SALE CONDITIONS AND AUCTION INFORMATION 1. The highest bidder is to be the buyer. If any dispute arises between or among two or more bidders, sole authority to settle the dispute as he sees fit is reserved by the auctioneer, and his decision shall be final. The auctioneer reserves the right to reject any or all bids. 2. Terms of the sale are cash, no exceptions (personal checks are considered cash). Drivers License or some other form of positive identification will be required for checks. 3. When a cow, heifer, bull, steer or semen package is sold the buyer shall sign the Acknowledgment of Purchase which will be brought to him. Ownership passes when the buyer signs this Acknowledgement. Name and address MUST BE LEGIBLE and complete and must be filled in each time an animal is purchased. 4. Cattle are at the buyer's expense, risk and responsibility from the time of purchase: physical possession shall not change until final settlement has been made. 5. All cattle are offered for sale according to the laws of the State of Colorado and the right to bid is reserved for the seller in this sale unless otherwise announced. 6. The cattle in this sale have been examined by a veterinarian and have current health papers. All cattle are sold "as is." There is no guarantee of any kind as to the soundness, condition, or other qualities of the animal sold in this sale, except in a case where the owner makes a specific guarantee. In such a case, the guarantee is strictly by the owner and not by the sale management. Right of recourse must be directly to the owner, not through the sale management. 7. All registration papers will be withheld by the sale management until all checks clear the bank. At such time, they will be mailed to the new owner. If any buyer desires to obtain registration papers immediately, the animal must be paid for in CASH, not a check. 8. Buyer will pay the transfer fee directly to the American Hereford Association at the time of transfer request. 9. The sale management, auctioneer and employees act as agents for the seller, but assume no liability for either the buyer or seller. Any representation made by the sales management are made on behalf of the seller. 10. Every effort has been made to insure correctness of the catalog, but sale management and auctioneers will not assume any responsibility for errors or omissions. 11. All bred heifers are presumed bred but no guaranteed. Prospective buyers can make arrangements to have a qualified veterinary pregnancy examination before the sale at the buyers expense, but once heifer is sold there can be no refusal to pay due to pregnancy status. 12. All premium money, ribbons, banners and gifts go to the seller; buyers may purchase duplicates where available. Cattle will not necessarily be sold in order they are listed in the catalog. Cattle are listed in order of age from oldest to youngest. Females, bulls, steers, semen packages. About Miniature Herefords www.miniaturehereford.org Characteristics and Benefits: High fertility, early maturing, excellent feed converters, easy keepers, and very gentle in nature Thick, deep-bodied, short-legged, muscular, and chunky in appearance Excellent for small properties, since 2 to 3 animals may be kept instead of one standard animal Excellent show animals or children’s 4-H or FFA projects because of natural gentleness and smaller size Better than standard animals in cow/calf weaning ratio, rib eye area per 100 weight, & dressing percentage Allow for agriculture tax exemptions for lower property taxes Hardy and adaptable to many climates from cold Canada, to humid East, to hot South, & dry Southwest Ideal for retired folks who may want cattle as a hobby, pet, secondary income, or full-time business Size: Frame 0 or less (smaller than 45” for cows, smaller than 48” for bulls – at maturity) The smaller size makes them easy to handle. A mature three-year-old cow can weigh between 500 and 1,000 pounds depending on flesh condition. Compare this to the standard mature cow which is 50" to 60" tall and weighs 1,200 to 2,000 pounds. The small animals are what many of the old-timers will tell you were raised 40 years ago, before breeding for the feedlots that resulted in the tall, long-legged bovine of today. Registry: The American Hereford Association is the official registry for Miniature Herefords. A certificate of registration from the American Hereford Association is required. True Miniature Herefords registered through the AHA have pedigrees going back over 100 years and are determined to be free of dwarfism. This is very important and beneficial to insure the purity of bloodlines and predictability of offspring. Care: The bovine is one of the easiest of all animals to take care of. A small bovine makes it even easier. As long as they have plenty of grass, water, and salt available, most of their needs are met. Of course, environmental conditions such as temperature, rainfall, terrain, etc. vary greatly, but Miniature Herefords are very hardy animals and do well in most areas. Keeping them current on vaccinations and worming is also important. If a veterinarian is necessary, any large animal vet can treat them. Nutrition: No special feed is necessary for the Minis. Nutritional needs can vary from one area to the next, but good pasture or quality grass hay, a salt/trace mineral supplement, and clean water are for the most part all that is required. The Minis are very efficient feed converters and, depending on pasture, you can run 2 to 3 head to one standard-size animal. Reproduction: Heifers are bred to calve at 2 to 3 years of age. Bulls are ready to go to work by 11/2years old. We have found the Minis to have very little difficulty calving. Calf birth weights average 45 to 60 lbs. The cows are good mothers with plenty of milk. Both cows and bulls are fertile and breed back in a timely manner. Equipment: Heavy-duty fencing and equipment aren't necessary. Just a quality fence and shelter are adequate. A squeeze chute is also helpful. Disposition: Herefords have always been known for their docile temperament, and the miniatures are no exception. In fact, their smaller size makes them even easier to work with. The MHBA (Miniature Hereford Breeders Association) was organized and established by breeders of Miniature Hereford cattle as a conduit to market and educate breeders and enthusiasts about these mini cattle. MHBA sanctions and sponsors numerous Miniature Hereford Livestock shows across the USA including the National Western Livestock Show and Rodeo and several more. Over the past years, shows have been the most rewarding method of introducing the breed to the public for the first time, and thus encouraging increased sales. The Miniature Hereford Youth Foundation, Inc. is a non-profit charitable organization established to promote youth involvement in the breeding, management, showing, and marketing of Miniature Hereford Cattle through developing leadership skills and educational programs, encouraging personal growth, as well as providing a pathway towards attaining grants to continue to promote miniature Hereford breeding programs and awarding scholarships.
