Wood Dale Road Wood Dale, IL 60191 Phone: 630‐766‐6762 Fax: 630‐766‐5715 Web: www.wooddalelibrary.org “Devour a Book” Adult Summer Reading Program June 1 - August 31 Read or listen to a book or a periodical, or watch one of the Library’s “special display” food DVDs to participate in the Adult Summer Reading Program, “Devour a Book”. Pick up your reading log at the Public Service Desk to receive a sign-up prize. Read, listen, or watch to complete your reading log and receive another prize for completing this year’s program. Come to the Library this summer to “Devour a Book” and fill your mind! “Devour a Book” Youth Services Summer Reading Program June 1— July 30 Materials to register for this year’s Summer Reading Program “Devour a Book” are available on the tables in the youth department. Readers keep track of the time spent reading by coloring in a box on their reading log for every 15 minutes that they read, are read to, or that they read to anyone else. Readers record one title read for each five hours turned in. If you read more than one picture book in that time, you can choose your favorite. If you are reading chapter books, it is okay to put the same title down several times. Prize bag incentives are given out at five hour marks by age group. Readers who complete more than one reading log are able to enter a drawing. “Devour a Book” SUMMER READING PROGRAM ICE CREAM SOCIAL Saturday, July 31 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. All participants of the Summer Reading Program are welcome to attend this event. The ice cream will be provided by Uncle Harry’s of Wisconsin located in Addison on Lake Street. Registration is required for each individual - young and old - who would like ice cream at this event to ensure that we have enough ice cream for everyone! Love and Forgiveness Book Discussions: Third in the series of the scholar led Love and Forgiveness Book Discussion. Adult Programs d Foo Fruit and Vegetable Bouquets Tuesday, July 6 at 7 p.m. Please join Chef Rose Deneen when she presents “Fruit and Vegetable Creations”. Chef Rose will demonstrate how to create a fruit and vegetable bouquet. She will give you tips on the best tools to use and the best ways to cut your fruit to make an edible sculpture. Nalesniki (Crepes, Blintzes) Workshop Tuesday, July 27 at 7 p.m. Learn how to make Polish “nalesniki”, the thinnest of pancakes. This easy dish can be served for dessert or for dinner, depending on the filling. You will be able to sample this thin pancake creation, receive practical preparation advice, hands-on practice, and sweet and savory recipes. Move ment Chicago Cossacks Russian Music and Dance Thursday, July 15 at 7 p.m. A Family Entertainment Night Event The Chicago Cossacks will perform Russian, Cossack, Ukrainian and Gypsy dances. They will be accompanied by authentic music performed on Russian folk instruments including the Domra and Bayan. Join us for this truly authentic experience. Women’s Self Defense Class Saturday, August 7 from 2- 5 p.m. This workshop is devoted to the explanation, demonstration, and practice of simple self defense moves followed by the use of these moves on a padded assailant. This workshop is informative, safe, and fun!
