100 Years in the Park District
The Great Neck Park District is the oldest
park system in Nassau County and one of
the only park districts in New York State.
It was formed on Monday, August 14, 1916,
by Roswell Eldridge. It’s founding mission
was to obtain and preserve open space.
His wife Louise Eldridge was an early
commissioner of the Park District. When
Roswell passed away in 1928 at age 70,
Louise had a bandstand erected in his
memory which still stands today in the
Village Green.
Carnival Celebrating Our 100-Year
Anniversary, August 14, 2016
Our 100-Year Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, August 14, 2016, was a huge
success! The boat, kayak and sail boat rides, as well as the wading pool, water
pad, dunk tank and water slides helped keep everyone cool. Here are some
scenes from the event!
