Hi all,
Well, June is finely here and the weather is getting better - warm days and cool nights.
June looks like a busy month. To start out, on Sat. June the 11th will be the Rabbit Hash Ride. We leave
from McDonald's on Wilmington Pike at 9 AM. Then on Tues June the 14th the team meeting at Tickets
Pub & Eatery at 5:30 PM at 7 W. Main St. Fairborn. All are welcome. Then on Thu-Sat the 16th-18th is the
BUCKEYE RALLY at Canfield Fairgrounds in Canfield OH. Hope to see a lot of Chapter F members
there. Last, but not least, is our Chapter Gathering on Sat the 25th at the Fairborn Senior Center at 325
N. Main St. at 9 AM. Then we will take a ride to Golden Jersey Inn for Lunch in Yellow Springs Oh.
On July the 9th we will take a ride to MYSTICAL MANOR TOUR in Mt. Sterling, Oh. (TBD)
I would like to thank JoAnn Collins for getting our airplane
and having it painted for the Fourth of July in downtown
Fairborn. It will hang from a light pole on Main St. with all
the rest of the businesses. So get down there and see it. It
looks fantastic! If anyone has any pictures or a short story
that they took in May, please send to Colleen to put in the
newsletter.
Well that’s all for now. See you on the ROAD.
RIDE SAFE RIDE SMART. WHEN we meet on the ROAD of LIFE have a SAFE JOURNEY.
RIDE SAFE RIDE OFTEN and Remember, OHIO RIDES and JOIN US for the JOURNEY.

Thanks to Linda McClung Wise
for the great lunch bunch pictures!
In Memory of David E. Kempf
For those of you who knew Doc, he passed away May 5 th in Tennessee. He was
the chapter treasurer for many years. He rode a 1200 Gold Wing with a side car.
Always greeted you with his smile. He stored the canned goods for the Seniors in
his garage until time for us to have a carry-in and sort through them.
We are sorry to have to give this sad news.
Lloyd & Becky

Subject: The Right Attitude
When you take your motorcycle out for a ride, what are you thinking about? Is your
mind on riding or something else. If it is on something else, your mind is not where it
needs to be to keep you safe. Each and every time you throw a leg over your motorcycle,
your head needs to be in the right place.
We are often told riding a motorcycle is 80% to 90% mental, leaving only a small
physical factor. How do you make the shift from thinking about daily distractions to the
ride at hand? Establish and maintain a mental tune-up routine before every ride.
Think about the condition of your motorcycle. Do a mental T-CLOCS. Is everything OK?
Does everything look good?
Don your protective gear. Think about the weather
and be sure to have the proper gear on board.
Check fluid levels, then start the bike. Do you
have enough fuel for your trip? Do you know your
route planned out?
With all the preliminaries done, you are ready to focus on the trip. When you shift your
bike into gear, shift your brain into “active rider mode” because nothing else matters
now except your safety. All your thoughts should be about the ride you are beginning.
Your eyes should be active and scanning your surroundings looking for potential
hazards.
Anticipate the need to change your speed, to change direction, or
communicate to other road users. A wave of the hand, a flash of your high beams, or a
toot of your horn tells others that you are there. Make sure they are aware of you.
Anticipate the worst. Evaluate in your mind what your response would be if a hazard
comes up, keep your options open until you have to choose one – the best one – the one
that lets you avoid the hazard safely and without any drama. This is riding with the
right attitude. Develop a routine like this and every ride you take will be a safer and
more pleasing ride.

Covered Bridge Tour 2016 - May 13-15 changed to October 7-9
Ashtabula, Ohio
The plan is finalized. We will depart from McDonald’s, Xenia on Business 35 at 8 am on Friday
Oct 7th. We will travel back roads through Laurelville, have lunch at Blue Bell in McConnelsville,
and stop at “The Bucket” as we head to Alliance for our overnights on Fri. the 7th & Sat. the 8th.
The hotel is old but clean. There is a very nice one across the street for $150/night Holiday Inn Express your
option. Make reservations at America’s Best Value ($65.65) 2330 West State St Alliance, OH 330-8215688. Saturday we will travel north to Ashtabula viewing 7 bridges including the longest and the shortest in
the U.S. There will be a quick drive along the lake with a lunch stop at “The Covered Bridge Restaurant”. Part
of the building is actually an old covered bridge. Sunday we head home with a stop at Velvet Ice Cream for
lunch/snack on the way to Buckeye Lake. Mileage a day: Fri 284mi, Sat 216 mi and Sun 240 mi. With stops,
the days could still be long.
P.S. Might want to make reservations now. There is a festival in Ashtabula County that weekend.
Looking forward to you joining us.

LINDA’S LESSON:
With summer quickly arriving the weather will start to heat up. This makes riding the bike a little more
of a challenge. Following are some suggestions on ways to cool down.
C
O
O
L
Cool Collars or Vests
Off bike more often
Obey your thirst
Long Sleeves
D
O
W
N
Drink plenty of water or fluids
Observe current weather conditions
Water clothing if necessary
Need more breaks
Cool collars or vests – They can be purchased at most rallies.
Some people have developed ways to
make their own collars and will wear them while riding the bike or walking around the rally.
Off bike more often – How often you need to take a rest depends upon how heat affects you or the
people riding in the group. Sometimes a 10-15 minute stop to cool down beats a visit to the hospital for
heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
Obey your thirst – This is the theme Sprite used; however it makes a lot of sense for
motorcycle riders also. If your body is telling you that you are thirsty in this heat, obey it.
Stop and get something to drink.
Long Sleeves – In heat and humidity people give you looks like you are absolutely crazy for having on
long sleeves. There are numerous brands of mesh jackets on the market anymore that will help protect
you with long sleeves while riding.
Drink plenty of water or fluids – In heat and humidity liquid is extremely important.
Water helps keep
you hydrated; however sometimes sports drinks will help add needed minerals. Remember too much
caffeine can also cause you to be affected by the heat.
Observe current weather conditions – This time of year not only can heat affect us,
but we need to observe the amount of humidity and wind. Some days the heat and
humidity create ozone alert days. These conditions make it difficult for people to
breathe. If you are affected with respiratory illnesses, these days can affect your riding
even more than for other people.
Water clothing – Putting water on your clothes as you drive down the road helps you feel cooler.
It acts
like an air-conditioner until the clothes are dry.
Need more breaks – Again, your heat tolerance determines the frequency of your stops.
Just use some
common sense and if you feel you need a break you probably do.

MESSAGE FROM PUBLIC RELATIONS
Hobo Breakfast: We are going to have off-bike gal and guy games and kinda need to know how many
people are coming to make sure we have enough supplies for the games. Fun time and something
different for F Troopers to enjoy. RSVP to me or Ron is okay.
Just need an estimate of attendance especially regarding the games and food.
About the plane in Fairborn: It will go up the last of June and be up until the later part of September, so people will see
it for the 3rd of July block party, 4th of July parade, downtown show and shine car show, the big Air Force marathon that
has thousands running through and shopping in Fairborn and will stay up until after the presidential debate in September
when we expect to get a lot of visitors. This is really great exposure for our name getting out.
