Dear Brethren, Companions, and Sir Knights,
I am looking forward to our time as we gather together in the
York Rite tradition.
Freemasonry involves our Commitment to our “Gentle Craft”
by living out the promises Brothers keep. We are focused
on Civility by being courteous, polite, and respectful during
interactions with others. In addition, we work together to give of
our time, talents, and resources supporting our Masonic Charities
and the communities we reside in.
When you combine this with the deeper appreciation and
knowledge gained through the York Rite, the vision of remaining
available for men for years to come is still realized!
I am thankful for the many Companions and Sir Knights
who dedicate their time tirelessly in an effort to continue
strengthening our Masonic foundation. Our Grand Lodge
officers look forward to being with each of you during the
Sessions. Hoping our interactions will
continue moving us forward with growth
and the contributions for our members and
our communities.
Fraternally,
Anthony R. Cracco

The Cryptic Council Nursing Scholarship
The Scholarship Foundation sponsored by the Grand Council of Illinois
was established in 1993 under the guidance of Forest C. McDaniel MIGM
to provide financial assistance for qualified men and women desiring to
enter a career in the healing arts.
The Nursing Foundation, presently headed by
Russell Schlosser MIPGM and Dick J. Carroll
MIPGM, MI Grand Recorder, is charged with
securing the funding for scholarship awards.
For this purpose, a “University” has been
created which dispenses “degrees” based
upon the level of individual contributions.
The growth of this venture bears a direct
relation to the availability of student financial
resources.
All students entering into the RN and
BSN programs must be accepted into an
approved School of Nursing in the United
States. Each applicant must be a resident of
Illinois. The supervision of this scholarship
program is under the direction of the Nursing Scholarship Screening
Committee chaired by Richard Yena with John Jorgenson and Karl Smith
as members.
Each applicant must submit an application accompanied by the required
documentation no later than April 1st. In May of each year the Screening
Committee holds an interview with each applicant. All are subsequently
notified of the results. Each scholarship is granted on a semester basis with
continued satisfactory academic performance. All funds are sent directly
to the student’s school. A satisfactory scholarship record will permit
continuation in the program until graduation, but a new application for
funding must be submitted each year.
At its inception in 1994, the Nursing Scholarship program sponsored
4 students. During the years since, the number has grown. In 2004, 22
students received scholarships. This past year yielded 26 applications
for consideration. Over the years more than 55 men and women have
completed their training in our program. All are now working successfully
in their chosen profession.
Future plans for our training program may include graduate studies in
the various fields of nursing and the institution of the Nurse Practitioner
program.
