, upper-division electives, or general education classes. You can even
fulfill student teaching requirements, obtain international internships and
service learning experiences or choose International Studies as a major
or minor. While it’s most common to study abroad during your junior
year, freshmen, sophomores and seniors can do so as well. Hundreds

You’ll love venturing into the village of Fredonia and exploring Chautauqua County, Lake Erie’s shores, and beyond. The region, home to
Chautauqua Institution, the Lucille Ball Comedy Festival, and the Roger
Tory Peterson Institute of Natural History, is 90 minutes from Niagara
Falls and a vacation destination for fans of cultural activities and
seasonal recreation.
The village of Fredonia is a safe, fun, and charming place to walk, eat,
shop, and socialize. In addition to festivals that bring art, music, and food
downtown, you’ll enjoy everyday life in this historic, tree-lined community
noted for its Victorian-era homes. You can taste the specialties of a
range of locally owned restaurants, bakeries, pubs, and pizza shops. You
can see a film or enjoy a concert at the beautifully restored 1891 Fredonia
Opera House. Barker Commons has two fountains, a gazebo, and plenty
of benches for hanging out with friends (and eating ice cream). The
village is within walking distance of campus, and a special late-night
shuttle makes it even easier to get to and from popular night spots
safely. The shuttle also runs to shopping plazas, grocery and retail stores,
banks, and a movie theatre complex.

Fredonia is located halfway between Buffalo,
N.Y., and Erie, Pa. Both metropolitan areas are
accessible by plane, train, and bus.

By car from I-90: Take I-90 to Exit 59 (Dunkirk/
Fredonia). After the toll booth, continue straight
until the road ends (at the “T” intersection with
Central Avenue). Turn left onto Central Avenue.
The main entrance to the university is on your
right at the next light. However, the Office of
Admissions is just past that light at 178 Central
Avenue, in the red brick Fenner House, onequarter mile ahead on the right.

By car from I-86: Take I-86 to the Route 60
North exit at Jamestown. Stay on 60 North for
about 25 miles until you reach the intersection
of routes 60 and 20. Turn left, and proceed to
Temple/Water Street, turning right. At the second traffic light turn right onto Central Avenue.
The main entrance to the university is on the
left at the next light. The Office of Admissions,
in the red brick Fenner House, is one-quarter
mile before this entrance on the left.
By plane: Flights are available into Buffalo
Niagara International Airport. From the airport,
it is just a 10-minute cab ride to the Metro Bus
Terminal. Once there, see “By bus,” below.

By train: Arrive at either of Amtrak’s Buffaloarea stations (Exchange Street or Depew).
From the Exchange Street Station, it is a halfmile cab ride to the Metro Bus Terminal. From

By bus: From the Metro Bus Terminal in Buffalo,
it is only an hour ride. The university also offers
a shuttle to the airport and train station
during students’ peak travel times, and charter
buses to New York City and Long Island.

Although this guide and our website give you a quick glance, it’s always best to visit Fredonia in
person to truly envision life as a student. When you’re here, take a tour and see where you’ll live,
eat, and study. Meet the faculty and observe their classes. Catch a concert, lecture or sporting
event, and talk with current students to learn about their experiences. There are plenty of
opportunities to visit year-round, and a range of options to suit your needs.
Daily Admissions Sessions and Tours During the academic year, you can meet admissions counselors
and take a walking tour of campus. You can also arrange visits with academic departments.
Open House Visits Open houses are group events where you tour campus, sample food, and meet
with faculty members, financial aid counselors, and the admissions staff.
Campus Host Program Be a Fredonian for a
day! Once you are accepted, you can arrange
a stay on campus for a day or two. Sit in on
classes, eat in dining halls, and stay overnight
in a residence hall.
AN AFFORDABLE EDUCATION
Fredonia has many ways to help you achieve
your degree. Financial aid packages include
grants, loans, and employment on campus.
These programs are funded by federal or
state monies. Funds are awarded based on
documented need as determined by the
required Free Application for Federal Student
Aid (FAFSA) filed by you and your family.
You should complete your FAFSA form no
later than Jan. 31.
Fredonia also has hundreds of scholarships
available, all of which can be viewed at www.

$3.5 million in merit- and need-based scholarships were awarded to students.
