Oil Paintings & Crocheted Lei’s
studies involved painting a picture
of what she was designing. Over
the next decades she stretched her
artistic abilities in pottery, mosaic
tile pictures and paper mache
projects. In 1996, Marilyn Koschella
seriously focused on oil painting,
taking classes and workshops in
Carson City, Nevada and studied
watercolor painting techniques.
In 2001, she started using the
palette knife in her oil painting and
perfected the technique when she
attended a three day workshop in
2007 with Hope Stevenson in
Mendicino, CA.

arilyn Koschella, oil painter and crocheted lei
maker, is Kailua Village Artists’ featured artist
for the month of August, 2012.
K
oschella discovered her love for painting when
she was in college during the late 1950’s,
when she studied Costume Design. Part of her
oschella’s first trip to Hawaii
was in 1962. She was captivated by the ‘Aloha Spirit’ during
that first trip and over the years
made many trips to the Islands,
until she finally settled in KailuaKona upon her retirement in 2008
when she purchased a home. After her move to
Hawaii, Koschella started making crocheted lei’s,
using a variety of color combinations and kukui
nuts. Since 2009, Koschella has been oil painting
with the ‘West Hawaii Plein Air Painters’. In 2010,
she joined the Kona Arts Center and also became
a member of the Blue Sea Artisans. In 2011, she

joined the Kailua Village Artists.

her oil painting and crocheted lei making at the
Kailua Village Artists Gallery at Alii Sunset Plaza
on August 2, 16 and 20, and at the Outrigger
Keauhou Beach Resort on August 9 and 30. Call
