Inline automation streamlines workflow, improves speed to market
and helps RS Superior Bindery exceed customer expectations
For over 15 years, leading print finishing and lettershop
specialist RS Superior Bindery Services Inc. of Toronto has
lived up to its promise of “Superior” service by not only
meeting, but exceeding client expectations. And for six years,
Insource has been a trusted partner in helping the company

market,” says RS Superior’s V.P. Stan Prato. “When we
needed to combine certain processes under one single
workflow and increase our productivity, we once again called
on Tim Wakefield and Insource.”
After an in-plant assessment between Wakefield and Prado,
they were able to improve productivity by reducing bottlenecks
from process to process. The eventual solution was to
combine all processes into the same workflow through inline
automation using modular technology (Clipseal/Tabbers,
Tipping and Inkjet) that could be added quickly and easily to
any of RS Superior Bindery’s existing equipment.
For example, by adding modular inkjet technology from
Insource to its publication mail workflow, the bindery was able
to saddle-stitch booklets and magazines, inkjet print the nameand-address blocks inline at the same time, then send each
finished piece to the end of the line mail-ready to be forwarded
to Canada Post.
This drastically reduced operator downtime and associated
labour costs and improved speed to market. In addition, it
opened to the opportunity to inkjet other pieces inline – such
as postcards or sequential/random numbered tickets as well
as folded pieces.
