A wide range of fun activity and skills courses that offer
something for everyone. The two main bases are at the Arch
under Kew Bridge and at Brentford Lock. There are also indoor
sessions at Acton Pool.
Sessions are normally 2 to 3 hours in length and a clear
progression route is offered. You can book multiple sessions
(recommended) or single sessions in advance for a discounted rate or turn up on the night. Pre-booking is
recommended.

Kew Steam Museum

Steam power comes alive at London's Kew Bridge Steam Museum
Built in the 19th century to supply London with water, the museum is recognised as the most important
historic site of the water supply industry in Britain. It houses the world's largest collection of steam pumping
engines, many of which you can see working every weekend and shows how London’s water supply has
evolved from Roman times to the present day.
The Steam Hall rotative engines run on most weekends.
The Cornish Beam engines will run on July 23rd & 24th; and August 27th, 28th & 29 th. You can ride on
London's only steam railway every Sunday from April to October.
Open Tuesday – Sunday, 11.00-4.00 (but open on Bank Holiday Mondays)
Admission £9.50 adults, £3.50 children (ages 5-15). Tickets entitle the bearer to return as many times as
desired over the period of a year. Fantastic value for money!
The largest exhibition of Steampunk art, craft and engineering in the UK will be
open all summer until 29th August. The exhibition will contain over one
hundred Steampunk exhibits from all over the world, ranging from
paintings and artworks through costumes and fabrics to machines and
engines, together with sound installations and short films. Many of the
exhibits have been specially created for the exhibition and have never been
seen before. There will be a Steampunk concert, fashion show, and science
event.

other summer projects interviewing and taking photos to find out what other children think of the activities.

Circus Stars Summer Reading Challenge. The summer reading challenge is the biggest national reading
initiative for children aged 4-11 years. It runs in libraries throughout the summer holidays with incentives,

Adventure Playground
For children and young people aged 5 – 15 yrs.
This playground provides play opportunities of all types from the rope swings to art and craft activities and
sports to fire play.
Children under the age of 8 years are restricted to a visit of no longer than 2 hours without their parent or
carer nearby.
Term time: Monday – Friday 3.15-7.15 Weekends 12.00-6.00
Holidays: Monday to Friday 12.00 noon to 6.00 pm. Closed on weekends.

Chiswick House

Chiswick House is a magnificent neo-Palladian villa set in beautiful historic gardens in west London. A £12.1
million project has restored the gardens which were unveiled in June 2010. Built by the third Earl of
Burlington in 1729 to showcase his art collection and to enthral his guests, the house continues to display
many spectacular works of art and provides a stunning venue for entertaining. The gardens at Chiswick are
the birthplace of the English Landscape Movement and have inspired countless gardens including New York's
Central Park. A wonderful place to hang out and have a picnic or go to the newly built cafe.
The River Thames and Richmond Park

We have on our doorstep the River Thames with beautiful walks along the towpath, and Richmond Park, one of
London’s great wild places, with huge open spaces for kids to play and have fun exploring nature. In the park you will
find a playground by Petersham Gate, a restaurant at Pembroke Lodge which offers children’s meals and facilities for
babies, Isabella Plantation for a woodland walk, Pen Ponds for some bird watching and over 600 deer to look out for.
You can also hire bikes near Roehampton Gate. For more information look at the website and it is also well worth
checking out the Thames Landscape Strategy for information on the river, towpath walks and all the conservation work
they are doing.
Dukes Meadows

The Dukes Meadows Trust is a community conservation charity working to restore a riverside park on the
Thames at Chiswick. It has a fantastic new adventure playground designed to include the natural features of
the park and to meet the needs of older children. The Children's Water Play Area is open between the Easter
School Holidays and 30th September. To get there catch the 267 from Isleworth to Turnham Green, then take
the E3 bus and get off at Chiswick Swimming Pool. You will see the gates to Dukes Meadows on the right.

Known as the Bunny Park, Brent Lodge Park is ideal for family visits. Entrance is free and it includes an Animal
Centre and the Millenium Maize planted with 2,000 yew trees. In the Animal Centre is a small collection of
animals including goats, wallabies, 20 species of birds, prairie dogs, peacocks, monkeys and rabbits. There is
also a Butterfly House (Entry £1 adults, 50p children), playground and café.

You can also see Isleworth’s very own ‘Sew Delicious’ project which has been selected as one of the exhibits to
be on display in the Schools of Creativity Pavilion. This project was chosen as an example of all that is best
about communities in Britain 2011. T his project was created by girls and women from Isleworth involving a
partnership between The Green School, Isleworth Extended Services, Ivybridge Estate and St Mary’s Church,
Osterley, and was led by textile artist Catherine Hammerton.
