MidAmerica Bank, a long standing business member of Chicagoland has introduced CommUNITY Banking, specifically designed to provide local organizations the opportunity to earn funds on an ongoing basis. Here’s how it works: When members or supporters of our group open a new personal checking, savings, CD, or Money Market account at MidAmerica Bank and declares affiliation with Horizon the bank will make a donation to our organization. As an added bonus, interestbearing accounts are also a part of any fund raising effort and MidAmerica Bank will match an additional % of the interest each account earns each year when the account is “linked” up to our organization. This will not decrease the amount of interest your account will earn and your individual account information will not be shared with anyone. If you already have an account with MidAmerica Bank, stop by the bank or call 630-305-8300 to “link” up your account so our organization can benefit from a contribution from MidAmerica Bank! Any questions, e-mail [email protected] The Association of Horizon is a not for profit corporation registered in the state of Illinois under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Page 2 December 2004 HORIZON GOLF SCRAMBLE A SUCCESS! FORE! On Sunday October 17th 2004, the Association of Horizon hosted its 2nd Annual Golf Scramble at beautiful Woodruff Golf Course. Mother Nature prevented the outing from taking place on its original date of August 29th, but the golfers still came out late for the Autumn Sun and a great round of golf with friends and family. Participants enjoyed golf, scrumptious food, games, raffles, and wonderful prizes in addition to a little bit of competition. Congratulations go out to this year’s winners who took home prizes for both individual and team competitions, we hope to see you all again next year. Special thanks go out to all golfers, sponsors, and volunteers who took their time to come out and support Horizon. With your time and effort we helped Horizon to raise important funds that will help pay for next years summer camp and fall camp programs. If you missed out this year on this fabulous event, keep your clubs warm, your body stretched, and stay tuned. Planning for next years event has already begun for an even bigger and better outing, and we would love to see you there. The Golf Committee and Horizon would also like to send a special thanks to all of our sponsors who helped make this outing possible: R&B Remodeling, Labe Bank, US Bank, Thybony, Leading Visions, Admiral Tool & Die, The Apartment People, Mid City Nissan and Subaru, The Pocica Family, and Pauly’s Pub. December 2004 Page 3 7TH ANNUAL NIGHT AT THE RACES The Night at the Races committee managed to outdo themselves again with another fun filled evening at Balmoral Racetrack on September 11th. This year’s theme of a Hawaiian Luau brought out some great decorations and some really interesting Hawaiian outfits. I would like to thank everyone who helped make this year’s Night at the Races our biggest and best ever. Since this event has grown every year we decided to try a new location at the track to accommodate our crowd. This area had many good points along with a couple bad. We are actively working with the staff from the track to work out the kinks and to make next year’s event even better. Thanks again to all who helped, donated and attended. We look forward to your continued support next year. Geri Skudney CHICAGO WOLVES HOCKEY No NHL, No Worry! Don’t let the National Hockey League lockout keep you from enjoying hockey. Page 4 December 2004 W HAT DO YOU GET when you mix a handful of witches, a couple of sharks, Dracula, Elvis and Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz? A Halloween Benefit of course!! On Saturday, October 30th, 142 people came out to DePaul University Student Center to show their support and commitment to Horizon. There was an Italian buffet, dancing & D.J. by our very own Creagh Bennewate, raffles, & a nail biting, down to the last second Silent Auction! We would like to give a special shout out of thanks to Kevin Roy and the ABC News crew for highlighting our event on the 10:00 news that night. Although turnout was lower than past years, we were able to make a profit of $11,567.00 which will go directly to fund our 2005 Summer Camp. We would like to thank all of our contributors (in no particular order), including those who attended the event, those who donated either money or prizes to help make the night a success, and those who purchased raffle tickets. December 2004 Page 5 HALLOWEEN PARTY FALL WEEKEND CAMP The 2004 Fall Weekend was an enjoyable event ! We had 41 attendees that participated in a variety of Fall Festival Activities. We were very lucky this year to be able to take advantage of the warm weather and clear skies! Attendees came to participate in a relaxing weekend with generous amounts of good food. Mark Gray and Tom Musillami ran the kitchen and kept everyone’s appetite satisfied. A hayride through the woods was a great way to see the campsite. People were able to spend time at the campfire, play cards, watch movies and just catch up with each others lives. Thank you to all that helped make this weekend a success! Some of us are already working hard on Horizon's camp for the summer of 2005! We will kick off the year with our annual Recruitment Drive on Saturday, January 8th at Hackney's on Lake starting at 5:30 p.m. Catch up with old friends from camp. Encourage your friends to come find out more about Horizon so they can become part of the Horizon family. One way we continue is to get new people interested in camp! This is a good time to sign up for a committee. We'll be in the Wassail room with free appetizers and door prizes will be given. Then you can thank our long time sponsor Hackney's for those great burgers at camp by having one in the main restaurant. For your convenience make a reservation. Camp dates this year are July 17th – 23rd; so set your vacation and come to be the first to complete this year's camp application! Without volunteers it would be impossible to be the organization we are today! You can help the recruitment committee by doing a presentation at your school or giving us a contact and will do the presentation. Please contact us! Please let the Recruitment committee know you are planning to attend by calling the Horizon hot line (773) 477-5170 or email Terry at [email protected] or Sheila at [email protected] or 1-847-519-9672.
