containers - The Scott Arboretum of Swarthmore College
CONTAINERS Container gardening has attained growing popularity as it provides creative possibilities for gardeners who may not have the time, space, or economic means to garden on a large scale. The type of container need not be restricted to traditional terra cotta or plastic; anything sizable, durable, and that allows drainage will suffice. Wood, metal, and ceramic containers, for example, provide interesting variations of texture and color. Just as in previous years, the majority of the containers at the Scott Arboretum are planted with tropical plants and tender perennials which provide a long season of interest. Each container has a numbered stake which corresponds to the number found within this brochure. The numbers begin in the front of the Wister Center, proceed to the Terry Shane Teaching Garden, and continue around the building to the front of the Scott Arboretum offices (the Cunningham House). From there, the brochure lists the containers found at Cosby Courtyard and next to the Lang Performing Arts Center. For each numbered container, the plants are listed with a short description allowing visitors to pinpoint specific plants. Common names are noted in parenthesis. Wister Center 1.
