LEWIS BLACK – THE RANT IS DUE: PART DEUX
Friday, July 31, 8:00pm
Flynn Center for the Performing Arts
Lewis is one of the most prolific and popular performers
working today. He executes a brilliant trifecta as stand-up
comedian, actor and author. Receiving critical acclaim, he
performs over 200 nights a year to sold out audiences
throughout Europe, New Zealand, Canada and The United
States. He is one of few performers to sell out multiple,
renowned theatres, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center,
Brooks Atkinson Theatre, New York City Center and the
MGM Grand in Las Vegas. In August 2007, he was the first
stand-up comedian to ever perform in concert at the Walt
Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.
Lewis’ live performances provide a cathartic release of anger
and disillusionment for his audience. Lewis yells so they
don’t have to. A passionate performer who is more pissed-off optimist than mean-spirited curmudgeon.
Lewis is the rare comic who can cause an audience to laugh themselves into incontinence while making
compelling points about the absurdity of our world.

Film: Metropolis with Live Music
Accompaniment
Saturday, August 1st, Dusk
(approximately 8:30pm)
Church Street Top Block
Original Music performed by Randal
Pierce (Keys), Patricia Julien (Flute) and
Jeremy Frederick (Percussion), /
Burlington, VT
http://www.randalpiercemusic.com
Randal Pierce is a Vermont-based
musician whose musical world includes
performing on piano and accordion, private
and public teaching and composing music
for theater and silent films. He runs a private teaching studio in the South End of Burlington for young and
old pianists and music theory students.
About the film:
Metropolis
Directed by Fritz Lang
124 minutes, unrated (suitable for all audiences)
Silent with live, original score. Composed and performed by Randal Pierce (keyboards), Patricia Julien (flute
and vocals) and Jeremy Frederick (percussion).
Perhaps the most famous and influential of all silent films, Metropolis had for 75 years been seen only in
shortened or truncated versions. Now, restored in Germany with state-of-the-art digital technology, under
the supervision of the Murnau Foundation, and with the original 1927 orchestral score by Gottfried Huppertz
added,Metropolis can be appreciated in its full glory. It is, as A. O. Scott of The New York Times declared,
"A fever dream of the future. At last we have the movie every would-be cinematic visionary has been trying
to make since 1927."
Metropolis takes place in 2026, when the populace is divided between workers who must live in the dark
underground and the rich who enjoy a futuristic city of splendor. The tense balance of these two societies is
realized through images that are among the most famous of the 20th century, many of which presage such
sci-fi landmarks as 2001: A Space Odyssey and Blade Runner. Lavish and spectacular, with elaborate sets
and modern science fiction style, Metropolis stands today as the crowning achievement of the German silent
cinema.

Kat Wright and the Indomitable Soul
Band – City Hall Stage
Friday, July 31, 8:00pm
Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band
are on a mission to fill you with music that
aims right for the heart and moves your
soul without overlooking your ass … and
they won't be defeated in their quest.
It all starts with the voice of Kat Wright,
which proves immediately enchanting to
any listener. It's delicate yet powerful; gritty
yet highly emotive; sultry and dynamic. It
promises and delivers a connection with
something outside of yourself. Her style shares a timeless quality with some of history's greatest singers
(think young Bonnie Raitt meets Amy Winehouse), while remaining something authentic you haven't heard
ever before. These days, as we cycle through scores of new groups looking for a little of that old school
magic we're constantly confronted with watered down throwback acts and impersonators of genuine soul.
Kat Wright's powerhouse vocals diagnose this modern day ailment and heal it on the spot.
The Indomitable Soul Band's roots draw heavily from all American music to forge a sound that is all their
own. Blending Memphis soul and new school RnB with a level of improvisation that more than a few
Vermont based bands have been known for, this 7 piece accompaniment is the perfect compliment to Kat's
captivating, genuine vibe. Composed of a rock solid core and a powerful horn section, the ISB keeps you
moving and lays it all on the line at every show.
Saturday, August 1st, 12:00-5:00pm:
City Hall Music Stage
12:00pm: The Snaz
"Never in a million years would I
have guessed that fantastic voice
was coming from a teenager,"
reports the blog, NonHollywood, who
listed the Snaz as #5 favorite in a
nation-wide indie-band survey. The
teens write all their own music and
have been playing them all around
New England for the last three years,
quickly working up to renowned
venues such as The Iron Horse and
Radio Bean, as well as popular events such as the Green River Festival, SXSW and a Spurs
basketball game!. The Snaz song, Anna, from their self-titled 2013 debut recording, was a radio
favorite in Massachusetts and Vermont, topping out at #2 on 93.9 The River's 2014 Song of the
Year. As WRSI's Monte Belmonte says of the Snaz, "It's every disc jockey's dream to believe that
you may have discovered the next big thing." In 2013 the Snaz gained national attention as finalists
in NPR's Radio 360. The Snaz were nominated for 2014's Best New Act by the New England
Music Awards. To begin 2015, the Snaz released their second CD, Running Way From Home. The
new single, Try and Try and Try, is becoming their new radio hit. Both of their CDs are produced by
multiple Grammy Award nominee, Peter Solley, who simply says, "They are the best band in
Vermont." The Snaz are planning a 2015 summer festival schedule that includes Grand Point
North along with artists such as Grace Potter and The Flaming Lips.
1:00pm: Shona Mooney
Fiddler Shona Mooney is a Scottish
Borders lass brought up in Lauder
which lies close to the Lammermuir

