The Hurley Mountain Inn is a family owned and operated restaurant which takes a level of pride and
care in serving you that cannot possibly be achieved by absentee owners or distant corporations.
The Nekos Family is proud to continue their long tradition of hospitality at The Inn.
We would like you to feel as warm and comfortable as the atmosphere around you.
Our entire staff is dedicated to ensuring that you enjoy yourself here at our Inn.
Our History
The Hurley Mountain Inn is the oldest continuously operated establishment in Ulster County.
It began 1830 as the “Wynkoop House”, named after its founder Peter Wynkoop.
In 1888 it quickly became known as the “Suspension Bridge House”
because of its proximity to the new suspension bridge which was constructed at or about
that time over the Esopus Creek.
The United States Post Office was located at The Inn from 1837 until 1853.
It was also a stop on the Ellenville-Kingston stage coach until the early 1900s when that stage
line ceased to operate. During the summers of 1872 and 1873 noted painter Winslow Homer
stayed at The Inn while he painted scenes in the Esopus Valley.
Around the turn of the century it was renamed the Hurley Hotel and eventually nicknamed
the“Hurley Hilton” by its patrons. A one chair barber shop was eventually added (the original
barber’s pole is still on display at the bar). Not much changed through the years as it continued
to operate as a hotel and tavern into the early 1970’s.
In 1973 it was renamed the Hurley Mountain Inn and its popularity began to grow.
Since that time there have been TEN additions to the original building simply because of
demand ! In the Summer of 2001, the Inn closed and for the first time in 30 years was
completely renovated and modernized.
In the early 1980’s Hollywood scoured the United States for just the right spot to feature in the
movie “Tootsie” starring Dustin Hoffman, Bill Murray, Charles Durning and Jessica Lange.
Of course, they picked the Hurley Mountain Inn. People still come here today to see where
Dustin Hoffman performed his award-winning role.
Our annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration is the largest in New York and probably the United
States. Latest figure, we served over 12,000 pounds of corned beef in just 6 days !
(Not to mention 5,000 lbs. of cabbage, 4,500 lbs. of potatoes and 4,000 lbs of carrots !).
Year after year people come from all over the tri-state area to celebrate and feast
on our famous corned beef and cabbage.
In addition to serving food and drinks, we provide top sports coverage coast to coast
and are home to the NFL Sunday Ticket…
