Welcome to the 2016 Dalkey Lobster Fest “Lobster, Crab & All That Jazz”
in our beautiful heritage town. This year’s festival runs from Friday 26th
to Sunday 28th August. We have an amazing program of the best Jazz
and delicious Irish seafood for you to enjoy.
Enjoy great Jazz music with local and international artists. There are
fabulous restaurants, pubs and cafés where you can sample some of the
best Irish seafood in our unique relaxed Dalkey setting.
Resident businesses will be carrying out live interactive cooking demos,
using only the finest locally sourced lobster and crab and the streets
of Dalkey will be bustling with street performances and plenty of kids’
entertainment.
We are honored to partner our chosen charity this year – The Down
Syndrome Centre, which is Ireland’s only services-led centre for children
with Down Syndrome and their families.

The Dalkey Lobster Festival
is proudly supporting
The Down Syndrome Centre
The Down Syndrome Centre organisation was founded by Peter and Mary Gaw whose
two youngest children have Down syndrome. Peter and Mary faced many issues when
trying to access intervention services for their children and founded the centre so other
parents would find it easier to access these vital services.
We opened the doors of The Down Syndrome Centre in October 2014 and have since
established ourselves as a place where children with Down syndrome can thrive. To
help our service users enjoy the most fulfilling and independent lives possible we
provide intervention services such as Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language
Therapy, Social Skills courses, Physiotherapy, Parent and Baby Classes, Counselling,
Baby Massage and SKIP, an early intervention programme that prepares our service
users for mainstream school.
We also host monthly seminars for parents across Ireland which look at important areas
such as education and financial planning. Our online expert panel also provides tailored
advice and help to parents across Ireland. In the short time since we opened our doors
we have provided services to over 180 families (a figure that is growing constantly) and
have witnessed many magic moments including first steps being taken, first words
being said and lifelong friendships being forged.
Our centre, based in the Sandyford Industrial Estate, has become known as a place
where you are guaranteed a friendly welcome! In the coming months we will be
introducing many other services and programmes for our growing list of service users.
We are absolutely delighted to have been selected by the Dalkey Lobster Fest
organisers as their chosen charity again this year. We appreciate the support they show
us and are so grateful to all attendees for their generosity. You are helping children with
Down syndrome to thrive, thank you.