from the Border region while her
own compositions derive inspiration
from a winningly magpie-minded
range of subjects, both human and
pastoral. She was a recipient of the
2006 BBC Radio Scotland Young
Traditional Musician
of the Year. More recently her
beautifully haunting and evocative
composition Tidal Island, supported
by Creative Scotland, was recorded for BBC Radio Scotland's Global Gathering. She is also a gifted

to Young Tradition Vermont's Trad Camp.

Mighty Sam McClain, who says,

out!”
Keller is a seasoned performer, adept at creating a fun and inspiring experience for the audience. He has
released 4 CDs, earned glowing reviews in the national blues press, and received airplay on over 200
stations in the U.S. and abroad (reaching #8 on Roots Music Report's blues chart). About.com named him
one of six young blues artists to watch in 2010, and recently proclaimed, “Dave Keller is gonna be huge!”

artfully creating an intimate ambiance and still being able to bring a room to life with contagious energy.
They developed this craft playing up to six nights a week at local bars, restaurants and events.
4:00pm: Francesca Blanchard
23-year-old Francesca Blanchard has been called a "a
profound, mature talent” who "displays guile and artistic
sensitivity that would be the envy of many tunesmiths twice
her age. She may be young, but she has an old soul.” (Seven
Days) Born and raised in France, Francesca traveled the
globe with her family before settling in the small town of
Charlotte in beautiful rural Vermont. Her intimate music, sung
in French and English, reflects on her travels, both physical
and emotional, and reflects influences ranging from Norah
Jones and Carla Bruni to Eva Cassidy and
Francoise Hardy.
Francesca has opened for Joan Armatrading, Suzanne Vega,
Caravan Palace, the Parkington Sisters, Joseph and
performed at the prestigious Francofolies Festival in Montreal
in 2013. Francesca's rendition of the classic French song
“Sous Le Ciel de Paris” was featured on the Putumayo
collection Vintage France and her recording of "Petit Papa
Noel" appeared on Putumayo’s recent French Christmas
collection.
Hokum Brother’s Happy Hour - City Hall
Stage
Saturday, August 1, 5:00pm
Their songs are catchy and integrated with
humor, and their lyrics speak of true-life
experiences with a thread of the earliest
cultural fabric we call Americana. Offering
up an eclectic mix of original tunes, sight
gags, physical comedy and a pinch of
nostalgia, The Hokum Bros. will patter and
play their way into inspired silliness and offer
up enough sly satire and social commentary
to insure you’ll be wearing your happy face
long after their show is over.

young and old, and the combination of lively jigs and reels, thoughtful pieces, and Appalachian songs make
for a heartwarming, toe tapping experience.

at the VT Statehouse, the New World Festival, the Barre Heritage Festival, and the Tunbridge History Expo.
