NEWQUAY
The finest beaches in Europe
CORNWALL
Your Resort
Town Centre
Out & About
Newquay is Cornwall’s premier holiday resort
boasting some of the finest coastline in
Europe with no less than eleven beaches!
The town is an ancient one - the ‘new quay’
from which it takes its name dates back
to the fifteenth century, when it was known
as ‘Towan Blystra’. As well as being Britain’s
surfing capital, it offers wonderful cliff and
beach walks, a picturesque harbour and a
variety of activities including golf, squash,
tennis, putting, bowls, surfing and even
shark fishing! There are also hidden coves
and atmospheric smugglers’ pubs which are
a living reminder of the more colourful side of
Cornwall’s history.
Newquay has a good selection of both high
street and local stores. Bank Street, Newquay’s
main high street, is mostly pedestrianised,
with interesting alleyways housing little craft
and antique shops. There is also a great
variety of tea shops and cafés for a refreshing
break.

night, from its bustling harbour and marina to
its exclusive shops, sophisticated restaurants
and bars. Torquay’s spectacular modernised
waterfront provides a continental atmosphere
with its attractive cafes and shops, luxury
yachts and beautiful footbridge across the
inner harbour.
The heart of the town is the harbour which
has many shops along its edges. The town
is hilly but the location of the Regina Hotel
is on the flat harbourside and the shops,
promenade and Pavilion Theatre are all a level
walk from here.

Two miles of golden sands and a World Heritage Coast
DEVON
Your Resort
Town Centre
Out & About
Exmouth developed as a resort in Georgian
times and was once probably the most select
resort in Britain. Today it offers golden sands,
colourful gardens and a bustling harbour side.
Its two mile long promenade provides a range
of activities from boating, amusements and
crazy golf to dancing and entertainment at
the Exmouth Pavilion. There are boat trips
along the estuary and riverside pubs, as well
as a miniature railway and Country Life centre.
The coast from Exmouth to Dorset has been
officially ranked alongside the Grand Canyon
and Great Barrier Reef as one of the natural
wonders of the world.
Exmouth has good shopping with an indoor
market and a pedestrianised high street,
as well as Georgian pubs and high quality
restaurants serving a variety of local and
international dishes. The newly developed

SHANKLIN
Stunning cliff top views and sheltered sandy beaches
Your Resort
Shanklin is beautifully situated on the cliffs
bordering the South East coast of the Isle
of Wight and is sheltered to the west by
high-lying downs. The town is split with the
old village lying on the cliff top and the new
village nestled close to the sea. The two are
connected by a cliff lift.
Further afield is the island’s stunning
countryside which offers a fantastic range of
hill walks. Visit Keats Green, a section of the
coastal path where the poet Keats is supposed
to have began his epic work ‘Endymion’ with
the immortal line, ‘A thing of beauty is a joy
forever...’
Town Centre
Shanklin is a town of great character and
charm, with many interesting small shops
and a variety of Victorian architecture. The
surrounding cliffs provide an ideal suntrap
position for the seafront Esplanade, where
there is safe bathing on a sandy beach, water
sports, amusements and a host of pubs and
restaurants.
Shanklin Old Village is a perennial attraction
where most of the picturesque cottages are
clustered around the thatched Crab Inn.
Within walking distance is Shanklin’s famous
Chine, a dramatic fissure in the rock where
a 45ft waterfall cascades through boulders
and ferns to the shore. The Chine’s Heritage
Centre features an exhibition about PLUTO
- the Pipeline Under the Ocean, which was
laid to pump fuel across the Channel for the
Normandy invasion forces.
Beach & Gardens
Shanklin’s beach, which is surrounded by
cliffs and is a natural suntrap, is safe for
bathing and boasts cleanliness awards for
both its sand and waters. There are many
amusements, restaurants and pubs, as well
as water sports facilities to be found in the
immediate vicinity. Gardens in Shanklin are a
delight to visit. Tower Gardens and Rylstone
Gardens run alongside the Chine, or take a
stroll in the Big Mead, adjacent to historic
St. Blasius Church, or along the spectacular
coastal paths to Sandown or Bonchurch.

CROMER
Victorian charm amid flint cottages and unspoilt beaches
NORFOLK
Your Resort
Town Centre
Out & About
Cromer was once a small fishing village (it is
still famous for its crabs) but in the Victorian
period it was patronised by royalty and
became a distinctly upper class holiday resort.
Today, it is full of character with narrow,
twisting streets and a lovely promenade
overlooking its predominantly sandy beach.
Colourful gardens offer quiet relaxation but
if you are feeling energetic there are leisure
facilities including bowling greens, tennis
courts, squash and golf. The famous Pier
Pavilion puts on a unique summer show. The
Norfolk countryside with its leafy lanes and
flint cottages is a delight and you are never far
away from the remarkable Norfolk Broads.
The quaint narrow streets are home to
some delightfully atmospheric pubs and the
many shops sell all manner of goods, from
household items to the delicious Cromer crabs
for which the town is well known.

Britain’s oldest resort, the gem of the Yorkshire coast
NORTH YORKSHIRE
Your Resort
Town Centre
Out & About
Scarborough is arguably Britain’s oldest
seaside resort - it was a resort more than
a century before Regency Brighton. It has
two bays divided by a rugged headland on
which sit the remains of a medieval castle. The
busy harbour is home to a welter of fishing
boats and there are the usual seaside pursuits
a-plenty on the South Bay promenade which
leads to the Spa Complex, close to our hotel.
The steep hillsides are beautifully landscaped
and there are many attractive parks and
gardens. There are lots of shops, restaurants
and cafés and of course the famous Stephen
Joseph Theatre.
Scarborough offers a very wide range of
shops of all shapes and sizes. The Brunswick
Shopping Centre has a great selection of high
street names. Bar Street, a charming cobbled
area, is traffic-free and offers a selection of
smaller shops.

CRICCIETH
The Pearl of Wales on the shores of Snowdonia
Your Resort
Criccieth lies on the south coast of the Llyn
Peninsula, where the edge of Snowdonia
National Park meets the sea, with spectacular
views over Cardigan Bay. The medieval castle,
originally Welsh but later taken and reinforced
by the Normans, dominates the town. The
castle headland divides the seafront into two
with a pebbly bay to the west and a sheltered
mainly sandy bay to the east. This area of
Wales is ideal for walking, from the gentle
rolling hills of the Llyn Peninsula in the west
to the soaring majesty of Snowdonia in the
east with delightful gardens and castles at
every turn.
Criccieth railway station provides a great
way to visit Porthmadog or Pwllheli on the
Cambrian line as well as giving an easy route
to explore the world famous Ffestiniog and the
recently completed Welsh Highland Railway.
Town Centre
Criccieth has a selection of family run shops
and some good pubs and restaurants. There
is plenty of parking and some pleasant walks
around town.
Beach & Gardens
Criccieth boasts two Blue Flag beaches which
are clean and safe for families. There is a
range of watersports such as sailing and
fishing and the area is also renowned for its
spectacular sunsets. Due to its temperate
climate, the town is awash with floral colour
almost all year round.
