All the hotels presented here are my own selection and have been chosen
totally independently. I have not received any commission or incentive to
feature them here. They are places where I'd like to take my family.
As usual with From the Poolside, they are stylish boutique hotels or
B&Bs with a small number of rooms (usually less than 30) combining a
chic atmosphere and stylish decor with a family-friendly welcome. The
presence of a pool is indicated in the headline.
All hotels prices are indicative and based on the hotel's website information
as of March 2016. The prices listed below are the starting rates for a double
bedroom in summer season (June to August) and usually include breakfast.

appealing prices make it a great choice for
families. It's also just a ten-minute stroll to the
villab of Kalyves.

A very popular hotel which gets booked long
in advance. Lovely white and pastel bedrooms,
suites with a separate lounge for the kids,
restaurants and pool.
A former monastery in the hills not far from
the coast has been transformed in a relaxing
retreat with 17 rooms. Breakfast is delivered
to your door in the morning and there is a
restaurant on site. A great option to explore
more than just the beach.

Situated in the center of Makarska on the promenade and surrounded by 3 magnificent
beaches.

A small seafront hotel with a cute garden which has been redecorated by its Belgian owners.
Their choice of colours is unusual but appealing. Bedrooms are said to be a bit small but the
restaurant got good reviews and the setting just on the port is charming.

Hotel Napoléon
ILE D'AIX, FROM 120 EUROS
Hôtel Napoléon is a charming hotel with an enclosed courtyard and some bedrooms on the
ground floor allowing little ones to run around safely. They have a room for three and of course
double rooms which could be a good combination. A restaurant on site, a terrace looking out
the countryside guarantee an easy relaxing time.
Un Banc au Soleil
CHARENTES, FROM 85 EUROS, HEATED POOL
This charming B&B is very welcoming with a pool, sauna, jacuzzi and the possibility to get
massages. La chambre dans les arbres is the biggest (although only 25 square meters) and can
have two extra beds and a cot. They say that the maximum occupancy is 4 people but that may
not include the baby.

Le Bois Flottais

Another hotel that knows how to combine
relaxed charm and family spirit. There are a
few rooms for 3 or 4. They can also rent you
bikes, which are essential to enjoy the island
and can often go fully booked if you leave it
too late!
La Maison aux Figuiers

A nice B&B in le Bois Plage with good press
coverage. Be aware that they don't allow for
extra beds in the rooms so if you are a family,
you have to book two bedrooms.
La Maison Douce
ILE DE RÉ, FROM 140 EUROS
Saint Martin is the nicest port in Ile de Ré
and the place to congregate at night. Nothing
better than walking along and stopping for an
ice cream at La Martinière. This hotel is right
bang in the village hence why it's pricier than
the other choices but with a suite for 4, it's a
nice choice. No pool but a jacuzzi.
Le Trésor des Dunes

This B&B is right next to the beaches at Le
Bois Plage. Breakfast is served by the pool and
the owner bakes cakes for it so that should
make for a great start of the day! There is a
family suite, Obione, for 4 people which is at
171 Euros in very high season.

The C2 Hotel is a 19th century building which has kept its wooden floors, chimneys and
antique features but added a modern vibe, a spa, an indoor pool and even a beach (well it's
actually an island off Marseille). They also offer complimentary stay for children under 12
years old.
Alex Hotel

The Alex hotel is precisely located three minutes from the St Charles station's steps so in the
middle of the buzzing city. It is housed in a listed old building but the interiors have been
redecorated in a modern style. As a fun element and to acknowledge the diversity of the city,
each floor has a different colour.

Eight suites, some for families, with a simple blue and chocolate cycladic style with traditional
cement floor and cute island-style bathrooms.
Corona Borealis

Lovely nicely decorated apartments and big rooms with a fabulous view for breakfast. Highly
recommended by my sister and brother who each went at two different times and loved it!
Themonies Luxury Suites
FOLEGANDROS, FROM 145 EUROS
Close to the main village, Themonies has 4 suites and a two bedroom villa to rent. Decor
is simple to highlight the beautiful stones and the views to the rest of the island. They can
provide breakfast and transport from the port.
Anemi Hotel
FOLEGANDROS, FROM 160 EUROS, POOL
This design hotel is very far from the abandoned school where I slept the first time I visited
Folegandros! With a pool, wifi,bathrobes and even a tennis court, it has all the marks of a
luxury hotel, yet with an attractive price range.
Bratsera Hotel
HYDRA, FROM 140 EUROS, POOL
A charming hotel, just a few minutes walk from the harbour. You walk up to a blue door on a
white wall and step into a former sponge factory with a vast reception hall. It's also the only
hotel on the island to have a pool. I stayed there a few years ago. Read my review.
Tainaron Blue Retreat

A stone tower now transformed into a unique retreat with 3 bedrooms, a pool and a restaurant.
Breakfast and meals are served on the patio by the pool or on the wooden deck of the veranda.
The hotel is friendly towards families with a room that has a single room attached to it and a

A nicely designed, right on the beach small hotel which is located in Kanali, a beautiful seaside
village on the coast road from Preveza to Parga in northwestern Greece. Families are very
