A World Record for the
Lake Washington School
District Orchestras!
On April 10, 2010, a grand
total of 392 string musicians–
from age 5 to age 65—
gathered at the Juanita HS
Field House to attempt to set
a Guinness World Record™
for, “The greatest number of
people playing the same tune
on string instruments at the
same time at a single venue”.
It was a great success!
Our Independent Witnesses
verified the world record for
Pachelbel’s Canon in D… and
our official certificates from
Guinness World Records™ are
now proudly installed at RHS
and the LWSD Resource Cen-
ter. We even have a traveling
certificate to thrill our elementary orchestra members.
String Jam ‘10 was
also a very successful fundraiser
for the LWSD Orchestra
programs, helping
us raise nearly
$7,500 to purchase instruments
and support orchestra programs.
Congratulations to
all the musicians
who participated
and thanks to our
many dedicated
volunteers who
worked long hours
behind the scenes.
We did it!

Seven Redmond High and
four Redmond Junior High
Orchestra members have
been selected by taped
audition for this year’s
All-State and All-Northwest
honor music ensembles.
These students will rehearse and perform as part
of the Washington Music
Educators Association conference in Bellevue over
Presidents Day Weekend.
Three intensive days of
rehearsal with several hundred of the finest students
studying music in the Pacific Northwest will lead to
concerts throughout the
Puget Sound, including at
Benaroya Hall.
The selected students
come from throughout the
Pacific Northwest. Gener-
ally there are over 6,000
applicants for each honor
group, which typically has
around 150 to 300 students selected for each.
Congratulations to our
honorees!

Support our Orchestras
Here are four easy ways
you can support our orchestra programs:
ONE: JOIN ESCRIP. If you
shop at Safeway, it’s easy
to donate each time you
shop. Go to
www.escrip.com and
choose Group ID #
500020230 (Redmond Region Orchestra Boosters).
Then register your Safeway
Club Card. It’s easy and
secure!
TWO: GET YOUR GIFTS
WRAPPED AT BORDERS.
RHS orchestra students will
be wrapping gifts for donations at Borders on December 12th and 15th. Stop by,
purchase some gifts, and
have our students wrap
them for you.
THREE: BUY CARAMEL
CORN. We’re selling Cosmos Caramel Corn in the
lobby this evening. Don’t
miss out!
FOUR: BUY CITRUS FRUIT. RHS
orchestra and band students
will be
selling citrus fruit in
time for
the holidays.
Watch for your student’s order
form… and then buy a box!
Poinsettias. Thanks to all those
who participated in the EJH
Poinsettia sale last month. We
appreciate your support.

Special thanks to our Scholarship Committee members who awarded a total of $3,100 in scholarships to
11 students who are participating in the orchestra
trip to Disneyland.
Many thanks to our parent volunteers, who have coordinated post-concert refreshments at all three
schools and have chaperoned at music festivals. We
depend on you!

“WOW, what IS this stuff!?”
“They just melt in your mouth…”
“Hands off! Get your own bag!”
Cosmos Caramel Corn. It’s not popcorn.
It's gourmet oven baked corn—better
because there are no hulls or kernels— tastier, too.
A huge THANK YOU to all who ordered Cosmos Caramel
Corn from RHS Orchestra students last month. Your
orders are scheduled for delivery before winter break.
For those of you who can’t wait or missed the ordering
deadline, the RROB will be selling more Cosmos Caramel
Corn at both RHS December concerts: on December 7th
and 8th.
Cosmos Caramel Corn makes a great stocking stuffer!
Take this opportunity to stock up!
