at the same time- in the same painting
• Artist’s broke down a scene/object into
geometric shapes to simplify it
• There were three different types: Facet,
Analytic, and Synthetic Cubism

What is Photo
Montage?
• Also called “Photo Collage”
• A montage is a single image/
composition that was created by
repeating many different images or
designs
Photo Montage
‣ Photo montage can be considered 2 different
styles-
• a collection of images that are related (or not) that
have been cut and pasted together or computer
edited (all images are separate-just overlapped and
placed together)
• a collection of images of the same subject matter
that either show different view points, action, or a
wider angle than possible with a single photo from a
camera (all photos make up one image like a puzzle)

Create a Photo Montage in the style of Hockney
Choose 1 of the 3 styles:
1. Panorama/360 view- Choose a location that is of interest. Crop in
close/zoom in on smaller areas of the location and slowly take
pictures that are slightly overlapping the last. Take photos up, down,
left, and right. Goal is to have a slightly distorted view of the location
that fits together like a puzzle.
2. Cubist style- Choose an object or person of interest and take
photos that are close up/zoom in on detail. Take from above, below,
left, right, closer, and farther away. Take more picture than you need so
you have options on how to piece the montage together. The goal is
to create a broken, very distorted view of the object.
3. Blurred Motion- Choose an object that can show
movement. Take 3 sets of photos that are close up on detail of
the object at three different times during its movement. Piece
the photos together so that the object looks blurred and in
motion.
*Use anywhere from as few as 12 photos to a max of 25 photos
to create any of the three styles.
*Too few photos will take away from the montage look and too
many will take to long to piece together.
*Use Adobe Photoshop layers to move your “puzzle pieces”
around until you get the look you are going for.
* Once the image is complete and you are happy, flatten the
image and save as a .jpeg. Upload to School Fusion.
* When taking photos, be sure that you are taking only a section
or zooming in a small are of the scene or object. If each picture
has a wide angle view, the overlapping will be to much and the
montage will be less interesting.
The image will be graded on:
*Craftsmanship of photos and computer editing
*Effectiveness of the montage style
*Creativity - Uniqueness of design
