Name: _________________________________________________________________ Register online at REGISTRATION COURSE DESCRIPTION Neuro-endoscopy has become an important diagnostic and therapeutic tool for intraventricular and skull base tumors, hydrocephalus, and other intracranial lesions. Practicing neurosurgeons, ENT surgeons, and residents in training have incorporated neuro-endoscopy in their surgical practice and have expressed an interest in the technical advances in neuroendoscopy and the variety of operative techniques that are available for treating patients. Bioskills workshop sessions will be used to simulate procedures in a hands-on laboratory setting. These procedures will include managing complex hydrocephalus, removing intraventricular tumors, and endoscopic endo-nasal approaches to the pituitary fossa and the entire midline skull base. Course attendees will have the benefit of expert colleagues providing direction and answering questions specific to these minimally invasive approaches. Additional instruction will be available for those attendees who would like to hone their skills in neuroendoscopy. To allow the greatest educational experience, maximum enrollment in this course will be limited to 20 participants. INTENDED AUDIENCE The CME activity is for neurosurgeons, ENT surgeons, and residents. The Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program was begun by the ABNS in January 2006. Participation is required of all Diplomates holding time-limited Certificates in order to maintain their certification. The guiding principle of MOC is to foster excellence in patient care. Its intention is to encourage, stimulate, and support continuing education in the practice of neurosurgery. Through MOC, the ABNS supports its Diplomates' dedication to life-long learning. The program also provides an avenue for compliance with future state, hospital, and third party payors since these are expected to require either participation in an MOC process or periodic re-examination by state medical boards. MOC is composed of four components. Part I - Evidence of Professional Standing Part II - Evidence of Commitment to Lifelong Learning and Periodic Self-Assessment Part III - Evidence of Cognitive Expertise Part IV - Evidence of Evaluation of Performance in Practice OBJECTIVES Upon completion of this continuing medical education activity, participants should be able to: 1. Discuss clinical applications for neuro-endoscopy, including the choice of equipment and basic operating room setup. 2. Critique special cases on how to avoid and manage complications in neuro-endoscopic procedures. 3. Evaluate the benefits of neuroendoscopy as a diagnostic and therapeutic tool in skull base and intraventricular tumors, hydrocephalus, and other intracranial lesions. 4. Demonstrate neuroendoscopic surgical techniques in a bioskills hands-on laboratory setting. CME CREDIT JEREMY N. CIPOREN, M.D. COURSE DIRECTOR COSTAS G. HADJIPANAYIS, M.D., PH.D.
