Oh My Aching Feet!!!
Why it is important to wear proper shoes when walking &
working out? Whether you are walking, running or participating in a fitness class a decent shoe is a must. Injuries
caused by inappropriate shoes not only derail your fitness routine but can lead to more serious problems. Investing in a
good sneaker designed for your activities can help prevent
foot, ankle, knee, hip, back and alignment injuries.
There are a variety of sneakers for every type of exercise.
Shoes with built-in shock absorption for impact sports (this
includes walking), lighter weight shoes designed to eliminate
foot fatigue and shoes with ankle and arch support. A “cross
training” shoe is ideal for those involved in various activities
such as walking, aerobics and weight training.
Worn out shoes, street shoes and stocking feet do not
provide adequate protection and are dangerous if worn during
exercise. Pain in the hips, knees and back have been attributed
to simply wearing the wrong shoes.
If you have continued pain in your feet, hips, knees or back ,
take a good look at your shoes. It might be time to replace
those sneakers and make an investment in a sound shoe to
keep you healthy, active and injury free.

Neighbors Need Your Help!
When Joan and Al Vozzella left for Florida last winter, they
looked forward to warmth and relaxation. Instead, Joan required open-heart surgery and had a flare-up of a neuromuscular illness. This summer, Al became seriously ill and had two
surgeries. Now he needs 15 chemotherapy rounds; he’s had
two so far. Al spent over a month in Beth Israel and recently
was transferred to Spaulding in Cambridge, where he will stay
until all treatments are completed. He is transferred to Beth
Israel for each chemo injection and stays there for five days,
after which he is taken back to Spaulding in Cambridge.
Joan Needs A Ride on the days Al is in Spaulding
Cambridge, Joan will need a ride both ways. She is flexible and
will go when she can get a ride. If you are going to Boston for
the day, can you help Joan by giving her a ride to Spaulding
and then pick her up on your return?? This would be so appreciated! On the days Al is in Beth Israel Hospital, Joan just needs
a ride to and from one of the bus stops (Sagamore or Exit 6
Burger King).
Can You Help? If so, please call us or sign up on the
form in the Information Room and we will work out the details
convenient for you. Thank you Joanne Giusti, 508-419-1104 &
Rosemary Palizzolo, 508-539-1089

Partners Bridge is an informal, friendly bridge game played
Wednesday evenings at 6:45 in the Sports Lounge. Be sure to
sign up with a partner each week in the Information Room. The
sign-up sheet is on the wall to the left of the windows. You will
also find a list of bridge players posted there. If you have any
questions or would like your name added to the list, please
contact me. Ilse Fersing, 508 477-5195
Need a Lift? The Prayer/Bible Study Group is eager to begin a
ministry of visiting the sick. Do you know someone suffering
from illness of the body, mind, or spirit who would benefit from
and welcome a brief visit for prayer and music to help heal and
comfort? Please contact Nancy DiFinizio, 508-419-6263.
Recipe of the Month:

Share your favorites with your friends at
Southport! Recipes can be left in the DropOff Box in the Info Center or emailed to me.
Would especially like to see more soups,
