FIFA WORLD CUP 2014 – TRANSPORT SCENARIO ITS • Plan and manage the public transportation and the transit of the city of Rio de Janeiro • Has 800 employees, which 20% are engineers. • To manage the traffic the SMTR has CET-Rio, that is a company separated from SMTR but is under control of SMTR. • The SMTR changes information with Rio Operation Center, where the information about transit and transportation is managed. ITS • Transit and transportation are managed using some different technologies, such as: 9 185 cameras spread over the city, which are linked with the Rio Operation Center. 9 2300 traffic lights, which 52% are controlled via GPRS. 9 23 Variable Messages Panel, which are used to inform for citizens about traffic and route time. 9 All buses are monitored by GPS. ITS • Information demanded about problems that occur on the traffic of the city. • Information demanded about departures, arrivals and travel time of public transportations. • How these information will be known by the citizens faster and accurate. ITS • Use of new available technologies to generate information about transit and transportation in real time, with no costs for final users. • Develop a strategy to support both public & private transportation demand for online information 39 ITS Eletronic ticket charging, policy of tariff integration with other systems Electronic charging Validador Vending Machine com GPRS - Recarga Vending Machine - Recarga automática Validador Metrô com coleta de cartão Leitor de cartão automática Weakness Strengths • Fast • Uses different tariff structures • Allows tariff integration even without phisical integration • Higher control over concessionaries • Possibility of various sales points • Less money transactions: security for passengers and operators • Reduction in change difficulties • Low operational costs • • • • • Complexity of the system High initial investment Requires verification equipments Limited interface with other technologies Smart card costs 40 ITS Operational Control Center will be needed for the operation of the BRT system, to ensure security and reliabity of the system Planning Operation Control and monitoring GPS fleet control Control over operation’s punctuality and regularity check Real time register of medium operational speed Visual control of the system through cameras on the corridor and at the stations and terminals Possibility of action in emergency situations (floods, disasters, strikes…) Possibility of observing occupation levels in vehicles and stations Data for reprogramming, rescheduling and operational planning 40 COR – CENTRO DE OPERAÇÕES RIO The project was born because of a flood in April 2010 – Necessity of prediction and integrated planning COR – CENTRO DE OERAÇÕES RIO •Operacional Center of the City Hall •More than 30 public and private institutions operating and monitorating the city COR- CENTRO DE OPERAÇÕES RIO •Radar with 250km range and doppler technology that can cross clouds and measure its speed and direction •A system that will predict rains 48 hours in advance is under development and will forecast with precision in which region of the city the climate event will happen. COR- CENTRO DE OPERAÇÕES RIO / CET-RIO •The traffic in the city is monitorized by CET-RiO through 92 cameras, with real time images. This number will double until the end of the year and on 2013 there will be 585 cameras, that will cover the whole city. It is na investiment of more than R$ 12 million. •Today 52% of traffic lights are monitorized by GPRS; On July 2012 this number will achive 82%. It is na investment of R$ 7 million. COR- CENTRO DE OPERAÇÕES RIO / CET-RIO •Since 2009 15 Variable Message Signs in the City, that indicate to drives the best routes, including travel times in some corridors. In emergency situations, those signs display alert information to drivers. 5This year 5 new signs will be implemented. • Other 8 mobile signs are used by CET-RIO in events, emergency works and interdictions. COR- CENTRO DE OPERAÇÕES RIO / CET-RIO • Periodic information is sent to Press and in twitter, to users and drivers. COR/ PUBLIC TRANSPORT •Since november 2010 bus services are operated by 4 concessionaries •A ticket called “bilhete ùnico” was implemented, and give users the right to travel in two buses during the period of 2 hours. COR/ PUBLIC TRANSPORT •Concessionaries are now developing a system for monitorizing and fiscalization of buses in the city, and this information will be avaiable at COR. •Operational indicators will be monitorized (fleet per lines, waiting time, passenger per line, etc) •The system will generate reports that will support planning and direct actions to problematic lines BUS LINES – ONLINE INFORMATION BUS LINES – ONLINE INFORMATION ITS AT SMTR - PUBLIC TRANSPORT Next Step: • A system with information to users, with signs on bus stops, internet and smatphone information.
