It was formed on Monday, August 14, 1916, by Roswell Eldridge. It’s founding mission was to obtain and preserve open space. His wife Louise Eldridge was an early commissioner of the Park District. When Roswell passed away in 1928 at age 70, Louise had a bandstand erected in his memory which still stands today in the Village Green.
