Become a new member or renew your membership! Besides contributing to the library, you will receive a copy of this monthly newsletter in the mail. Fill out the enclosed Friends’ application, print one from our website (mphpl.org), or ask for an application at any MPHPL location. Junior Renewing Membership: Cameron Connett Reminder... Friends’ Board Meeting Wednesday, August 6 1:30 p.m. Bittersweet Branch 602 Bittersweet Road Mishawaka 259-0392 Renewing Membership: Cynthia Blicher, Julie Dominiack, Jean Flowers, Gail E. Schmidt, Bonnie Stickley A Letter from the President of the Friends... Have you noticed the renovating occurring in the old computer lab at the Mishawaka Library? I am pleased to announce that the Friends are giving $10,000 for the purchase of ten new, state-of-the-art computers. In appreciation of our substantial donation, the library has chosen to name the lab after the Friends. In addition to offering patron and staff training on computers, the lab will also be open to businesses for company training, which will provide a means of revenue for the Friends. For those of you simply wanting to use a computer (no training necessary), there is a new computer lab on the main level. As we discussed this venture at our June board meeting, we were excited to have the funds to make such a valuable investment. Always a concern is growing our membership so that we can continue to fund programs and projects as they arise and fit within the perimeters of our bylaws. With that in mind, let me challenge you: if you are reading this article and are not a member of the Friends, please consider joining us. If you are already a member of the Friends, you can invite another person to become a member of the Friends. Think about it: if everyone invited one person, we could double our membership. One of our income streams is membership dues. Think of this: your dues have helped the Mishawaka Library update its computer lab! Another source of income is our book sales. Now, you’re probably saying, “What book sales?” Each location has shelves set aside for ongoing book sales. Last month was one of our biggest sales at $1600! Wow, all that money and we didn’t need volunteers to move the books from one level to another; set up all those books and having volunteer cashiers to handle the sales. The library staff graciously collects the money for all those purchases, on our behalf. The Friends’ board of directors depends on you; please help us! “When you read something you are stopped, the moment is stayed, you can sometimes be there more fully than you can in your real life” ― Helen Humphreys, Coventry Barbara Dodson Barbara Dodson, President Friends of the Mishawaka-Penn-Harris Public Library The Friends of the Library Membership Application YES!
