Students can receive UVU credit for non-credit coursework completed at the MATC. This agreement satisfies almost half of the credit requirements toward an Associates of Applied Science (AAS) Degree in Technology. MATC students can receive 14 credit hours toward the Core Requirements and 16 credit hours toward the Elective Requirements for a total of 30 credit hours. “I am pleased to support the articulation agreement between Utah Valley University (UVU) and Mountainland Applied Technology College (MATC) that was completed in spring 2012. This agreement allows MATC students with technical certificates in 900+ hour programs to receive credit at UVU in the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Technology degree. Students who follow this pathway will enter UVU with almost half of their AAS degree completed. This partnership between our two institutions builds on the stackable-credential model, since graduates in the AAS program can then apply it directly to our Bachelor of Science in Technology Management program. This is a welcome opportunity for both MATC and UVU, and I anticipate that it will encourage many students to continue their education. We have had MATC students use this agreement and I am impressed with their level of academic merit and commitment to higher education. I look forward to welcoming more MATC students and creating additional collaborative opportunities between our two institutions.” President Matthew S. The primary goal of the agreement is to see apprentices gain the necessary skills, proficiency in the trade, and attain a Journeyman status through the Department of Labor/Office of Apprenticeship (DOL/OA). The advantages of apprenticeship training are clear: greater chances for advancement, job security, faster pay advancements upon completion, and certification from the DOL/OA. “The Associated General Contractors (AGC) could not be more pleased with the service experience and results of the partnership we have enjoyed with MATC and UCAT. We have been able to accomplish more in a short period of time than we had ever hoped for. We simply could not have had a successful apprenticeship and training program without their dedication and commitment to the success of the employees of our member firms.” Richard J. After successful completion of the Practical Nurse (PN) program with MATC and prerequisite requirements, students are eligible to apply to Weber State University to the WSU PN to RN program to receive either: an Associates of Applied Science (AAS) or an Associate of Science (AS) Registered Nurse Degree. “I would recommend MATC Practical Nursing (LPN) program to anyone looking to work in the nursing profession. The instructors are amazing with their real life experiences that they bring to the classroom; they are always willing to help students do their best. This program not only prepared me for employment as a Licensed Practical Nurse but also gave me the opportunity to continue my educational goal of becoming a Registered Nurse (RN) through the PN to RN program agreement between Weber State University (WSU) and MATC.” Amanda Johnson, LPN weber.edu/nursing WSU Registered Nurse Student MATC Custom Fit Partnership The Custom Fit program provides a dynamic partnership between MATC and employers for their training needs. The Utah State Legislature appropriates funds each year as an investment in Utah’s economy through the Custom Fit program which ensures that tax dollars are returned to boost the local economy. “One of our major needs that we had was training our people to use lean technologies to transform our organization. MATC Custom Fit was great because they were able to tailor to our specific training needs as a company. We were able to achieve a direct savings of one million dollars in the first six to eight months of the program and expect to see four million dollars of savings by the end of this year. MATC’s first campus was originally housed at the Utah Technical College campus in Provo Utah, the same site that the now Utah Valley University (UVU) started as ‘The Tech’. 2001 On September 1, 2001, MATC officially became the Mountainland Applied Technology College, an affiliate campus of the Utah College of Applied Technology (UCAT) system. 2005 In 2005 MATC surpassed 500,000 membership hours of training. 2007 MATC opened a new campus in Spanish Fork, Utah to better aid the growing demand at the south end of Utah County. 2009 1998 MATC partnered with Utah Valley State College (UVSC), now Utah Valley University (UVU), to acquire a building lease for more adequate space to meet growth needs. MATC moved into the UVSC West Building. 2002 MATC acquired a building lease in Orem from Alpine School District for more adequate space to meet growth needs, thus creating the MATC American Fork Campus. In 2004, MATC remodeled the old lumber yard building behind the AF Campus for the growing Automotive and Diesel programs. 2006 In April 2006 the Council on Occupational Education (COE) conducted a site visit and in June 2006 awarded MATC full accreditation. 2008 In 2008 MATC surpassed 750,000 membership hours of training. MATC acquired the Geneva building and adjacent land located in Orem, Utah from Utah Valley University (UVU). 2011 2012 MATC hosted a reaffirmation site visit with the Council on Occupational Education (COE) and was awarded full accreditation standing. MATC rose to the top of all UCAT ATC Colleges by producing the most COE accredited Certificates (1,529) in the year. On January 12, 2011, MATC held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of the newly constructed MATC Thanksgiving Point Campus in Lehi, Utah. 2013 Sold the American Fork Campus to purchase 4.1 acres at the Thanksgiving Point campus site, in foresight of new ‘Technology Building’ addition. Mountainland Applied Technology College continues to be the fastest growing campus within the Utah College of Applied Technology system. In 2013, MATC posted the largest growth in membership hours and produced the largest number of COE accredited certificates (1,636) of all ATC’s in the state of Utah for the second year in a row.
